    You have to understand about Snape that he was in love with Lily (Harry’s Mom) from a very young age. When she and him arrived at Hogwarts and went into separate houses, Lily meets James Potter who she eventually falls in love with and marries. James bullied Snape when they were kids, but Snape always hung onto his love for Lily. This is why Snape shows such disregard and anger towards Harry. His jealousy made him treat Harry in a negative way because he was the son of a man he hated, but also the woman he so desperately loved and unfortunately could never have. And he swore to Dumbledore that he would always protect Harry because of his undying love to Lily (“Always”). So yes, Snape was a double agent but in the end was a good guy. The film did a decent job of showing this in the memories scene, but the books explain it a lot better and more in detail. Early on when the films started coming out, J.K. Rowling had a conversation with Alan Rickman explaining all of this to him long before the final book was even written. She wanted him to understand why Snape would have such horrible feelings towards Harry. This ultimately helped in the development of Rickman’s portrayal of Snape’s character. He was the only person given this knowledge according to Rowling.

      @@CharlieFBarassi Facts. Sometimes I feel like McGonagall goes under-appreciated. She shows she cares and loves the students, and she is fair and unbiased. She never shows outward favoritism (with a few exceptions in Harry's case); she will praise you for your triumphs, but will just as quickly criticize you (constructively, of course) when it's clear you haven't been on par with your work. And if you break the rules, she will not hesitate to discipline you in a way that truly lets you know, you f---ed up. But ultimately, she does it all because she wants what's best for the students. And as we all know, if the students are in imminent danger, that warrior side comes out and she will go to all lengths possible to defend the kids. Minerva McGonagall is truly the mother of Hogwarts, the mother many of those kids probably needed/never had. To this day, I feel like she should have been named Harry's godmother.

    • @lmj2k
      @lmj2k Год назад +9

      @@lorenzopippia5257 - Making horcruxes isn’t as simple as making a feather fly like in book/movie 1. Making a horcrux requires one to split one’s soul with a supreme act of evil (murder). He had made six horcruxes intentionally (the diary, the ring, the locket, the cup, the diadem, and Nagini) because he felt that having his soul in seven pieces would be more powerful magically. Splitting one’s soul once is a massive deal. Doing it more than once makes the soul remaining in the body more unstable. The books detail more how Tom Riddle had been handsome in his youth. Over time when he had been making horcruxes, his features became more twisted and blurred, so there is also a physical toll. He had made several horcruxes before going to Godric’s Hollow to kill Harry, and as a result of the failed killing curse that rebounded on him, a piece of Voldemort’s soul ended up embedded in Harry himself, making Harry an unintentional seventh horcrux - a result of the soul remaining in his body being unstable. As to why he didn’t retreat - Voldemort truly believed that killing Snape would make him the true master of the elder wand, and would make him invulnerable.

    • @lorenzopippia5257
      @lorenzopippia5257 Год назад +1

      @@lmj2k I know that making horcuxes is no piece of cake, but JKR never set a precise limit to the number of horcuxes a wizard could theoretically create, did she?
      I think the real reason why Voldemort didn't escape is just because Rowling wanted to be done with the books and the main story once and for all.

    • @lmj2k
      @lmj2k Год назад +1

      @@lorenzopippia5257 - The books do not specify how many times a person can split their soul, but a person splitting their soul as many times as Voldemort did was previously unheard of. It does specifically say that splitting one’s soul more than once does render the rest of the soul more and more unstable. Hermione read about horcruxes in Secrets of the Darkest Art, which gave specific instruction on how to make a horcrux and even gave explicit warning about how unstable it make’s one’s soul. The evidence of the instability of the corporeal soul after making several horcruxes was the fact that a piece of Voldemort’s soul had ended up in Harry as an infant. He had made five horcruxes prior to that point. He made one more after that purposely when he and Wormtail had taken up temporary residence in the Riddle house in Little Hangleton. It is admittedly educated conjecture with Dumbledore because again, making multiple horcruxes was unheard of before Voldemort’s dark magical experimentation and obsession with immortality, but it is chronicled in Dumbledore’s memories of Tom Riddle in the sixth book how he went from tall, dark, and handsome Tom Riddle to the snakelike featured Voldemort.
      The claim of Rowling “just wanting to be done with the books” doesn’t hold water. This was a series that made her a billionaire, and there was a bunch of literature and media tied to this series as off-shoots (Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find them, The Tales of Beedle the Bard, Quidditch Through the Ages, Pottermore/Wizarding World Digital, and so on). If you don’t actually want an answer to your question because you don’t want to open your mind to anything but the narrative you’re maintaining in your head, maybe don’t post this query to a bunch of comments on this video.

