Hello Bill. Don't forget to fit the armature top bearing lock nut onto the armature. You can then run it onto the bearing and lock it up.(it is in your clear plastic box!) Regards Ray

    Good progress.
If the handrails are like the Tri-ang ones it can be be removed and buffed up with steel wool rather than sandpaper.

Hi Bill, this service is coming along nicely , shame you have had to order new parts but they hopefully will give this old girl a new lease of life !!
Looking forward to the next installment when hopefully she will be up and running again ..your videos are always an inspiration and joy to watch.

These old girls are a joy to work on.
I often just strip one and give it a full service just because I can.
They are very good for my head.
Sometimes the later super detail ones are more likely to do my head in. 😂

You are a stickler for perfection when it comes to the mechanical and that bodes well for you. I do think I would have squeezed the brush casing at the entrance ever so slightly to accommodate the present brush plug but that's me. Great part 2, Jersey Bill

Hadn't come across the tin foil cleaning method before - I've tended to use a fibreglass brush but may try it in future. HD handrails always looked oversized to me and if a loco is missing them I usually replace them with brass handrail knobs and brass wire - it might need some filler and a bit of paint but the overall look is worth it (to me, at least). Keep up the good work!

Oh well things never go to a plan; good find though. The Golden Fleece will be all the better for new pickups, looking forward to part 3 now; lol. This plus all the other repairs/ services you do off camera what time is left for the scenery… all best Marc from Leighton Buzzard

Hi Bill. Coincidentally that you are doing this model. I have just bought a near mint one of these. Just waiting for it to be delivered.

Sounds daft I know, but I've used "Pledge" spray furniture polish and kitchen roll on painted loco bodies and it actually improves them.

I use ‘Pledge’ too! Found this tip in The ‘Grebe Bible’ on Hornby Dublo. Apply polish carefully. Great on all Hornby tinplate models. T🚂

Bill you could just have left it for the weathered look.

Bill, you mentioned rivets and valve gear in the first part and wondered how to go about it. If you look up Tony Wright’s videos on locomotive building on RUclips he has a chapter on it, search “ Loco Kit Building Part 20 - Making the Valve Gear “. He has built more locos than you and I have had hot dinners and he still dislikes building valve gear but there are some ideas here to try out.

Unless you leave her dull, as if an old, hard working freight loco, what about giving her a coat of ' Clear Coat' ?
