I am writing a children's picture book and the main characters are alligators. I have watched a number of your videos to gain a better understanding of these amazing creatures. Thank you for helping me develop better more realistic characters.
Regards from Serbia ❤ Yes in Belgrade zoo we have alligator Muja ❤ Muja (Serbian Cyrillic: Муја; pronounced MOO-ya)[1] (hatched 1937) is an American alligator living in the Belgrade Zoo and is the oldest known alligator in captivity. Having arrived at the zoo in 1937, Muja has lived through both the Axis and Allied bombings of Belgrade during World War II, as well as the NATO bombing of Yugoslavia in 1999.
Hi Chris, I love your videos! I know we all love Casper, but I'd be interested in a video about female alligators, specifically mama gators! What time of year do they lay eggs, what's common behavior for a mama gator, and how long do the babies stay with their mother? And, will a mama gator ever eat her babies like other species do? Thank you for the great videos, and for keeping us all educated on these incredible animals! 😊
"Hitler's alligator" Saturn, is such a sad story. After the war he was sent to Russia and reportedly suffered from PTSD from the war. As always, love your interactions with Casper!
Well, no. It was 4 months in 1990 when he stopped eating because of the move into a new aquarium. (And btw: Hitler never even saw that animal ... he was just an ordinary zoo-animal)
Oh..and the gator named Pops at Gatorland has been there since they opened in the 1940’s. The oldest one in the park that they know of. I have a desert tortoise and I always say “approximately” when I guess her age…. As usual, Casper is a very pretty alligator ☺️🥰
I love that you acknowledge anecdotal and empirical evidence as being as valid, if less weighty, as documented evidence. Discarding pre-'method' evidence is actually very unscientific in the way it curtails the growth of knowledge. The people who dismiss this information out of hand are laudably trying to be logical but failing to be scientific. I only just discovered your channel, but already love it.
Thanks for always coming in with the educational videos man! I live in Beaumont, Texas and there’s a reptile zoo/alligator farm here with a “Legendary” 92 year old alligator named Big Al, who supposedly is the largest alligator in captivity in the State of Texas at over 13 feet. This makes me wonder if he’s actually that old or not!
Chris, your videos are so interesting. I could listen to you talk about crocodilians all day. I agree with you about trophy hunters. They are disgusting. For some reason they think they must kill all predators. And it doesn’t make them look like a big strong man. It makes them look pathetic. I have a question. When you run your hand along Casper’s back, what does the skin feel like. I know they have those bony plates but curious about the skin around them. Please hug Casper for me. He is just so adorable. Love from Tennessee. 🐊
I would love to go gator watching with you and your lady up here in Mississippi. I've been watching you for a while. A HUGE HUGE CONGRATULATIONS for everything you've accomplished in these few years, AND HAPPY late BIRTHDAY TO YOU!!
I recently discovered your RUclips channel and have been captivated by your content! It's truly remarkable. I had a question regarding zoos. Could you share your favorite zoo you've ever visited? Also, I'd love to know your current perspective on Zoo Miami. My family and I have just become Zoo Miami members. I appreciate the incredible effort you put into your work with these animals. It's genuinely inspiring!
There’s this guy named Masaru who’s a spear fisherman in Japan that has a RUclips channel, and a guy he knew had a gator for 20 years. When the guy moved, the licensing for gators changed in Japan, so he had to euthanize the gator. It was 12’ long and looked pretty healthy (maybe the bottom jaw was a little short? Not sure); Masaru skinned, cut up for meat, and stuffed the head for the guy. It was pretty interesting to watch. So they can get pretty big even in 20 years in captivity, but I’d imagine they need whole prey and a good enclosure with access to sunlight. I’d imagine wild alligators might have a hard time getting all the food they need especially during certain years due to weather or even natural disasters.
Do you have a. Video explaining how you got Casper or how long you personally have known him. Ans how is he so well trained and calm around people?? Btw love your videos ❤
Not sure where to ask this question and maybe you’ve answered it in previous videos… how can you tell if an alligator is male or female? Do you have a video on how alligators mate and then give birth. Love your videos!
This made me laugh. "We don't know how old Casper is. We can say he's 50 years old, we can say he's 120 years old". Casper then comes up close to the camera, with his mouth open slightly. I thought he was going to whisper, "Actually I'll tell you how old I am" lol.
That is a great topic. Indeed, with studies that commenced only about 50 years ago, some myths were busted i.e. growing throughout their lives. I've seen some big ones (about 14 ft.) in the South Carolina swamps. I was well-protected from them and at a distance. Yes, some have said that these creatures can live 150+ years, but it can be attributed to only folklore. The truth of the matter is, up until a few decades ago, no one cared about these animals. They were considered "worthless varmints" infesting the southern swamps.
