Thank you Chris Olka, for your statement in support of Ukraine 💛💙. The performance of the anthem on the tuba was wonderful and the tuba in your performance sounds good))) I'm your fan from Ukraine)
The right music at the right time by the right musician with the right equipment, BRAVO! I look forward to adding the EBB825 to my holdings, too. Please keep up the great videos.
Ever since I heard your review of the modified 562, I have been contemplating a switch back to BBb. This video makes that decision even more tempting. Fantastic job on what is now my 2nd favorite national anthem!
A few years ago I taught in Finland for a week and a number of the players used BBb 5/4-6/4 rotary tubas. They sounded fantastic. Since then I’ve been wanting one in my “stable” of tubas for the orchestra. This model is definitely going to be the one!
@@cheers623 I unfortunately am only able to play in a very tiny, acoustically dead room 95% of the time I play, so I always wonder how I sound in a concert hall!
When I started working with Eastman on this tuba, we compared the 562 and 623. The 562 had more color in the sound and was easier to control and play. That is the basis for the 825.
@@cheers623 thanks I’m a junior in high school and I’m looking to buy my own horn and I like the sound of c tuba better (generally speaking) but I’m used to Bb
To be clear, I don't mean to impugn your integrity on that point. I am sure that tuba is wonderful. I own two Eastmans, the 632 and a sousaphone that I do almost all my gigging on, the new EPH 495. They are both amazing horns--the best I've ever played. But I've heard you play Siegfried's Rheinfahrt and the way those low Ebs popped out on the Yamaha was unbelievable. I've only heard one other person do that--Warren Deck. I heard him teaching a lesson in the bowels of Lincoln Center back when I was a student at Manhattan School of Music in the 80s playing the Fountains of Rome. It was enough to make you just pack up the tuba for good. At any rate, your playing is incredible and inspirational.
@@disamis6873 I'm not sure if there are any of him playing alone. You can pick up any New York Philharmonic recording from 1979 to 2001 and hear him play. He was a force of nature. But Mr. Olka is also amazing.

Great sound, congrats teacher !!
Thank you ☺️
Bravo sir!
That is an incredibly massive sound on that BBb tuba, was not expecting that! I’m glad youre back on RUclips 👌
I need to get into a large room with it. It totally overwhelms my basement!

Tremendous playing from you Chris!!
Thanks for the kind words!
Sounds great, Chris!
Thanks Tony!
Sounds awesome
Thanks buddy!
This is such a cool video!
Glad you enjoy it!
Looking forward to it!
May be a few weeks, but looking forward to doing it!
Thank you brother)

great!!
Thank you!
FAT, The color of this instrument is impressive😯. Hope to see you in the near future🤞🏾
It makes a HUGE tone!
Wow!
It’s the tuba!
Thank you very much 🇺🇦❤️🇺🇲
Can you show us how to use the tuning slide and make it faster/ smoother
There’s a few low notes in there 😆 sounds great Chris
Thanks buddy
Hello! What mouthpiece are you using?
@Chris Olka I saw your reply to what the song is. Any sheet music for that? Sounds fun to play.
I just googled it and found many versions. This one is in D Minor.
Can you do a mouthpiece review and explain stuff about them
That’s something I hadn’t thought of. I might do that 🤔
Could you tell the difference (in timbre especially) between ebb825 and ebb623? 623's bore is even larger than 825.
Pray for Ukrainians...

So this is the large handmade BBb that evolved from the 5v 562?
Yes
That looks like a tuba, only smaller!
It’s the little brother of your tuba, Ari-Pekka!
@@cheers623 and we do love little brothers too. Sounds like valid horn
What copy? Looks like Hagen 496 (5/4 version).
It is based on an older German design, but with a larger bell, 5 valves, and handmade.
Do you recommend a Bb or c tuba for a college level musician
With the number of great choices in either key…both!!!
I agree.
@@cheers623 thanks I’m a junior in high school and I’m looking to buy my own horn and I like the sound of c tuba better (generally speaking) but I’m used to Bb
How does it do with false tones?
Haven’t had time to really try much yet.
Any plans on a 6/4 BBb piston yet? :)
Already working on it!
@@cheers623 do you have any news on this? Before I settle with a 5/4 and regret not waiting a little longer?
@@Ruigekerel I do not see any chance of a 6/4 Piston model coming out any time soon.
@@cheers623 that is unfortunately. Thanks for the info!
Have you ever played on a British bb bass?
I have, but very little. Would love to try the Wessex Leviathan
@@cheers623 me too! Things a beast
What etude is this?
Ukrainian national anthem. 🙏
@@cheers623 Awesome!!!
6/4?
Sounds awesome by the way! Great low register!
Bigger than a Fafner…smaller than a Hagen…
Did the sheet brass/ gold brass make it into the final version?
What do you think about the EBB24?
I haven’t heard of that model?

I've been wanting a good BBb for some time. Seems like this horn might be what I'm searching for
One of the best I’ve played!
Who in the hell plays low Ds like that? My God!
It’s the tuba, not the player! This thing has a fantastic low end!