    • @zbynekurbanek3345
      @zbynekurbanek3345 Год назад +1

      @@lorenzopippia5257 I think the problem at that point is that Voldemort would not be splitting his "whole" soul. Already 6 (7?) parts of his sole were destroyed as the horcruxes were destroyed. So he would be trying to split his remaining 1/7th (1/8th?) of his soul into parts. It probably wouldnt be very effective anymore.
      I see Voldemort at the end of last movie pretty much similar to Voldemort in the 2nd movie - an incomplete man (this time with legs and arms) ...with 1/7th of his soul remaining maybe 1/7 of his power remaining which still makes him more powerful than average wizard, but not a super strong best of the best anymore. (plus hes having a wrong wand) - thats why teenage HP is able to duel him succesfully.

Narcissa gave her wand to Draco after he lost his one to Potter in duel. Draco lost his mom's wand too in the Room of Requirement, when it was caught on fire.

    I always thought it was weird that Griphook would demand the sword of Gryffindor as his price for helping them break into Gringotts. Surely a goblin would know the history of the sword and how it would definitely just peace out on him one day when a Gryffindor in need would unintentionally summon it.

    • @lmj2k
      @lmj2k Год назад +2

      I might need to re-read the books, but I don’t think goblins have any regard for what may be legend amongst wizards. Yes, the sword’s ability to appear to any worthy Gryffindor in need of it is actually true. However, goblins have their own version of the history of the sword. According to Griphook in the book, the sword belonged to Ragnuk the first, and it was stolen from him by Godric Gryffindor. We also learn in the books that goblin notions of ownership vary greatly from that of wizards. Hermione correctly said in the book that debating the issue with Griphook would not make him any more willing to help them.

      @@nottogood415 - That’s EXACTLY what it means with Snape. It is very much irrational and unjustified, but he does hate Harry. But his love for Lily and loyalty/obligation to Dumbledore overrode that. Dumbledore even specifically asks Snape if he had grown to care for Harry. Snape, in casting his patronus, showed who he truly cared for. That scene from the book.
      "So the boy...the boy must die?" asked Snape quite calmly.
      "And Voldemort himself must do it, Severus. That is essential."
      Another long silence. Then Snape said, "I thought...all those years...that we were protecting him for her. For Lily."
      "We have protected him because it has been essential to teach him, to raise him, to let him try his strength," said Dumbledore, his eyes still tight shut. "Meanwhile, the connection between them grows ever stronger, a parasitic growth. Sometimes I have thought he suspects it himself. If I know him, he will have arranged matters so that when he does set out to meet his death, it will truly mean the end of Voldemort."
      Dumbledore opened his eyes. Snape looked horrified.
      "You have kept him alive so that he can die at the right moment?"
      "Don't be shocked, Severus. How many men and women have you watched die?"
      "Lately, only those whom I could not save," said Snape. He stood up. "You have used me."
      "Meaning?"
      "I have spied for you and lied for you, put myself in mortal danger for you. Everything was supposed to be to keep Lily Potter's son safe. Now you tell me you have been raising him like a pig for slaughter--"
      "But this is touching, Severus," said Dumbledore seriously. "Have you grown to care for the boy, after all?"
      "For him?" shouted Snape. "Expecto Patronum!"
      From the tip of his wand burst the silver doe. She landed on the office floor, bounded once across the office, and soared out of the window. Dumbledore watched her fly away, and as her silvery glow faded he turned back to Snape, and his eyes were full of tears.
