Edit: You can actually see this in those tea tests. Once Zamasu was set on what he was gonna do the tea became clear again it was even enough to convince Gowasu that Zamasu had moved past it.

What happened in Future Trunks's Buu Arc is that he got trained to wield the Z Sword by Supreme Kai and Kibito, then they fought Debura and Babidi when they showed up on Earth. Supreme Kai and Kibito both died in the battle. The Z Sword was turned to stone by Debura's spit which killed Elder Kai. Trunks achieved SSJ2 against them and prevented the Revival of Majin Buu. So Beerus was already dead when Goku Black and Zamasu showed up.
