    Hey Joseph !! Myself from India, I am a practicing Brahmachari, and the book is none other than Srimad Bhagavad Gita, which is holy book of Hindus which is similar to "Bible" for Christians and "Krishna" is like eternal and most profound god for Hindus, just like Jesus Christ, it is in his own words that this book is written, I highly encourage you to read through it as there is lot of mystical and mysterious information in it with regards to human existence, life and mind, it's like a "life manual" not only for Hindus, but for every person who wants to know his existence on this planet and whatever problems each and everyone of us faces is all clearly mentioned in Gita as a solution.... I highly encourage you to give it a read, it will highly awaken your inner spirits and also enlighten you... Hare Krishna🙏🙏

      It also mentions a lot about principles of modern science like Newton's 3rd law, multiverse and also some of atomic physics principles, scientists from all round the world seek it's knowledge and use it's reference for their research... Many scientists like Einstein and Oppenheimer have famously quoted Bhagavadgita for their findings in case of Theory of Relativity and also Nuclear bomb testing respectively.....

    I agree with you when you said "If living within western cultures this isn't feasible.". However, coming from a man on a strong retention journey, we can still commit to celibacy. It has its moments, tests me daily, whenever a lustful thought comes through I say "cancel" within my mind, a technique I learnt from a teacher. It works. I've also heard a technique of seeing every woman as your sister and that way you overcome the lustful thought patterns. You've helped pave the way for many along the path, I'm grateful for all the years you've dedicated to help the collective. Appreciation. #RetainTrain 🚆⚡⚡

    I’ve just embarked on this journey of SR or celibacy not very long ago. The lifestyle of the bramachrya,(sorry for the misspelling) is something that I have been interested in deeply lately. I’m from the US where almost everything is sexualized and I’m tempted on a daily basis. To not engage with or engage in sexual activity is a daunting task in itself, but to not even think about it is another. I am very passionate about reaching spiritual enlightenment and I feel SR along with meditation and prayer will get me there. I’m currently reading the coiled Serpant with has been aiding me on my journey but a part of me thinks I’m a failure because I’ve got a son, and although I love him more than words can explain, I find myself thinking how can I completely devote myself to this lifestyle being a devotee of God while still being there for my son.

      The world needs good fathers, and your son certainly needs you as such. I wholeheartedly endorse lasting semen retention/celibacy for those of us who feel called to it. I see no reason why either your existing fatherhood or your celibacy going forward should preclude the practice of the other. Neither is any excuse to ignore the other. God can bless you through both.

    You don’t get let in unless you have full surrender to the process not withstanding full faith in God. One aspect of its discipline is rejecting everything that can distract from this full surrender that being inappropriate association with people technology etc that is not conducive to higher spiritual realisation and that would mean no social interaction unless with like minded people or continue in your solitude in seclusion. This is not for a season but a lifetime. There is no going back from this.

    5:00 since you called for a brahmachari, here's this tamil Brahmin brahmachari reporting for duty.
    The meaning of brahmacharya is actually exactly as Swami Sila Bhakti-vedanta Prabhu-phada mentioned it (yes his name is a mouthful). It means total abstinence as the definition you mentioned. You cannot remain a brahmachari and indulge in sex or even consider sex. Does it mean you can't attain enlightenment if you are a grihastha/householder? I believe it's theoretically possible according to Ramana Maharshi if you can practice self enquiry with discipline, but others liken brahmacharya to being the runway on which your aeroplane seeks to take off. It's just way easier if you have the runway built for use. In fact Swami Vivekananda said that a man who practiced absolute brahmacharya for 12 years becomes an Oordhvaretta, a living embodiment of God. Even hearing one of the Mahavakyas (great sayings from the scriptures) once in such a state as great as that will instantly lead to enlightenment. Another benefit is you will develop a certain Nadi (nerve carrying electrical signals) which will give you the power to learn information at a superhuman speed and retain it at a photographic level. Swami Vivekananda himself was such a being and there were many second hand accounts of his incredible faculties.

    I must say, I disagree with Brahmacharya on the point of distancing one's self from women and marriage. While this may be exactly what some souls need for their evolution, this idea of renouncing sex and women cuts one off from being able to engage in The Perfect Matrimony, as described by Samael Aun Weor. This is the act of sex, without lust and without orgasm, for the ultimate awakening of divinity, the Christ, within the individual. Brahmacharya may indeed be a precursor stage in the soul's evolution before one is able to eradicate lust, but to stop there, and never go farther is a grave mistake in my opinion.
    But I don't have the answers. These ideas are still merely theoretical to me. I have not fully eradicated lust from my psyche. I am still very much an aspirant.