You have found your passion you are meant to do! How can we in the public support your new place in Ocala to teach about alligators? I am close in …The Villages 😉
I know Casper has no personal feelings towards you, but I really am interested in knowing if you didn’t visit him anymore how his behavior would change when he would notice you again like say a 5 year span or so.
Are there any factors that allow you to differentiate a younger gator versus one that may be nearing the end of its life? Not so much in physical characteristics maybe, but is there any behaviors that they exhibit that would allow you to tell them apart?
A lot of guides are educated by other guides and their dads and so on. They don’t know they don’t know, and don’t research. They just operate on faith of the “oral traditions.” and assume the science falls in line, and no one corrects them. Not their fault, but definitely misinforming. Thank you for your approach. Ive been loving this the last few weeks. Like I went from Shark Week to Gator Days 😂
Sorry I'm late I didn't get the notification I usually do tho so I don't know what happen. But anyway great vlog and I hope you and gabby have a fantastic Sunday
The depressing part is how *we* are the apex predator in all ecosystems because of technology. We've killed the largest crocodilians and big cats just because we could.
Hi Chris.. yes Casper doenst love you, I doubt even my dog loves me, but it likes to be hug, caressed, brushed.. does Casper love it too, or it doesnt care?
Is excessive feeding in captivity the reasoning for the heads being short and fat? Was thinking it could potentially be because their bodies are growing faster than their heads? Probably a stupid question. Sorry I’m advance
Such a great video, very good way of explainign things. But I was wondering about this captive held alligator who was undersized and couldn't open his mouth. Is it possible to improve such animal's health in any way, I am sure there is less stress for the animal now than it was before, but besides that, for an example the mouth opening lenght, is it possible to improve that?
This is the kind of info you dont get from the documentaries.... they just go for the shots of gators hunting which is amazing to see but its nice to get in depth subjects that go beyond their predatory ways.
at least 6 years 😂😂. we can really only make educated guesses by looking at the enviroment they come from and how rough they look. and usually when they are really old there are some signs, but nothing that can make anyone close to precise. its really just not reliable enough to try to make an estimate.
I can't imagine correctly how hard their skin must be. I have to wonder if they can really feel being touched? Especially since their tolerance to pain is so high?
What do you think about Gustave the Crocodile in Afrika that has killed more than 300 people and shoot be more than 100 years old and around a 1500 kilo , 7 meter long ? Greetings from the Netherlands 👍
You could probably make an entire new branch of science just actually investigating what native ppl know. Like that's not even cryptozoology bc 1) it's a broad category and 2) science really didn't take those claims seriously before, so there really hasn't been any research. But we've seen things like the history of the Franklin artic expedition, or even the coastline of Australia forming being known by natives and recently recorded by science.
Hear me out on this one. Obviously Casper would eat Chris. However, it's possible that action would induce some level of stress in Casper. Seeing how its Chris who feeds him often and Chris goes into the water with him after he feeds. I believe this routine for such a long time if broken would induce stress in Casper, but I could be wrong. Consider this scenario. If you had a big fake tree log in that enclosure, and half of it was in the water the other half stuck out and it was something Casper was always around for years, if you suddenly removed the log would he would feel uncomfortable and stressed that his environment has changed?
That gator is so fake, just look at his eyes and that ocean water! Hes just so fake. Oops i meant to say he loves you ,i can tell by the way he looks into your eyes. I mean one of these days, if you keep playing with fire your gonna get burned. Haha i just waisted that much time writing nonsense that you have to deal with all the time. God i must be bored. But for real. I love all your vidoes and enjoy listening to you as i love gators and many reptiles and just animals in general. Im a big animal person. Thanks for the continued education. ❤️ 🐊
@Brisingam animals DO NOT have the capacity to care about you or your well being at all. Including dogs and especially alligators. Have you seen chris video on this? He did a whole 20 min video on why Casper does in fact NOT love him.
This man is singlehandedly getting me invested in crocodiles more and more. They are such beautiful animals. I love what you're doing, keep it up man!
its an alligator
Gator bro
Thats a alligator
invested in it and you dont even know its an alligator and not a crocodile... you call that being invested!?
It’s a gator
I am writing a children's picture book and the main characters are alligators. I have watched a number of your videos to gain a better understanding of these amazing creatures. Thank you for helping me develop better more realistic characters.
Casper looks like he loves being on video. He will be signing autographs next 🐊😉

