    First point this was a good video, the chart was a little crowded, and some context for the data points that was provided throughout the video could have been explained in the beginning so it would be easier to follow along with your explanation. Lastly, I think the green, yellow, and red scales should be adjusted a bit to account for CPU's that were still priced high but giving low frames comparatively and vice versa.

    • @Lead-a-Horse-PC-Hardware
      @Lead-a-Horse-PC-Hardware 17 часов назад

      Thanks for the suggestions and compliment! With this level of data, it's tough to not have it be crowded. I had thought about doing a different kind of chart, more graphic in nature, but it would be hard for people to follow as graphic charts can look pretty chaotic or hard to identify specific data points. I plan on doing follow up vids in the future similar to my plan for the gpu vids, perhaps once a month or every couple of months and hopefully I'll be able to figure out something easier to follow by then. As to the color scales, I like your idea of identifying those outliers of high price vs. low frames, but I think perhaps a differentiating color to highlight those specific cpu's. What do you think?

    • @kodemdotexe4925
      @kodemdotexe4925 16 часов назад

      @@Lead-a-Horse-PC-Hardware I'm not sure if a different color would illustrate that they cost a lot but produce low frames compared to other CPUs to me the point of cost per frame is to show you shouldn't buy product A if product B cost lost and is 1.better, 2 equal or just about equal 3. only a little behind like around 80 to 90% of the same performance. and there's a lot of cpu's listed so maybe having them listed by the performance tiers or core count like the i/r3 i/r5 i/r7 i/r9 things like that, or using multiple graphs might be the solution

    • @Lead-a-Horse-PC-Hardware
      @Lead-a-Horse-PC-Hardware 16 часов назад

      Perhaps, I'll have to think about that and how to possibly implement such comparisons without extending the video lengths too much (youtube seems to have problems with new channels having vids that are too long :/). But to be clear, I was thinking of highlighting them in a differentiating color and then discussing them. I don't know if it needs to be granular as to cross comparisons and percentages of performance within those comparisons since that would possibly make the chart(s) even more complex and possibly even harder to follow. I'll have to consider it though! But, I do agree that if some cpu's really stand out as outliers, that could be beneficial to point those out whether they are great buys or bad buys, but more specific than that, would exponentially increase the video length!

      That's a good all around cpu for gaming at 1440p and 4k, it's a little in the worrisome range in the cost per frame at 1080p, but at 1440p, it's a solid performer and cost effective!

    I also have another question. I currently have a Rx 6800, but 2 games I play have RT and it destroys the AMD card. I was looking to get a 4060 ti 16gb for the RT. I know it is a little slower. I figured it would do until the 50 series came out.

    • @Lead-a-Horse-PC-Hardware
      @Lead-a-Horse-PC-Hardware 10 дней назад

      I would wait for now to see what is offered and what those prices are before buying that gpu. A good example of this, specifically for gaming, was the 9000 series cpus that came out where the uplift was very small vs the 7000 series cpus at a price point much higher than the current prices of the 7000 series. This result in turn raised the prices of the 7800X3D by more than 27% recently. Similarly, if the 5000 series gpus turns out unimpressive, it would raise the prices of the 4000 series gpus in theory. BUT if the new gpus outperform the 4000 series by a decent amount, it should theoretically lower the price of the 4000 series. As well, the 4060 Ti is an okay gpu, not great, and certainly might have a problem with games in the near future even with 16gb of vram, and at the current prices, that gpu would not be a great buy.

  • @themachine4008

    • @Lead-a-Horse-PC-Hardware
      @Lead-a-Horse-PC-Hardware 10 дней назад

      Intel isn't having as much of a problem with the i5's, I wouldn't be overly concerned with that for the 13th and 14th gen, especially if you update the recent microcode/bios. That being said, it's a bit of a shaky time for them for certain. If I were buying new, and wanted Intel, I'd probably go with 12th gen i5 or i7 for gaming which keeps you in the LGA 1700 socket for when they finally resolve the problems, thus giving you enough headroom for future upgrades. Otherwise, I'd wait on a new build with current gen stuff right now for both Intel and AMD, they are both having their share of problems right now.

      7800x3D may become a GOAT for AMD (depending on if there is a 9800x3D and if so, how it performs) since the rollout of Zen 5 is not good compared to Zen 4. Right now the 7800x3D is low in inventory for new and getting a bit competitive on the used market. If you want to get one, I'd get one either ASAP or wait until either end of year or Q1 2025 to see how the market is for it since you can always find a used one, but the price may shift massively up or down depending on Zen 5 news.

