    "They were the first American-built locomotives to be introduced in Britain" The Midland Railway used USA built locos in the 1900s, potentially there was something even before that.
    "They were the first private-owner locomotives that British Rail allowed to be used on the mainline" A certain Gresley A4.

      The 59's were in many ways a derivative of the NSW 81 class engine which was considered in the early 80's to be the reference SD40-2 derivative outside North America

    Nice but the Dapol ones are nice too.

      But Dapol's track record in N gauge has been a bit patchy - funny shaped 142s and 50s. On their performance to date, i think I trust Revolution to do a proper job. Nice to have some proper competition too.

    how many 59s and 66s do we want from every manufacturer ,why not try something new like electric loco 20003 of 1948 ?

      There’s never been a ready to run 59 in N other than the CJM model which is no longer in production,
