- What tequilas should you drink? Here are some example of brands that most people think are Mexican owned but aren’t anymore. Yes, I know El Tesoro is part of Beam Suntory now, but it’s one of the best examples of how a big brand can partner with a great family and not change production. Don’t get me wrong either, I love supporting Mexican owned brands, especially family owned brands. But there are some amazing brands that aren’t Mexican owned as well.

Brands I recommended were
Caballito Cerrero
El Tesoro
Lalo
Fortaleza

Salucita 🥂.

What are the "additives" you refer to that are in Don Julio and the like?
The four main categories of additives used in tequila are oak extract, glycerin, caramel coloring, and sugar based syrup. The CRT allows them to use up to 1% additives and still claim to be 100% agave, so some brands don't consider them to be additives but "abocantes" as long as they stay under the allowed amount.
One of these days I’ll find a bottle of Fortaleza…Have you covered lebron james tequila?
I can spoiler without knowing or hearing anything about it... it is going to be garbonzo
I found a good comment in regards of "his" tequila, that I will simply add here:
"It’s just not worth the price points. Lebron’s name makes it more expensive
That’s not ok. What should make it more expensive is the process.
In closing. You can find better made tequila for cheaper"
Just keep looking. Eventually you’ll get to buy a bottle of Fortaleza even at or near MSRP ($50-$60 bucks for the blanco) when you do find it. It’s delicious, but not worth the $200-$300 pricing, or for way more, some places offer it for.
