The writer/creator/everyone said Leyton were planned from the start and shown that on the episodes and Brooke was presented as always being second choice in his relationship. It's so weird some fans still idealize trying to make the girl he settled with as more. Even Brooke figured out the truth in the end after catching them together as friends and more so many times.
I can't pick any of them I don't think Lucas was in love with any of them. He was probably intrigued by both but not enough for any of them to have a long lasting relationship

I also can't get why people compare Lucaya to Leyton. That just doesn't makes sense. Of course there are some similarities between Maya and Peyton with the family problem thing but that's it. That doesn't mean her whole relationship is similar to leyton's. I prefer Brucas. If you see it, rucas is more like leyton with the whole 'she is the one for me' thing when unexpectedly Brucas and Lucaya happens. Lucas was so smitten with Riley and the same thing happened with Leyton. And Maya as I believe is like Brooke too. The girl who thinks she is hopeless and lost and doesn't give a rat ass but when the guy, Lucas comes into picture, her whole belief changes and she too changes positively. Leyton/Rucas was so predictable btw.
