    I am interested in possibly moving there, but I am doing my homework first and will visit there first as well. I am also learning the kichwa they speak in the rural areas and plan on learning Spanish too. Moving to another country is a major decision and should not be taken with your eyes closed. I have friends who live there and have seen the country through their eyes and fallen in love with the country and culture, but I would not just move there without having checked it out thoroughly and see if it is a fit for me.

      My friends live in Otavalo on San Pablo, beautiful area. They posted videos and pictures during the last paro. Provisions for assuring runa lands are not entered for mining are among the items they want the government to agree to and are part of the items they requested in order to end the paro. It remains to be seen if the government honors that agreement. I also get the news online, so I have some idea of what is going on in the country. I have been studying kichwa for the past 2 1/2 years and plan on going to Otavalo next year. I love the language and culture.

    Hi, thanks for this. Just wanted to advise the that councils in Manabi are very different now. Don't try to do bribes, as everything is now checked. Many house are not council registered and cant be sold on and owners wont get certificates. If your agent does not have the owners valid council certificates then don't proceed. Check this out for value @

    Chevron polluted the country and then failed to pay the fine

    • @susansmithkichwapanikuna9911
      @susansmithkichwapanikuna9911 2 года назад +2

      Yes, they did, but they did not pollute the entire country. I have watched many videos the past few months on the different areas of Ecuador to live in. There are many beautiful places there. Don't judge the country by what one American company did and refuses to rectify.

      @@susansmithkichwapanikuna9911 so their
      pollution is forgivable? Chevron is not the only polluter in this region. Canadian mining companies are dredging rivers for gold and using mercury in the process. Monoculture is leading to a blight on the banana crops. I live in Ecuador. Instability is growing.

      @@petermartell568 Far from it. I am one of those who has been lobbying for them to release the lawyer who won the case against Chevron and other companies that have been polluting our planet. All polluters need to be made accountable for their destruction. It makes me very sad and angry to hear of the disregard for pachamama by these companies. I am just saying don't judge Ecuador because an American company has disregard for the country's natural resources. I have a deep love for the country. I have seen videos of the beauty there from my dear friends who are Ecuadorian runa. It is a beautiful country.

      @@susansmithkichwapanikuna9911 Started coming to Ecuador (first in Vilcabamba) in 2000 and have lived in all areas while avoiding Esmarelda. Always amazed by the diversity of the land and the people. Stunning landscapes and vibrant cultures. I am concerned for the indigenous movement and free press with the political shift to the right. Opening of jungle territory to oil is not going to bode well.

    Lol, everyone in Guayaquil and anywhere in la Costa has air conditioning, you will die without it. Also its a dangerous country. Im Ecuadorian and never go around in buses. Especially foreigners, they should be extra careful.. taxis are prime places to be kidnapped for money. (That happens on a daily and its called secuestro express)Please investigate further if you want to retire to Ecuador! I don’t know one person who hasn’t been robbed at gun point and I lived in the nicest neighborhood in Guayaquil/Samborondon. 😓 Also food is inexpensive but don’t plan a shopping spree for clothes because its super expensive..

      Hey, I was robbed in Houston. I lived in Dallas "poor area" for sometime . I've seen things that I didn't see or even go through in my so called "third world nation" So please don't come up with that. There is danger just about EVERYWHERE. We just have to be cautious. That's all

      PART II: I am not denying the facts you stated as true. I also want to recommend avoiding buses in UIO and GYE and have the same taxi driver all the time. That meaning you get to know well the person that drives for you or the company he or she works for. You can also use an app. However I'm not so sure if it safe. I've used it myself in the U.S. and worked just fine. There are crazy drivers on Uber and other apps around the world just beaware.
      Not all the cities are same. You can get a nice bus ride in Cuenca (as I did in 2010) and enjoy life. Or you can have a crazy and or even "risky" ride in Guayaquil. It's up to you. No matter where you are in the this world. ALWAYS KEEP AN EYE OPEN

      What a random thing to say to a stranger 🤷🏽‍♀️ Iv never smoked in my life and detest Olon and Montañita.
      Im not saying its not dangerous in other places in the world, im saying Guayaquil/Ecuador is particularly dangerous. Im just trying to inform people as much if they so desire to move there and to be extra careful.