      For it's price, it's not bad. It's comparable to the RTX 4060 or the RX 6600 and is primarily good as a cost per frame at 1080p. At today's prices, once you get into 1440p gaming or above, it's cost per frame starts showing that it's under powered. That being said, with Intel's recent progress with XeSS and driver compatibility, it's starting to look better, but for 1440p gaming, its price needs to be closer to about where it was last month, around $180 would be a sweet spot for that card.

      I'd wait for the Arc A750, especially since Battlemage gpus are going to be announced probably this fall. The A750 price at $220 is a little too high for its value. The 3060 ti performs better by a decent clip than the A750 and on the used market is going for between $220 to $280, so with a 1 yr warranty, $240 is a decent price (I'd rather see it near $220 due to age of the card). And the 3070 performs a little better than the 3060 ti and is currently going for between $230 to $300 on the used market, so the $260 price is decent with a 1 yr warranty (though I'd like to see that one at about $240 or lower). All in all the two Nvidia cards are a decent deal at your prices, depending on the coverage that the warranty is providing. If you are planning on using these for pc or component flips then look into whether or not that 1 yr warranty is transferrable. Bottom line, good prices on the RTXs, not a good price on that A750.

    • @Lead-a-Horse-PC-Hardware
      @Lead-a-Horse-PC-Hardware 22 дня назад

      Right now, you're better off waiting to see what comes to market (possibly as late as Q1 2025. That can help you to figure out (after 3rd party benchmarking is done) the best price to performance for the dollar. In doing so, it will also possibly drive prices down on older models when the new models roll out. Conversely, there have been times where it either drives older model pricing up or they stay the same, it will depend on inventory vs. demand. I'd also keep an eye on what AMD is doing with their FSR and RT improvements between now and then to see if there is benefit there. The best apples for apples comparison for you would be the 4070 Ti Super vs. the 7900 xt. I'd only look at the 7900 GRE if you are looking to maximize $/frame and still remain at 16GB Vram.

      Thanks a lot! That's a great question! I think that over the short term there is a slight higher value to DLSS but FSR (and XeSS for Intel) are making larger strides in frame gen and even RT. So I think that in the long term it will become a footrace on which of these gets the lead in the market. In other words, in the long run, I think the relative value of DLSS/FSR/XeSS will end up being nearly indistinguishable; however, right now DLSS has the slight edge especially if you involve RT.

      If it was new, it's not a bad price, a little lower by about $80 would be nice to get at least one of their price/frame numbers into the green. The near equivalent performer gpu for price/perf from AMD would be the 7900 XT, there's one from Asrock right now for approximately the same price for $649.99 and it has 20 GB of VRAM and the fps numbers are slightly better for the 7900 XT. A 16 GB alternative would be the 7900 GRE which from a straight fps comparison does slightly worse than the 4070 Ti Super, but there is one from Acer selling at $499.99. The only downside I can think of when comparing would be that DLSS performs better than FSR at this point and I don't see that changing a whole lot in the near future, so if you plan on using that, then I'd stick with the NVIDIA card.

      @Lead-a-Horse-PC-Hardware Месяц назад

      My pleasure!! It won't matter in the current state of gaming unless you're going into ultra settings with RT in which case the difference in VRAM can come into play with or without DLSS, depending on the game and game engine. But most games are satisfyingly playable even at 50fps so I don't think you would have much to worry about. If games start coming out that are a lot more gpu hungry, it could be a problem, but between DLSS, FSR, Unreal Engine 5.4+, and the increasing focus on game optimizations, I don't see it being a problem. Your card should do you proud for at least the next 4 to 6 years.

    10gb vram on 3080 i have gets destroyed now by many games. Its not about fps, its about being able to use the games full texture and lighting without the card saying "no!, cant do that" fps is totally different story and 4070 does have a lot going for it in terms of fps and frame gen is great(even though limited games) 4070 isnt budget and isnt enough vram when you're spending $4-500 in 2024 in terms of value. Also not every game needs high vram but if im casual i wouldn't be even buying a $400 card to begin with. If youre casual and spending $400 on a card, youre going to be happy but have more money than sense. Should be 12gb min. This isnt a 1080p card its a 1440p card realistically. At same time 4000 series in laptops though are beasts and really efficient.

