Great drumming.....Classic... this tune is groovy and the toughest part is the KICK its the simplest but complicated,(3 run pattern) a song that you have to play in the pocket otherwise the dynamics will hurt the groove. I think a few snare dynamics, some Hi-Hat slides and some slight breaks is the best IMO. One of them tunes where the Piano and the lyricist must do all the work. Thank you so much Erik for this thoughtful positive feedback! You hit the nail on the head - the kick was indeed the hardest part of getting this right. Every hit in the pattern is different: the first is slightly quieter, the second is right on the beat, and third is the same volume as the second but is slightly behind the beat. The hihat also has to have a constant upbeat accent while its closed to get the groove to have the right lift and forward momentum to get it all to come together.
