Those "other" hiker folks that put out these videos make it look clean and perfect weather etc. yours a real demonstration of both kit and trail.

Most of what we get fed in the US is London, the city stuff, it's always a thrill for me to see actual landscapes (and not just Big Ben and the Palace) this is gorgeous! thank you for sharing
I was looking for my first long distance hike and this video inspired me to give this one a try. I completed it over the August bank holiday and loved it. I had the same camping problem as you on the last night and camped near to where you did, but in some scrub behind trees, screened from the path. Traffic noise all night was a pain though! I really enjoy your videos, many thanks!

I really like this video. I could hear the sound of the horse eating the grass. I like that the video sort of captures your changes in mood along with the interesting places you pass through.
Well I really enjoyed going on that trip with you . I'm just getting started hiking and camping. I'm 60 years old but I'm having a blast and guys like you have been my inspiration . Thank you for allowing me to come along with you. Dwayne

Thank you for your videos, I'm getting to see a side of England that I never would have seen. Can't wait to go back and do some of these hikes. Oh, I also switched from my vasque hiking boots to Altra Lone Peak shoes. My back and feet are much happier.
Great video Paul, i walked part of the Heritage way last year and really enjoyed it, where you camped on your last nights camp looked to be quite close to the Lawn farm.from what i remember. As an idea You will have to try the Dales way next, its the 50th year of the dales way this year. Top video Paul.
The Dales Way is on my list. We walked a little section a month ago. You are spot on with my camp location. hence my early exit. It was nice and flat though haha. Thanks for watching. Best wishes Paul
This is so inspiring. So much of beautiful England and it’s history to see for free as you go along. So many exciting and adventurous weekends you can have for next to nothing (apart from ones initial kit lay out) This route is a godsend as my best mate lives in Froggatt and I have another close friend who lives in Sawley just a mile or so further on from Long Eaton so I’d have a bed for the night at one end and a bed for the night at the other. I would probably reduce my daily miles and preplan my camp sites though. Give me more recuperation time between days. Great video.
Not seen this one before. One of your best imho. Love your solo stuff. The Peak District has that amazing ability to be remote and beautiful one minute and urbanised confusion the next. Was with you when you were panicking about finding somewhere to camp. Video quality is amazing. Keep your channel going you have lots of supporters. Didn't realise you were a Sheffield lad.
If you're looking for pain free footwear, have a look at AKU boots. They don't really seem to have taken off in the UK that much, but they're the only ones I'll buy now, pain free from first wear, and never had a blister. Combined with HJ Hall Protek socks gives really comfortable walking.
A thoroughly enjoyable watch. If you wild camp just short of the next town and maybe head off the trail then you can stroll into civilisation next morning for breakfast. A very informative video. Atb Chris
my longest sort of hiking stint was for my DofE when I went from Birling Gap to Alfriston. It was pretty good, ended up walking up and down the Severn Sisters and had lunch up there too
Not even half way through. Already I am thinking this is one of the best videos I have watched on You Tube. I started watching your videos as Im thinking of doing a bit of bike packing on my ebike. Have been watching you for kit advice............. but one thing my friend you make a bloody good film
Nice one Paul, the part where you complained about your legs and going up stairs in Belper was just about in my back garden, if I’d have known you could have camped over at mine LOL, where you ended up that night wasn’t ideal as you get some dodgy people going along there at times, me included on my bike 😂 me and @marktayloroutdoors did part of that route last year and you made it look easy! Great video but this doesn’t give you a full feeing of just how far it is, there’s not enough pain face 😂 💪👍 looking forward to the next one.

