It was a joy to find thid in my suggestions! 43 years ago, if you can believe it, I played Erroneous. I couldn't help but improvise the line, "Deus ex machina! My daughter!"
Over the years I have played every male role except for Marcus Lycus and Erroneous and have directed two productions. I am 72 years old at this writing and still hope to do those two roles before retiring.
Wow, this is phenomenal. I was only going to watch 5 minutes (as I'd heard about this Sondheim but never seen it). I ended up loving every minute of the whole show. The performances, costumes, direction, lighting, sound, set and props all were first class. I hope to see some of these people make a career out of acting in the future. It was so good! Thanks for sharing this.
@@Tentaclestudio1 thank you for your comment. Some of the cast actually have had success with making a career of acting and performing. However, it’s community theater and most of us are not going to quit our day jobs just yet.
How the .... where the.... I'm absolutely jealous. All these amazing, talented BOYS in a high school production. I simply cannot get them. Well done-- great show!!!
This is phenomenal! I LOVE this so much. The comedies and jokes are spot on, the singing is so good, the choreo is great! I really love that you guys decided to bring the comedies on next level and more modern (such as called Vibrata 'bad simba', made Gymnasia as bdsm-ish, and made Philia called Hero with weird name almost everytime) Kudos! ✨✨
@@feliceblanc527 I agree! We had a really amazing director. An interesting fact about our rehearsal process is that our director made us learn the final scene first because of how complicated it is with all of the entrances and exits that needed to be perfectly timed.
@@michaeliorg4980 I listened to this recording on daily basis religiously since it's so good! I lost it at 'Be brave Horacio!' 'Hero' 'Hero' brilliant!
What a GREAT production!! So glad I happened upon this! The acting is phenomenal as is the comic timing and acrobatics etc etc. Perfect! 😊 Just finished watching. Loved this. Singing was sensational by every character as was the acting. Bravo!
"Based on the book by Burt Shevelove and Larry Gelbart" is a funny double mis-statement! This 1962 musical has an original "book" -- i.e. scenario/story and dialogue -- by Shevelove and Gelbart, inspired by plot and character elements in the ancient Roman comedies of Plautus (c. 254-184 B.C.E.). And what happened to the "n" in "Sondheim"?
Hi Michael! I am a high school theatre teacher and we read/study Forum every year. This production is phenomenal! Is there any chance I could get a downloadable copy of this so I can show to my class for educational purposes? I really love showing the final scene after the funeral to let them see the physical comedy and blocking of how it all plays out. :)
OK, I see it was an "unfortunate oversight". Still, someone could have given it a once-over. Measure twice, cut once! I directed a production of it in 1984, when I was 25. It was almost the greatest fun I ever had in the theatre. Sondheim sent me a note to post in the makeup room on opening night. It said "Have fun with it, but not too much, or the audience won't." He made my cast feel special.
@@dogvom oh wow! What an amazing experience for you to have! When I was in this performance, it was only my fourth show in over 20 years, and only my second time editing something as big as this. Yeah, mistakes were made but I have learned from them. I made sure to rewrite the description of this video to start off with the writers of the book.
@@michaeliorg4980 Very good. About that... it shouldn't say "Based on the book by Burt Shevelove and Larry Gelbart, with music and lyrics by Stephen Sodheim, ..." but "With a book by Burt Shevelove and Larry Gelbart, and music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, ..." What the book of the musical is _based on_ is several plays by Plautus, the ancient Roman playwright. Also, as was mentioned in a comment below, you left an _n_ out of Sondheim in the description. Those things can easily be fixed. Cheers! Yes, Sondheim had been my mentor for three years when I directed Forum. As mentors do, he would critique my work as a theatre composer for several decades. The scores of three of my shows are in my YT channel if you're interested.

Great community production! Thanks!
Love this production. I've performed in Forum 3 times, as a Protean, as Hero and then (20 years later) as Senex. This is an exceptional version.

Michael Lorg are you in this production? I am really enjoying this video. Thank you!
@@KT-sq2ml sorry I just saw this comment. Yes I am in it! I am one of the proteans.
I did this play in high school (1988). I was Senex (Hero’s father). A funny character imo.
@@SugarplumMsX what a great character to play!
I've never seen this show before but I have to say that the cast is absolutely amazing. Thank you for an amazing introduction to a new show for me!
Saw this show a million years ago on broadway. Zero Mostel , Jack Guilford were in the cast it was great and still Is.
You are so lucky to have seen that with such an amazing cast!
I did too. My aunt took me as a kid.
My favorite musical! Outstanding performances all around!

Doesn't Senex do the second Act prologue?

Fun! Who are these folks! Where is the company from?
We mostly all live in Southern Utah. There is a pretty big theater community here filled with a lot of amazing local talent.
*How could you **_possibly_** leave "Book by Burt Shevelove and Larry Gelbart" out of the opening credits? Do you think the script just wrote itself?*
If you read the other comments, you’ll find the answer to your question.

Unreal... in the opening credits you list Sondheim for writing the score, BUT you do not list the author of the Book?????????
An unfortunate oversight. If this had been a professional recording, someone would have gotten fired for sure.
Bad staging... remember less is more.
Bad staging? With this musical, less is not really an option. Please enlighten me.
Sound is terrible
I agree. The sound definitely could be better. However, I’m happy that there is sound.
