- It is a historic change for the Michigan State Police. For generations, police have used motorcycles to patrol and respond to crimes. Now the MSP motorcycle unit is being disbanded.

Numerous departments have gotten rid or better yet tried to get rid of their Motorcycle Units before realizing their usefulness and bringing them back. As well more Troopers have died in vehicle accidents than motorcycle accidents over the years. Me thinks someone high up just doesn't like motorcycles !!!!
They missed the opportunity to mount one red light on top of the helmet.

I didn't even know We had state police officers on motorcycles in Michigan.
Motor officers are the "Cowboys" of every department . There ARE special considerations where bikes are needed , but they are few and far between. Summertime...OK .

Funny I'm 50 years old and I've lived in Michigan my entire life and I've never seen a Michigan State Police motorcycle officer only Grand Rapids police on motorcycles and I've only seen four of them. In 50 years
There very useful but in that state its absolutely worthless all winter long and parts of spring and fall.. here in Florida its made for motorcycles practically...🌴 😆
Unfortunately the world is getting more and more distracted. Look at the way emergency lights were years ago vs now. Many police cars had a lightbar and flashing headlights, now they have several several flashing lights, Michigan State police don't have many lights but no matter, someone is distracted they won't see the lights, drunk drivers use the cars with lights flashing as target practice. The roadway is not a safe place to be.
Wrong decision from my point of view…motorcycles can be more agile and fast (depending of the model) providing first securities

@@roythousand13 civilians do not give any oath to follow man made laws, troopers are sworn by law to uphold the law they regularly break unjustly.... how many police do you see speeding without any emergency equipment activated? I see it daily.

Explains why i havent seen any on 96 in between howell and brighton. Those guys had people pulled over every day i saw them. It's a good tool for people who think they're getting away with something stupid just because they don't see a police car

Texas have no motorcycle unite yet California has one I guess it's a safety issue in Texas, butmost big and small cities have them.

Just another way to restrict our Police from doing their job. It's a bad idea to take away the motorcycles; They can respond to some incidents when cars can't. The Officers know the extra risk they take when they choose the motorcycle unit. Keep our Cops on their Bikes!

South dokota highway patrol keeps a motorcycle unit going 🤣.
Motorists ignore Police Cars during Emergency Runs with all the Lights and Sirens they have, live is too short on doing the same calls on Two wheels. Officers have Zero protection around them. I know several guys who have given the MC keys back to the department after near misses on Traffic Stops and Emergency Runs. Too many cars out there now and everyone is on their phones.
They should get bicycles.....lol...and some building blocks too....goo goo.
Here in my home state of New Hampshire our State Police Department has a very big motorcycle fleet, but they don't use them during winter season.
How would these adult children feel if someone couldn't get to them right off the that to get to anyone who is in me that's hurt real bad how stupid are our children who don't recognize this and did not acknowledge or have enough skills to understand that these motorcycles are in need for getting between traffic and getting to emergency area
The younglings out there that are turning into adults don't recognize that motorcycles can get to places where other vehicles cannot if there was an emergency you need the motorcycle on the road to get in between to get to the urgent area where the accident may have happened if it's block with other
It's not about safety 1 bit. It's poor leadership and mismanagement.
Two young Troopers were killed within a short amount of time . Very sad for their families and coworkers .
