- So this, our latest episode was supposed to be of Mist being launched. She is now back in the water, but we decided to show you this video that we made the other day instead.
A number of people suggested that we collaborated with the Bumbling Sailor, and we're very pleased you did.
We got together and sailed Demetrius, Terry's Contessa 26 for a few hours a day over a sunny bank holiday weekend.
This video is but a small and poor showing of the topics we covered in that time. We hope you enjoy.

Thanks for the lesson given. Try and convince him to circumnavigate the UK first to get the feel of it. Wouldn’t want to loose such a gem of a chap.
Looking at the latest videos, I think that at least half of the UK will be seen before further travels. Looks like he’s enjoying it all so far 👍
Excellent! The Bumbler's great, he's further ahead on the same course as me . . . . but I do worry a little. We'll both need to keep a very close eye on the weather forecasts, and pray the engine starts!
Knowing that you need to go that makes you a sailor already. We all watch the forecasts like hawks no matter how far along our sailing journey we are

When I used to sail dinghies some 30 years ago, I was taught to tac by saying "Ready about" "ready" "coming about" Lee Ho just doesn't sound right but is clearly the correct terminology. Great video
I didn’t like the silly words when I was teaching myself. So my crew and I used to say coffee pot to signal tacking, and wibble meant ready 🤣🤣

🤣the life jacket discussion was had aboard. Very light winds, lots of people about, but the jacket was very close by if conditions changed.

well done im going to need help like that i did dingy sailing years ago but id love a little blue water boat
Dinghy sailing is a great way to start. You cannot go wrong starting that way at all
@@sailingmist i did it for years between the ages 8 to 15 i want complete freedom to explore and a boats a great of doing that especially if it has sails lol
There’s no better vehicle for it. Unless it’s on land, then a board pretty poor 🤣

Lovely bit of collaboration. Was it the lack of wind or camera angle, the foot looked pretty loose on both reefs to me. Could the little reefing cars be moved aft a bit to tighten the foot on the reefs? Usually want a flat sail when reefed as it will be quite windy.
Nice spot! The reefed main definitely had more depth than the deep end of a diving pool. Terry is looking at changing the system more than just a bit though.
Would life jackets been appropriate on such an epic adventure?
I guess in corporate world it could be said that we carried out our risk assessment, and given the conditions etc. We felt that we would have them ready, but not to where them. Should the conditions of become different then they would have been thrown on. without question.
Will Lesson 2 be about fitting a life-jacket?

He needs to let the jib backwind before he pulls sheet
I think that is boat specific, but could be wrong. On Denetrius the headsail overlaid the mast and shrouds, so in backing the headsail in a tack the spreader could puncture the leach of the sail
Do you travel to give lessons?
Would love to, but the reality of working life means that it will never happen
He knows nothing..Not buying.
He has done a bucket load of reading and RUclips watching. Seemed pretty straight to me
