    All this time I have been keeping my chin down and opening up my throat and raising soft palate and the best I could hit is a high B above middle C. Raising my head like that would provoke the Larynx to float upward causing tension in the throat. My teacher used to tell me to keep my chin down. It's amazing how you can keep your larynx down like that. I love TENOR opera arias and would love to sing them properly using your technique.

      Thanks for your insightful comment, @angusmcallister111! This technique does help in increasing pharyngeal space, which is crucial for achieving a certain vocal quality, especially in higher registers. The engagement of the cricoid cartilage are part of this intricate process. It's great to see such a keen understanding of vocal mechanics, as these details are vital in classical singing as well as contemporary commercial music (CCM) styles. Your observation about it resembling a CCM belt position is quite perceptive!

    Hi there, question, I had a voice coach years ago, I'm a countertenor, and I was instructed to drop my chin and head not lift up, and it feels to me like I'm strangling when I go higher but when I drop my chin and head it feels like I have more room in my throat, and have always done that, but I see you lifting, I was wondering is that because you are doing a more operatic than a choir type voice? You sound amazing btw, I wouldn't care if I had neighbors who worked night shift lol they're getting an Aria to sleep too! ❤ Thank you.

    • @giancarlomonsalve
      @giancarlomonsalve  6 месяцев назад +1

      Yes, it's normal to use head voice for higher notes like D5, especially in contemporary music. The key is to do it without straining. If it feels like screeching, you might need to adjust your technique. It's important to sing within your comfort zone to avoid damaging your voice. Consider seeking guidance from a vocal coach to ensure you're using healthy vocal techniques. But what I teach is Old School of Singing opera techniques and we apply full chest connection also on the top notes.

      A counter tenor range is mostly falsetto. That means it produces an entirely different sound in an entirely different way, with very little technique cross over. Falsetto requires what I summarize as vocal grip in places that are better suited when the jaw is positioned downward or in a more neutral position. However, singing full voice is strengthened in an inverse or opposite manner. I'd argue that use of your falsetto (counter tenor voice) is actually training your voice to work opposite of chest voice. He is using chest voice. You have to use different techniques than you are using for falsetto. Also, it works for sopranos to have jaw down a lot more, because the sound quality their voices are used for naturally ping in that direction.

    I’m a counter-tenor. D5 is a weird spot on my voice lol. My first break is around Bb4-D5 and my second break is G#5- Bb5.

      Wow you're a rare find. I've never heard of a male singer with a passaggio that high in my entire life.

      Counter tenor is not a real voice type. It is a technique (with head voices, falsettos etc). There are 4 major tenor groups: Dramatic tenor, spinto tenor, lyric tenor and leggero tenor. "Baritenor" and "Heldentenor" are also groups to be considered. If you have a light chest voice and be able to reach high notes then you're a lyric tenor.

      @@bradycall1889because it's head voice. No female singer even has a second break that high

    Him and I have similar voices ( at least with the Male Tenor spectrum ) I can also go into the A's in my whistle register. Funny thing ( now ) is, when I was going through puberty and my voice was changing, my friends would put me up to hitting and holding a note similar to his in this video, they thought it was funny because when I'd hit a certain note, I could literally cause car alarms on that street to trigger and we'd watch as people had to turn their lights on and actually go to their car. Not proud of it, but just saying the voice and frequencies of it can do many things.

      That's quite an extraordinary story and a testament to the power of the human voice! It's fascinating to hear about the similarities in your vocal abilities and the unique experiences you've had with your range. Being able to reach into whistle register and impact your surroundings like that is remarkable. It's a great example of how each voice is unique and can have surprising effects. Keep exploring and enjoying your vocal journey - who knows what other interesting stories you'll gather along the way!

    I'm a dramatic tenor with a pitch between g2 and D5, but I'm lucky, my lows voice are like a bariton, it gives me an advantage.

      That's a fantastic vocal range and a unique advantage you have as a dramatic tenor with baritone-like lows. It offers versatility and depth to your singing, allowing you to tackle a wide range of repertoire. Keep honing your skills and making the most of your voice's unique qualities. It's a great asset in the world of opera!

      @@giancarlomonsalve Hello, now my low voice has become deeper, we have been working hard for about 5 months with a good teacher, my low voice is now exactly 3 octaves between E2 and E5, this does not make me a baritone or tenor :) I am just saying that my vocal range is wide and I want to be a good singer. I'm working for 🙏 (my english very bad ım sorry) 🙂