Well done Paul. That's a good few miles under your belt with the light pack. I like the little villages and the old industrial buildings. Interested to see what kit worked and what didn't. I feel your pain with the aches and blisters. Can't do any serious hiking now without knee supports and poles. It won't stop me though....😉👣👣 Excellent watch as always mate. Dint know you were a Sheffield lad too ! That quilt looks amazing and more my idea of a good sleep as I’m not built for mummy bags. Thanks for the video. Saw lots of my old stomping ground 👍🏻 Uncle used to live in Darley Dale, right up the hillside.
I tell you what I do on my river walks Paul if coming into a town or decent village - I head for the sports pavilions or the church porch. I love to doss sometimes and it saves pitching. I let this one roll whilst squatting. Very enjoyable. Mark
I have just watched this Paul excellent video fills me with great expectations of trying to enter into my first camping trip I have slowly built up the gear just need to get myself a decent rucksack thank you very much Phill
Loved this! For a more enjoyable experience I recommend picking up the White Peak Loop at Rowsley and following it all the way in to Matlock - it avoids having to walk along the A6 but still passes close to the Square and Compass at Darley Bridge for beer and/or camping.
What a great video. Showing exactly what people miss by staying indoors instead of getting outdoors and seeing what Britain has to offer. Maybe you should think about doing a round Britain trip ???
Great video Paul. I’m thinking of doing some long distance walking trails like this. They will make a nice change from the hills. Wild camp, campsite or B+B. I guess keeping the pack as light as possible still applies to keep the enjoyment. Like the sponge idea too The dams at the beginning are where the Dambusters practiced for their famous raid in WW2 - there is a small museum To them ( only open sundays I think ?) thought you would have mentioned that ? Keep ‘em coming
I've been up those cable cars a couple of years ago. They were a lot of fun, if you don't mind heights. I also went in the cotton mill. Definetely recommend visiting the area to anyone who hasn't been.
I've loved your channel ever since I discovered it over 6 months ago, thanks for making a really good variety of content... and its great to see what 'bushwalking' looks like in the UK 😄
There’s only one Paul Messner! Class mate! Going myself soon probably across brecon maybe lake langorse to the five waterfalls! First hike so hopefully a good one! Cheers for the motivation 👌
Fantastic video paul.......plus you walked down wyver Lane where I used to play in the woods as a child in Belper, love watching your stuff, keep it up mate👍👍
Was meant to be doing the coast to coast end of May but looks likely will have to push it back and try for September time. This looks a great training walk for something that is longer distance, loved on your final nights camp you said you shouldn’t really be there but still got in some time to do gear reviews in the morning!
Great video and trail Paul. Nice filming and good chat. Glad you didn’t knock it on the head on the second night and kept going. Ive got both OS and Viewranger, I find there are pros and cons to both. That quilt looked really good too. Quite fancy that👍
A great few days hiking mate , rattled some miles in the first day . It looks a really nice hike that Heritage way . A bit of stealth camping was the order of the day No2 . The pack looked really comfortable and light atb Dave...
Well thank god for the Square & Compass mate, they turned up trumps... I really enjoyed this mate, had to watch in parts mind you, but a real cracking video that I will defo watch again this weekend on my TV... Stealth camp as well, good job you found somewhere, but still had the back up of a friend to rescue you... I love Matlock Bath been a few times, it's interesting to hear about the old Cotton Mill... You didn't seem to keen on the cable cars, lol... That's a great walk that, not too long either, but I think you need to look at the coast to coast next, then I can see if I fancy it... ;) Nice one Paul...
This is a very nice descriptive video showing all the nicely manicured walkways and historic villages that make for an enjoyable stroll through the British countryside. Very nicely presented Paul. Its the sort of image that many of us from the Antipodes would expect to see when we venture to the mother land (Scotland for me- 5 generations back) which I hope won't be too long away. Paul a young bloke like you shouldn't be needing painkillers on such a pleasant hike your doing here. Blisters!! Mate the next time you buy a pair of hiking boots/shoes try wearing 2 pairs of heavy quality Merino woolen socks to the shop. You look quite restricted in your gait when viewed from behind. It appears your boots are far too tight and your feet need to be held in place by a couple of layers of woolen socks and not by the structure of your boots. Personal advice from over 55 years of daily work and hiking boot wear. A double layer of wool helps stop your feet sweating and becoming soft, hence blisters, but of course everyone has a different foot shape.
Great vid mate! Looking forward to a few hikes and canal boat trips in the UK. Chartered a canal boat in southern France a few years ago, and that was a great trip. The midlands canals look just as interesting to me.
Quite local this one for me, your end point is indeed the Derwent meeting the Trent, If you had gone the other way down the Trent it also meets the River Soar. I live on a boat just down the Soar and have canoed round to and up the Derwent a few miles.
Nice video Paul & well done on the challenge. Start in the peaks one of my favourites did the Edale circuit couple of weekends ago & Curbar edge always a good destination for a quick 10miler. Not sure about tabbing through Derby though! Good to see how your kit worked out. Look forward to the next one.

Great channel, really enjoy that you are just being you 👍🏻
Thanks for watching. Best wishes Paul
What an epic hike! Really enjoyed watching your video. Thanks for making the effort! 👍
Excellent video sir! That’s a great watch ! Inspiring! Well done you for getting out there! That was a lot of miles on day 1!!
It's quite a lot carrying a pack but worth the effort. Thanks for watching. Best wishes Paul
Brilliant video thanks Paul
Nice one Paul. Looking forward to the next one.
Thanks for watching. Best wishes Paul
Fantastic video paul.......plus you walked down wyver Lane where I used to play in the woods as a child in Belper, love watching your stuff, keep it up mate👍👍
You started where I went horse riding and ended where I went boating. So many happy weekends.
Quite fancy that👍
Great video Paul, loved seeing an area of the world I most likely will never get to visit.
A great few days hiking mate , rattled some miles in the first day . It looks a really nice hike that Heritage way . A bit of stealth camping was the order of the day No2 . The pack looked really comfortable and light atb Dave...
Really happy with the kit I took Dave. May need to look at some new footwear though. Thanks for watching. Best wishes Paul
Another nice video Paul, thank you. I enjoyed it.
Thanks for watching Ian. Best wishes Paul
Well done Paul mate good going and enjoyed watching your video as always from start to finish 👍👍👍
Glad you liked it Samuel. Thanks for watching. Best wishes Paul
That was a great hike Paul. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Thanks for watching. Best wishes Paul
Great vid mate! Looking forward to a few hikes and canal boat trips in the UK. Chartered a canal boat in southern France a few years ago, and that was a great trip. The midlands canals look just as interesting to me.
really enjoyed this paul you should do more of these multi day hikes !
Quite local this one for me, your end point is indeed the Derwent meeting the Trent, If you had gone the other way down the Trent it also meets the River Soar. I live on a boat just down the Soar and have canoed round to and up the Derwent a few miles.
Cheers Paul a nice video - I look forward to the next.
Glad you enjoyed it Terry
Absolutely stunning trail!
Well done, thanks for sharing.
Brilliant video Paul well done 55 miles walk nice one great views on the way enjoyed the video take care
Cheers Andrew. Thanks for watching. Best wishes Paul
The first 2 days were definitely the more picturesque. Thanks for watching. Best wishes Paul
