After all, Kanji is so much more than "he's gay" on our side of the world. By the same token, Yukari "go with the flow" bit could be an adaptation of a Japanese expression, as can Mitsuru's 'free to love whomever, but this is out of the question' explanation. As I do not know the original dialogue I cannot say for sure, so feel free to call me out on my BS if you are so obliged to.

I think both you and Vox Nihili make excellent points. However, I believe the subtly of the dialog is in deference to Nintendo. The Persona team, like many anime artists, have a very progressive view on these pairings. This game was made because the team reads everyone's fanfiction - no joke. They, themselves will insert items and situations of critical thinking (i.e. deconstructing gender roles) that object to Japanese and/or western ideologies and then have characters who reinforce or challenge these ideologies through their dialog as real people do. I think you guys probably already know that; I'm not trying to sound patronizing. I understand what both of you are saying and you both make good points.
I'm just trying to reiterate that the developers must deal with publishers like Nintendo who often go through several stages of "focus groups" made up of influential "parents" long before consumers focus groups get a chance to see it. (Typically CEOs of large companies, members of local government and at times even church leaders, all of whom haven't been parents for quite a while ^_- ). This process goes from here (Japan) and then to you over there (I'm guessing US?) They actually mentioned this in one of their famitsu interviews, that they - I can't think of the word - but it's while they were writing it they censored it in anticipation of that process. Nintendo is like the Disney of video games, as I understand. Censored may not be the correct term but you understand

Honestly, outside of PQ2 (where her inclusion was more so because people begged for her inclusion), I guess it’s because Atlus doesn’t really give a shit about her. She was just meant to add extra content to P3P (hell the game kinda lampshades that she isn’t the intended Persona 3 experience people are supposed to go through.) so yeah.
