This man is a national treasure! Doug needs to be recognized as one of the greats not because he's been in in the comedy game for decades, but because his shit is top shelf. I've yet to find any routine by Doug to be subpar.
Ah yes because no one brings him up in the conversation of the greats... This is only the second special of his I've seen after finally taking the plunge but even I, a retarded nobody, have heard his name get brought up for as long as I can remember when that convo came up.
So smart. At 24:30 Doug start to talks about the “euphemism treadmill.” It’s such a great take on how pop culture & the words we use get aggregated & how that effects how we speak. Real smart comedy from an interesting prospective.
Doug will be one the sickest but BEST COMICS IN THE WORLD. I saw him in Cincinnati several years ago, crushed it and glad I did se him. Not sure if you'll ever be back. Glad you stopped by.
@@michaelvaughn-walker5783 Joe Rogan just has a sort of mob mentality about comedy. Don't know if you were a fan of Ope & Ant, but listeners will remember he had this beef with Carlos Mencia that sort of brought out the worst in him in this regard... He's on such vastly different platforms in such vastly different roles, that he pretty much functions more as a hype-man than an arbiter of good comedy (or common sense, honestly). He did have a point though, people who steal jokes seem to just be allowed to get away with it, and people with a public presence should be encouraged to point it out when it occurs. Nobody else seems to do anything about it. Awesome and original set by Stanhope, as usual.
Screw Joe Rogan. His lies and conspiracy theories are FINALLY catching up with him. Sadly, he already got his $millions. He doesn't care. He was always an ass. Life seems to reward the a-holes.
I learned about Doug by listening Bill Burr monday morning podcast. Doug was a guest in one of the episodes. I can see where BB gets some of his inspiration, this is golden.
The camp 1 camp 2 gig really highlights his storytelling ability. The way he constructs a theme and makes you think around it is unprecedented outside of very few comedians. He also works towards the punchline phenomenally well when you're not expecting it by easing you into a conclusion with his slow and sloppy delivery.

It's a human "litmus test": provided the individual is NOT gaslighting you/seeking to ingratiate themselves with you by FEIGNING their INTEREST in ANY subject which is a PASSION for you...but a love of Stanhope REQUIRES a fucked up sense of humour AND knowledge of his work, which means it's easy to trip someone FAKING INTEREST as subtle references will sail over their heads. @@ofrenic Perhaps crime rates are especially high due to other societal factors in spite of high incarceration rates. Or perhaps it isn't a (good) deterrent, after all. Would that be due to prisons being too tough or not tough enough? How would you tell? Perhaps the intensity of the punishment is secondary, and more focus should be drawn towards rehabilitative measures instead. The idea that prison _should be a punishment_ is at best incomplete. Doug is the best of the best. The only reason he isn't a massive mainstream success like.. oh let's say.. Every second of this is gold. Doug is my spirit animal. I still think his version of ‘The Aristocrats’ is the pinnacle of comedy.
He was in "The Aristocrats"?
I couldn't get past Gilbert's rendition.
I wasn't aware he did a take on the Aristocrats joke. I paused this to check it out and I'm ridiculously glad I did. So thank you for that 🤩✌
