    I found the Talky Toaster ones too cluttered and dificult to interpret. But maybe just because it’s a different style to OS maps and requires getting used to, I wonder if OS will bring the 1:25k maps to the Garmin watches. That old be great.

    OS map looks good. Can you see the contour lines on the fenix 7x?

      On the different map sets shown you can see the contour lines , also one of the map settings on the watch is to show contour lines for the digital maps

    Hi There- I hope you don't mind me asking a couple of questions here please. I have a Fenix 7X (just getting used to it) Mainly got it for Hiking. I did a 9(ish) mile hike yesterday and it used a few days of battery life. do you know a rough guide of battery consumption of say a 10 mile hike? I mainly use OS maps and send the GPX file to the watch via Garmin connect. is there a better practice than this? also I'm doing the TMB in August and it looks like I have the Topoactive Europe map version 2023.10. is there a better map for France? thanks in advance. Jon.

      Hi Jon, there are different GPS Settings within the watch that will affect battery life, i.e. if you are hiking in areas with clear view of the sky and no tall obstructions you could set as GPS only and from our experience should achieve close to the 80hrs, I tend to use our watches set as all Satellite and have been still achieving around 60hrs battery, in a challenging environment with limited view of the sky and tall obstructions you can set as all systems / multi band but this can drop battery down to approx. 30hrs - 35hrs.
      Garmin connect is the simplest way to get GPX files onto the Fenix watches.

    Is there a version of the Garmin Topo GB Pro OS maps which is transferable across devices so I can use on Fenix 7 and 64s?

    • @ukgpstraining
      @ukgpstraining  5 месяцев назад

      Sadly not, when downlaoding OS maps you can only download and use on x 1 GPS unit or watch

      @@ukgpstraining I think OS are missing a trick here. The OS mapping on smart phones is a low cost subscription service, which for the most part, is all people need. But for others who need/want it on watches/handhelds it’s seems expensive - prohibitively so for those who use in it infrequently. Surely a subscription model would be better and would likely generate revenue long term (most software companies operate like this now). Perhaps it’s a licensing issue.

    This might be a stupid question. Can you use your watch as regular map navigation?

    • @ukgpstraining
      @ukgpstraining  3 месяца назад +1

      You could do, but you would struggle with the screen size. The best way is to plan (or download) your route before you go. This video takes you through the 'navigational experience' you get from a watch - ruclips.net/video/70vldKb5yYc/видео.htmlsi=DDjS8K0QNdoiILja

    With no OS Maps available for Ireland the TalkyToaster are the most detailed, much better than the Garmin Topo.

  • @MiniEggs1999
    @MiniEggs1999 5 месяцев назад

    Yes I know you can see them here but this is the epix and the fenix has a much lower res screen with less colours

      @MiniEggs1999
      Apologies I misread your text and thought that you were asking for confirmation on whether they were visible on the Epix 2 in the video shown on this post.
      Garmin's website under the Topo GB Pro OS 1:50k.maps compatibility do not show the Fenix 7 range only the Epix 2, I am assuming this is due to the lower number of pixels and colours that the Fenix 7 has compared to the Epix 2.
      I did own a Fenix 7x sometime ago and from memory I could see Contour lines on the Talky Toaster maps that I had installed and I am pretty sure also on the Garmin UK & Ireland light mapping.
      Talky toasters website shows some screen shot examples of their maps taken from a Fenix 7x and they do show contour lines.
      Hope this helps 🙂
