My absolute hero growing up. Everyone used to hate me for liking him. I would cheer every time this man would touch the ball in the field. The catches, the run outs, the saves. He was an absolute thing of beauty. Even at 6 I knew there was this grace to him which I didn’t see in anyone else. And while everyone wanted to be Sachin, Sehwag, Dravid, Akhtar, Warne, and all I just wanted to be like Rhodes. He was a left batsman too if I remember correctly which is what I am(or used to be anyways) been years since I played. Been years since I thought of Jonty Rhodes. I’m glad someone else was also a fan enough to post this

Apart from being outstanding closein fielder at forward short leg without helmet and playing on rough grounds in seventees, he excelled in deep as well. With Venkat in gully, Wadekar & Gavaskar in slips, Brejesh Patel in cover, India had been outstanding fielding team. Even Tiger Pataudi was class apart at cover point.
