@@CultCinemaClassics Is that what we are? I thought I just liked old movies. Can you do a stint of Barbara Steele movies? Have you seen the Horrible Dr Hickcock? Necrophilia...in technocolor!
Already in 1949 there were 8-lane highways and teachers were poorly paid. Much better than expected and a better ending than expected, except for the last minute or so which is missable.
This reminds me of the 1950's when theaters used to have cartoons, news, and then the feature movie. After the feature they always ran a worthless B picture like this one to let teenagers make out. Then they would let people stay through everything a second time and didn't kick anyone out like they do today. Thus the hit song, "Wake up Little Susie." I almost forgot how screwed we get nowdays where they only show the preview and the feature, and kick you out in the street as soon as it ends. No staying around a second time to see the parts you missed while in the men's room or or scenes you'd want to see again.
And I didn't have to get there on the dot at showtime; I could walk in in the middle, watch to the end, sit through the first half of the next showing, and then stay longer if I wanted - all that, for 50¢.
Anne Gwynne was out of this world. She was so captivating and charming. I can't keep my eyes off her in any of the few movies I've seen featuring her. Lowery was excellent. Sort of like Robert Wagner in "Hart to Hart." May 19, 2022. I just turned 78, BTW

The fireman forces his way in for one hour, hits on the babysitter, then imposes himself on the situation and offers to drive her home. Then she agrees to babysit him the next night. Meanwhile, an old lady’s hormones get a jerk when she stumbles into the fireman’s arms. Why was innuendo and flirting so abundant in 1949?

Good work
This is far better than I anticipated.
So many films! So little time. Thank you for what you do
Film-Noir - YES! 😎👍 Thank you!
@Valerifon1
FYI: Every old mystery, or crime film is not a film noir!
Grandma showing up to babysit was hilarious 😂

I am big Edward Brophy fan. Love the golden era of movies, when they were real talented actors.
@1949LA-ARCH
Although Edward Brophy is a welcome staple in many of these old B movies, I wouldn't rate him a great actor.
Fireman walks into Cobbie’s bookie joint. No sighting of Dix or the Dr. watch out for Dietrict
On Knx radio…here’s Trevor down the stretch with the 7th at Hollywood park..
enjoyable movie - fun script - must be difficult to transition from B to A
Good cast for a Lippert film.

You're not the only one who liked the looks of Anne Gwynne. She was voted as one of the favourite pinups of US servicemen in WWII.

Lowery solid B actor
Luv Edward Brophy!!!
Pete the Pyromaniac was passed out dead drunk, then totally sobered up by the time he got to the warehouse. Hollywood realism.

It's always been that way in Hollywood.