    • @abhinavkumar547
      @abhinavkumar547 10 месяцев назад +1

      Brahm means supreme power ie., God and acharya means to act so, Brahmacharya means to act , to behave, to keep your thoughts always like a God and always keep your mind in remembrance of God whether directly or indirectly while doing your all the worldly duties and chores. Since God is perfect and has no evil qualities, Brahmacharya encourages the person to get rid of all the evil natures of mind that are lust, anger, greed, arrogance etc. Retaining the semen is just one small aspect, the concept of Brahmacharya is very broad. U got it wrong, the sages of Vedic Sanatan culture didn't encourage people to remain in Brahmacharya throughout their lives but we had 4 stages in which human life was divided called ashram systems . The first stage which is called Brahmacharya ashram started from 1-25 years of age where as a young child, teenager and growing young man, people had to focus on their education neglecting all the worldly pleasures like sex, women and other bad things that are distracting in path of education and career. Once a person used to settle in his career the next stage started which was called grihastha ashram which lasted from 26-50 years. Here person get married and start his family life. The next stage was called vanprastha from 51-75 where people used to get retired from their occupation and start their own self realisation in the form of self study and all other things that help a person. The final stage comes at 76 years of age and lasts till 100 years where person renounce the materialistic life and start doing things that would help him in salvation. The average human life at that time was around 100 years so these 4 stages of human life were divided in 25 years each. Most of the great sages of Sanatan Vedic Hindu culture were married and ran family and still attained salvation. Off course then there were some who decided to remain celibate throughout their life to attain God. But that was completely an individual's choice.
      Brahmacharya is not a precurser stage but the ultimate stage as it requires the highest state of consciousness and actions done by humans.
      One of the very effective way to live the human life at fullest was described by Lord Krishna to warrior Arjuna on the battleground of Kurukshetra war 5,000 years ago in the form of Gita, was that enjoy all the worldly pleasures there is to enjoy whether it is money, women, sex and do all the duties and jobs that u r given in this life and while doing all these things keep yourself detached internally from these materialistic things. In this way, u would not only be able to live the life like normal person do but also escape from the laws of karma which suggests that for every action that has been done by u whether good or bad would come back to u whether in this life or another life.

      @@abhinavkumar547Very interesting, thank you for sharing! Certainly, as a westerner that is news to me. Perhaps I worded my original comment poorly, let me elaborate.
      The book I read on this subject was "Practice of Brahmacharya by Swami Sivananda", and that book specifically is what I disagreed with, in regards to never marrying.
      My impression of Swami's teaching was that one should not marry, and should distance one's self from women entirely. Perhaps this was a translation error, or I simply lack vital context, reading from a western perspective. The additional details you have provided certainly paint a very different picture of the meaning of brahmacharya compared to how I interpreted it being presented in the book.

