Excellent video. I did the Yorkshire Three Peaks on 7th June 2022. Perfect conditions (clear summit views on all three mountains) and a fantastic challenge. Did the route the same as yourself, from Pen Y Ghent, then Whernside and last but not least Ingleborough. Would definitely do it again. As I chose to do the walk on a Tuesday there were very few walkers on route and June is an excellent month given the daylight hours. Loved the challenge and took plenty of photos so have a brilliant record of the wonderful scenery on a beautiful, sunny day.

      Hello Angela.
I am pleased you enjoyed the video and great news to see that you completed the walk; it is a good one, especially if you get good weather and great views.
If you can get the time, there are some great advantages to complete the walk mid-week.
I am pleased you manage to get a number of photos along the way. Looks as if you have captured some great memories.
There are many other walks on the channel; I hope some of these inspire you to undertake some of them. I have just come back from 3 days in The Lakes. So there will be 4 walks being uploaded over the coming weeks, with a couple of classics in there as well.
I hope you keep enjoying your walking.
      David

Just watched your very informative video after returning from completing the 3 peaks for the first time yesterday. We did it in a clockwise route starting from the ribblehead viaduct and so the long walk from ribblehad to pen y ghent was our 1st section. Then pen y ghent to Ingleborough and finish of on whernside. Positive in our opinion was the steep climb to pen and Ingleborough was a down for us, the negative was because we were going 'against the flow of traffic' so to speak (and it was a Saturday so very busy) we were constantly having to stop and wait for others coming up as we were going down so in hindsight probably not the best way to do it.

      Hello Martin
Many thanks for your feedback, great to see you took on the challenge and completed it.
I have done the walk a few times, but not in a clockwise direction. Saturdays can be a bit busy as well.
I am in the Lake District over the next few days, so there will be some classic walks being posted, hopefully these may inspire you to undertake some of the walks.
Great to have you onboard with the channel.

Morning, loved your video, very informative. I'm thinking of attempting the 3YP's... But I'm not at my fittest ha,... Did it take you 11.15mins at a reasonable pace or do you have to quicken yourself?.. I know everybody is different, but you looked like you were going at about my pace 'steady' ha. At 19 st with two hip replacements I'm no sprinter anymore!... I'll be watching your other videos and well done 👍

      Hello Graham.
I am pleased you enjoyed the video and found it informative.
I have a pace which I can stay at most of the day. I would always plan to complete the walk in 12 hours (2 miles per hour on average), and if completed in less time, well done.
Many thanks for your positive feedback, it is always appreciated.
On a side note, I have just signed a partnership agreement with OS Maps to open up all there resources. All of my walks will now be available through OS free GPS phone App, so you will be able to take the routes with you in your pocket.👌
Enjoy the rest of the walks.

Thinking of giving it a go in October, will be solo. I am 58 and average around 30 miles per week (walking) any tips would be appreciated 😊

    • @planwatchwalk
      @planwatchwalk  2 года назад +2

      Hello Sam.
      Good to hear from you.
It looks as if you should be walk fit for the walk, you will be climbing and descending quite a lot, so that would be a consideration.
I would imagine that there will be less people walking the route in October, than during the summer months, so that may be a consideration.
My advice would be around time management, plan on taking 12 hours, so leaving at sun rise would be advisable. The other considerations would be on kit. It will probably be quite cold on top, so plenty of layers as well as gloves and hat would be good. Under foot may be boggy, so a pair of boots and possibly gaiters (if you have).
Check the weather conditions before you head out, you may well need water proofs.
Lastly, but arguably most important would be maps, compass and torch, sat nav if you have. If anything goes wrong, or you walk off path, you could quite easily run out of day light.
Hope the above is of use. Any further comments, just drop me a line.
      Have a great walk.
      David.

Is Pen-y-Gwent proof that this hill actually belongs in South East Wales? Language wise, after a good few years resident in Cymru, I can tell you for sure that "Pen" means "Head", and "y" means "of", so whether it is Cymraig (Welsh) or another form of old Celtic language, Pen-y-Ghent is sure to mean "Head of the" something (likely related to a confluence - perhaps the two dales either side of it, or may have stood on the border between the Celts and the Angles, or maybe even the Norsemen), but it won't be head of Newport🙂.
