    Wish it was still like this. The way they danced was much more elegant.

    Back when they shook hands. We should start that up again as dancers it is very nice and shows good sportsmanship!

    Back when set dances actually had trebles instead of a minute of toe stands and jumps lol

    I love this even better than todays I think the steps were better and the dresses superb Irish culture at its best.

      Much more feminine and beautiful compared to today where it feels more like a gymnastic event than a dance?

      The Americans turned Irish Dance into their sick kids' beauty pageants.
      I also prefer the old dresses, real hair und much less make-up.
      Nowadays the dancers look like (mini-)drag queens.

    i also think its really cool that there was an african american girl doing it back then. Now it is very multicultural but apparently it was farther back too. Its wonderful to see.

      Yes I agree I'm also a non-caucasian Irish dancer myself, and I especially love to see videos like this💗People seem to forget that Morgan Bullock is not the first "black" irish dancer...

    Is that Jean Butler (probably not) @ 3:10 with the green dress/lace collar and red hair?

  • @janettedavis6627
    @janettedavis6627 2 года назад +1

    Absolutely splendid Irish culture at its best.
    This type of Irish dancing and dress should have been done at the Queens Platinum Jubile instead of the very short matching knickers that the dancers were wearing and the silly ballet leg throws . What was presented to the Queen as Irish culture was disrespectful to many Irish. The dresses were so short their bums were showing. Not a nice respectful presentation of Irish culture.

    It's fascinating to see how it's changed so quickly. Even better, this is shortly before Eurovision, where that change took off. The beginning of the end of relative stagnation compared to almost exponential growth.

    Traditional Irish dance costumes with celtic designs. Todays dresses some are very questionable to be Irish dance costumes.

      Deni when Mothers like me hand embroidered solo and team costumes all through our daughters careers and curled their hair with sponge rollers.

    Because they read out the scores judge by judge first, and most people write them down as they announce them, so if she won by a long way it would have been pretty obvious who won.

    Not sure who would have the old ladies world trophy, but the one shown here was donated by my father all those years ago. I wonder if it's been replaced by something else and if so, where is it now?

  • @Designed2BeMe

    When announcing the winner why did he say "I'm sure you've already guessed?"

    • @ramywiles
      @ramywiles 4 года назад

      Seven whole years later, lol... my guess would be that the point distribution made the winner obvious, because the points are read out. Grainne Feely also won multiple Worlds, so it might have been fair to assume she'd win again -- though generally the announcers don't make opinion statements like that.
