24 years ago but did you notice the playing style? Quick ball and lots of support, which seems to be missing in much of today's rugby.

They had phenomenal strength in depth in the centres in this tour. Gibbs, Bateman, Guscott, Tait were all phenomenal and the bolter was Will Greenwood.

Their continuity in the warm-up matches was remarkable. Great offloads and looking to keep the ball alive.

The speed of attack is superb. Guscott.... too cool to smile.

I remember reading about Ian McGeechan spending time with the All Blacks in 1996 on their tour; they weren't going to outmuscle the Springboks so had to find another way - the result was some great open Rugby.

That Bentley try is iconic, and unfortunately not shown much here but what a talented player Allan Bateman was

Definately true and not bad for a Rugby League import. Fray Bentos on we go

@@billblamire2923 Bateman wasn't a rugby league import. He was a Welsh international in union before he went to league, and returned as soon as union went pro. (just like Gibbs, Quinnel and Tait)

The rugby boys who went to the dark side came back fitter stronger and learned how to tackle !

Cracking rugby but how different to today’s game?. Ball retention seems almost optional compared to modern times

Such fluid rugby……unlike the defense dominated turgid crap of today. All the defense of rugby league with none of the fluidity of union today……give me 80s & 90s union any day….except for England’s kick and maul tedium of the 90s.