    • @abhinavkumar547
      @abhinavkumar547 10 месяцев назад +1

      @@lumarious Swami Sivananda is himself a lifelong Brahmachari ( the follower of Brahmacharya) therefore his book focuses on the importance of Brahmacharya and how to do it strictly. The other aspect of human stages is not written by him because the purpose of his book is to impart knowledge about Brahmacharya only. The actual context of Swami ji's teaching is if u have decided to follow the path of Brahmacharya, u need to make sure that u do it wholeheartedly without any distractions in this path. If someone is really in this journey then he needs to practice it in its original and purest form and in order to successfully do it, your mind needs to get rid of lustful thoughts. It is a biological nature that if a man sees a beautiful woman, his mind automatically starts wandering in the negative direction which breaks the rule of Brahmacharya. This is why he recommended to stay away from women for those who are really in this path. Of course if one follows Brahmacharya, he do not need to do it lifetime but whatever time period he has choosen, he needs to make sure to follow all the rules that are not only eradicating the lust but also be mindful about your temper ( anger) , pride, arrogance, affection and greed which are all evil natures of mind. Offcourse if the practice of Brahmacharya is so strict then its rewards are as fruitful. I will touch upon some of the benefits of it later. If u look at the history of mankind, majority of great and successful men who were philosophers, thinkers, great scientists, sages, prophets, avatars etc. all have done the practice of Brahmacharya whether knowingly or unknowingly in their lives. Some like scientists, philosophers, artists, painters, musicians, philosophers etc. have mostly control their lustful nature of mind and transmute it in their works which led them to great heights in their respective fields. Avatars, Prophets, Sages who were all divinly blessed went a step further and became mindful of all the evil nature of their minds like u do in Brahmacharya. No matter which faith and religion u follow, every holy men in every religions have done Brahmacharya even if it was for a definitely time period. One of the benefits of Brahmacharya is long life,luster and vigor.Swami Sivananda is over 100 years old and if u look at him he appears much younger than his age and is very flexible in his body. Ancient sages used to live over 100 years in India thanks to the power of Brahmacharya.
      Here there r still sages who are over 200-300 years of age and live secretly in in Himalyas which is the region of world's biggest mysteries in itself. Great spiritual master Swami Vivekanand told the world that if a person successfully is able to do Brahmacharya for 12 consecutive years, he develops a nerve in his body which is called medha nadi ( nadi means nerve) and as a result attain the superhuman intelligence and photographic memory. Have u heard about the term quantum speed reading? After strictly practicing Brahmacharya, a person gets the ability of quantum speed reading. Swami Vivekanand himself had that power in which if he touches any book, he would instantly know everything that is written in the book no matter how many pages that book has or in which language it is written. When he was in Europe, he was invited by one of his European friend to come to his house,who was if i remember correctly German and was probably scientist. Swami Vivekanand saw many large and thick books on the shelf of his friend's house. He asked his German friend to show him one of the book which was very thick to which his German friend started laughing and said that it is written in German and that Swami ji would not be able to understand the language. Vivekanand ji repeated him to show the book as he wanted to read it so he gave him that book. Swami ji touched the book in between his palms and without opening a single page of the book returned it back to his friend. His friend asked why in the first place did he asked that book to read as without reading any chapters of it, he returned it back. Swami ji told him that he has already read the whole book and remember each and every word written in each page. His friend didn't believe him and asked him to tell some of the things and also ask the page no. for it. To his absolute shock, Swami Vivekanand answered all his questions and told the exact page no. in which they were written.

    Buddy I m an Indian and Gita and its narrator Lord Krishna Chandra is our beloved god. But even it is difficult for us in modern era to completely do "Brahmacharya" and this is because in eastern countries like India the Western hedonistic culture is coming at pace. All the biggest cities here have hookup cultures and slowly it is coming in other cities as well. It is degrading out culture and i find it saddening that western people like u have started realising its importance and want to learn more the wisdom India has to offer but on the other hand our own people are running to the degenerated hedonistic culture of west.

    Brahmacharya in the strictly Vedic sense is impossible in the modern West, so a sort of behavioral brahmacharya has to do. Christians often say that we are "in the world, but not of the world." That is a catch phrase devised from part of a prayer of Jesus on the eve of His crucifixion (specifically John 17 : 15-16), not for God to take His followers OUT of the world, but to keep them from evil, for they are not OF the world. This is the celibacy that God expects until marriage and that some of us have embraced for life. I know a Christian man from the Indian state of Sikkim who is committed to lifetime celibacy/semen retention and who calls it "brahmacharya" in his native Nepali and when he speaks Hindi.

      Hey buddy if u want Joseph to not talk about Isckonian philosophy, which is fine because I too don't believe how they portray their ideologies, but tell him to read the Gita of Gitapress Gorakhpur which is the most authentic source of translation of Gita. The Isckon's Gita has many different translations of sanskrit verses which don't match with other versions of Gita and which clearly proves that they are selling their own ideologies. While Lord Krishna is one of the manifestations of the supreme power God, he is not the only manifestation but there were many avatars throughout the history who all posessed the powers of God. But one thing here is that Lord Krishna posessed the complete powers of God ie. he was the owner of all 16 kalas whereas others have comparatively lesser kalas ( powers) .

    Complete lifelong celibacy isn't required for high levels of transmutation. Although of course periods of complete celibacy that is accompanied by intensive training are necessary for development of cultivating.
    Also to put in another perspective with lifelong celibacy vows; the reality is the majority of these people will not even attain high level of cultivation even if they adhere strictly.
    There are high level 'masters' or cultivators in modern times that have surpassed most Bhramacarya or Monk vow takers in levels of transmutations and where able to raise families.
    Why? Because it comes down to methodology. Or simply it comes down to results of the training. If the practice works, and If the momentum of transmuting is greater than "leaking" then mindfully engaging in sexually activities in a healthy way shouldn't be an issue.