7:50 when Chris is talking about how stress can shorten a gator's lifespan it looks like Casper is nodding 😂
Thanks for always coming in with the educational videos man! I love that it is 20 minutes, just to show that there is no way to prove how old he is😂❤️! Love all your videos!

What about maybe doing a video describing some of the differences btwn alligators and crocodiles. That would be interesting. I've always wondered
Not sure where to ask this question and maybe you’ve answered it in previous videos… how can you tell if an alligator is male or female? Do you have a video on how alligators mate and then give birth. Love your videos!

He is onto you, he sees no treats then he is getting slower coming back to you 😂
Casper talking 🐊 “Not sure about you Chris, I’m in my primeeee!!” Lol

Old? It doesn't get old watching this guy literally risk his life in every minute of every video. A smart, brave guy with even bigger gonads.
Are there any factors that allow you to differentiate a younger gator versus one that may be nearing the end of its life? Not so much in physical characteristics maybe, but is there any behaviors that they exhibit that would allow you to tell them apart?
Great question. I am also interested in the answer

i aprecciate your honesty chris
All of a sudden, I have found myself subscribing to an Alligator channel .. and I am here for it 👌🏻
Sorry I'm late I didn't get the notification I usually do tho so I don't know what happen. But anyway great vlog and I hope you and gabby have a fantastic Sunday
Super interesting!
Another great video. Any reason why we don't see your left hand on the video?
awesome vid!!
Just ask Casper how old he is, I’m sure he’ll be honest with you
Only you should keep them as pets sense you actually study gators and know there diets
trophy hunting is very sad and it's usually unfair. i know people who do canned hunting for bear. they leave food and wait for them to show up.
Casper is an old soul. Thank you, Chris!
This guy is swimming with killing machines, I hope your channel skyrockets
10:42 all that hand waving is making me nervous man XD
Sooooo interesting. Thanks!
Do alligators grow continuously in optimal conditions?
Look at the size of the eyeball on that gator. I wouldn't want them eyeballs on me!
Is saw bigger now? And are her teeth ok?
He’s do cute 💜
Do you ever show videos of how you start the initial training of alligators
Hope one day we can go and watch Casper swing 🐊 greetings fron México 🇲🇽 ❤

Interesting information as usual 🐊
Did Casper hate Drones.
these seeds he's munching must be making him high lol. Btw, can aligators taste sweet/sugar?
I thought alligators though were back in the dinosaur days
Could Casper be actually stressed right now with all filming and interactions with you?
What do you think about Gustave the Crocodile in Afrika that has killed more than 300 people and shoot be more than 100 years old and around a 1500 kilo , 7 meter long ? Greetings from the Netherlands 👍
Casper looks like he’s 3 years old 🤗 Really sad about the other rescued gator 😢
He keeps saying the entire video there is no way to tell... not to mention he's been working with Casper over 10 years.
I am currently in Missouri and still don't understand how these great lizards from down home are all the way up here
16:06 Gottem!
Casper is 48 years old. His aura told me so.
I'm always asking you on Instagram how old they can live so thanks for answering lol
Does size of the alligators influence life span like it does with other reptiles?
He's still a baby on front of you 🤗💕
I have seen gators reaching up to 18-20 feet long
IS IT THE SPECIES THEY KNOW? OR IS IT THAT EXACT ALLIGATOR THEY KNOW, ANY IDENTIFYING MARKS THAT MAKE IT THE ONE THEY KNOW
Epigenetic age is a way to tell
i think he is 4k years old!
I want one

You should trash zoos. They're just prison for animals that never committed a crime.
Casper needs a girlfriend so he won't be lonely & he can have babies with her.
People in the comments..STOP saying that Casper "loves" chris...they do not feel love and affection, most animals in fact don't.
Just because someone doesn't love you the way you want them to, doesn't mean they don't love you with all they have.
@Brisingam animals DO NOT have the capacity to care about you or your well being at all. Including dogs and especially alligators. Have you seen chris video on this? He did a whole 20 min video on why Casper does in fact NOT love him.