      You shouldn't be getting destroyed at 1080P in anything and most likely can play most games at 1440P fine with that card on at least High settings. My old Box with a 9600k/1660 TI plays Helldivers 2/ RD2 ect just fine on high 1080P. My current Rig is a 7800x3d with a 4070 Super that has zero issues at 1440P. Honestly anything over 12GB Vram is a waste at 1080P or 1440P

    I agree, I'm actually getting frustrated about the amount of crying about vram on entry level cards! We are fine with playing at 1080p 60fps with the combo of current gpu/current games, and 1080p 30fps with older gpu/current games. "oh but you could play at 1440p with upscale" but I won't, not buying a new more expensive monitor that I can't afford to get the best out of. If you're not playing on 1080p and sometimes dealing with 30fps, this video is not about you, you are in the top 30% or so that can actually afford smooth gaming.

  • @pseudonym5872

    I'm assuming you're referring to their video where they show the VRAM usage in games? And they show the settings which they used to get those results? The HUB team based their conclusion on what they showed in their video - actual VRAM usage at the settings listed. They aren't talking about people like you in that video. You define 30-50 average FPS at 1080p in an area where nothing was happening (no combat, explosions, etc.) as "doing pretty good". Your average FPS would tank if you were actually in a combat scene with explosions and effects happening, and there would be hitching going on. It might even get so low as to be a slide show. That's not fun game play in the parts where you need smoothness to be successful. The most important part of HUB's video is the "What does running out of VRAM look like?" chapter. Those frame time graphs shows how smooth the game play is - and those big spikes show that it's actually NOT smooth. That is what your Cyberpunk game play would look like on those graphs - high frame times and big spikes, so not smooth. In your case it might not be strictly VRAM related - it's likely more a matter of having a crappy GPU and an overall low-end to maybe mid-range system. My almost four year old system is an i9-10850k overclocked, 32GB 3600 RAM, and 3070 8GB overclocked, with a CPU+GPU custom liquid cooling loop. I play at 1440p. I have to go through the settings of each game I play and find the ones that have the least impact on visuals, like the skybox and reflections and shadows, and turn them down to low or even off. That's so I can keep my FPS high during scenes with combat and explosions and effects. I would not be happy with your "doing pretty good" performance because I want combat to be smooth. Based on the performance of my current system in the games that I play, when I build a new system (which will be soon) I won't even consider anything less than 16GB on the GPU. And I'll still be playing at 1440p because I don't need 4k yet. Maybe when 1440p becomes mainstream I'll switch to 4k.

    • @luciano12sa
      @luciano12sa 2 месяца назад

      key part: based on [..] my current system. You have a pretty beefy pc. Running smooth 1440p really is the sweet spot of gaming right now, but it's not the reality of most.

    8 GB is ok for the casual, 3 hours a week gamer on 1080p. But at this stage, you can honestly go for a console, if you dont need the PC for anything else. So yeah, 8 GB can be enough nowadays, if you adjust your expectations. But when you go for a new PC these day, aiming for a somewhat current generation, you should avoid 8 GB cards. Budget-Builds: Yes. Mid-Range: Try to avoid it. High-End: Big nono.

      this goes for everything else - old even 4 cores cpus, mid and now even low tier graphic cards, 16 gigs of ram, low res low refresh rate monitors and so on. it's more than enough for the absolute majority of mainstream gamers. it's not even about ultra settings - there're tons of frame by frame comparisons showing not only that ultra is most of the time pointless, but often enough high and medium settings are virtually indistinguishable, literally the same.

    0:40 We usually get a ~80-170% increase in the number of transistors in the GPU every generation. GP102 [11.8Bn] >> TU102 [18.6Bn] >> GA102 [28.3 Bn] >> AD102 [76.3Bn] Why does a 50% increase in Vram [which also is made of transistors] sound justified to you over the course of 8 years especially given the price premium? We used to get 11 GB at 700 USD, now we get 16 GB for a 1000/1200 USD. VRAM is also cheaper than it was before. Secondly, I know so many people who game on their TVs, which are all 4k. Why would anyone game at 1080p on their 4k TV? Thirdly 4k gaming monitors are coming out and are replacing 2k monitors in the market. I myself have only had 4k monitors in the last ~10 years. Even phones have more resolution than 1080p nowadays. I mean you don't need all the VRAM if your only wish is to simply play a game no matter the resolution/graphic quality. But if you wish to enjoy it with all the detail and eye candy, then even 16 GB is a limitation right now, especially in 4k setups. For me, the immersion I get with the higher resolution is part of the gaming experience.. It just enables a different experience. And VRAM makes it possible.

On the other hand, I have yet to have any sort of VRAM issues with my 3080 Ti at 4K maximum with RT included.
