Hi JazzMentlists! So, soaring up the JazzMentl Charts for most popular video is the "Fabulous Latin Piano Montunos!" If you missed it, watch it here: ruclips.net/video/EekXPNQT59c/видео.html. Due to its popularity, I recorded this part 2 "Jazz Piano Montuno and Tumbao Tips". I wrote out the sheet music, so be sure to download it. All links can be found in video description. If you are watching on mobile or tablet, simply click the "SHOW MORE" button in above video description. Okay JazzMentlists...so fun to play for you. My 1st commercial CD called "Wayward" was mostly Latin music, so you know I'm a big fan. I wrote out arrangements for large ensemble and featured the music on the main stage of the Montreal Jazz Festival. Great times! One day, I'll have to listen to that CD again haha. I'm sure I'd want to change something. - Well, don't let me keep you from your practicing! - Musically yours, Paul Tobey
Thank you! I specifically Googled "struggling to line up right left hands Montuno Tumbao" and your video came up first. The sheet music and your tips are a great help!
I'm happy you found my video for Montuno Tumboa! Many people don't know this, but engagement with RUclips videos such as leaving a thumbs up or a comment are very good signals to both RUclips and Google - which in turn help "rank" videos so they could be found. I'm happy to learn you found this video in a search. Thanks for the comment, and I'm glad I could help. 🙂
Thanks for this. A good breakdown as to how montunos work with a good example. Sharing the sheet music is really nice. And to your point, for those of us running along primarily in 4/4 time this is a bit of a challenge to master. Thanks for all you share, and I am a subscriber!
Hello Paul, a very interesting informative Latin Harmony that guides you in the search for other musical trends. Thank you very much for the lessons, as far as I am concerned, I would like to get to know the modal scales of beboop more thoroughly and jazz such as the previous one, e.g. Autumn leaves was the world championship in improvisation and jazz harmony. Kind regards. Piotr Sycz
Very nice video. Thanks. Fits perfect to drums and percussion: tumbao (conga), Martillo (bongo) , cascara (timbales) and clave. I hear & feel a 3/2 clave; hope that is correct. A basic bell pattern also is possible. Can hear all kind of tom patterns that will fit when soloing. on the basis Montuno & Tumbao. Of course when it is a song with melody the rhythms have to keep space for the melody, solo and accompaniment.
