this is exactly why socialized education is needed, forcing young adults into compromising on their education leads them into carriers they aren't passionate about and when the choice is between crippling debt and a mundane carrier the sad reality is that most will end up choosing the ladder. if you take cost out of the equation you get fantastic effects but 2 of the biggest are one, every person gets the ability to study something they are passionate about leading to higher production in the future and second fields who don't require post-secondary education will be forced to pay their employees more to off set the effects of more people getting more education and not going into those fields.
plus the vast majority of modern jobs outside of the trades require a post-secondary education, without the people who go though those programs our modern society will crash and burn. also just a side note, the vast majority of majors and minors in collage are extremely applicable in the real world, its just that for a lot of those things you would never know because of their highly specific natures. as for the people who undergo a major in a less applicable field, they tend to just go into teaching or research, id actually argue that anything more than a minor in business is a bad idea due to it being something that is so accessible outside of school.

College is the last place that facilitates relationship building (Greek life, dating, classmates, networking) but the intended purpose of Uni is steadily losing its value compared to other options
I agree!! If the relative costs of not having to go into debt for most of your adult life would become more reasonable vs. universities hoarding money (there's lots of data about this to find) then I think I'd be more apt to highly encourage people going to college for at least those valuable life experiences you mentioned!!
