my mom surprised me by picking me up at school at lunch. she picked me up and we bought a dreamcast with NFL and NBA 2k. I was able to spend the rest of the day playing before my brother and sister were out of school. I was probably 10 and would swear I couldn't differentiate this game from reality. ha! graphics were crazy!
Man these were the got damn days !!!!! I had all the consoles I had all the video games thanks to my parents ! The sega Dreamcast and this game was amazing ! I remember me and my dad sitting down for hours playing this game.
I remember when this game first came out. Went to my cousin's and he was playing it on his Dreamcast. All I really knew was NBA Live at the time. I saw this game on the TV and my eyes damn near popped out of my head. At the time the graphics, gameplay and animations were revolutionary. Even by today's standards they're not bad.
Yep growing up w NBA from bulls vs blazers to NBA live 95 this game was mind blowing...really showed 2k is nothing to mess w and EA wasnt the only sports game company like we all believed at that time! Sometimes I'd rather play this than the simulation bs now! Its a game suppose to be fun!!
@@user-ow3jl5dp5o yea ur 100% right live95 was the standard, nba shootout for ps1 was great too...but nba 2k was another monster, I couldn't believe what I was seeing
1999 I got my DC and played this game and compared to NBA live 95, 96. and 98...my god. I feel sorry for the kids today they'll never experience a graphical jump like that in their life time lol. 2K was the smoothest sports game for its time. It felt like butter. Cheering crowd, refs that moved around, lights shining off the hardwood.
Nah it actually looks good for a late nineties game to me. Dreamcast was actually the most powerful console in its generation. Sad that it failed and SEGA isn’t making consoles anymore.
It looks bad to me not because it's an old game, but because he claims it's HD but took a composite video signal and poorly scaled it to the 1080p canvas.
The first 2k that changed it all..the “Bulls vs” games started it...NBA Live took a few levels higher with 95 and 96...then came 2k for the Dreamcast and the rest is history.
I had this game back in 2000 along with UFC virtual athlete 2k and shenmue it was one of my favorites, the graphics at the time were absolutely incredible
The gameplay and graphics in SEGA NBA 2K 1999 on SEGA DREAMCAST is absolutely mindblowing for its time! NBA 2K24 should've take notes of this example from NBA 2K and 2K1....😢
Bruvvvv the dreamcast has the best graphics for being an old console. I'd say it's almost equal to gamecube just slightly below. But still so crazy how powerful it was. I wish i had one now :'( as a kid to experience first hand.
Its the upload trust me watch this, this is how great it looked back in 1999 if played on the dream cast with a vga monitor.....notice the insane difference to this, this is how well the game truly holds up even now.ruclips.net/video/TG-iL0SVhac/видео.html
@@dannymadness1382 No, that's emulator that polishes the graphics and makes it 60fps. We didn't run 60fps at 4k graphics wheen the game can out. Matter a fact 4k wasn't even really a thing back then nor was 60fps.
I loved this game growing up!!!!!! I had a sega Dreamcast and my favorite teams on here was the Minnesota Timberwolves and Philadelphia 76ers!!!!!!!! KG and A.I. was beasts on here!!!! But deep in my heart, I played with The Lakers a few times… S/O to the legends, Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal!!!! R.I.P. Black Mamba! We miss you!!!! 💯
I think this was the first NBA game on a console to have all NBA arenas rendered as opposed to just generic arenas. NBA Live 2000 only had one arena for every team and while NBA Jam 99 on N64 had two or three different arenas, they weren't actual renderings of the real-world arenas (tho, I think one was clearly influenced by the Delta Center, which isn't a surprise since Iguana West, which would become Acclaim salt Lake City, was located in Salt Lake. It's why Dan Roberts, the PA announcer for the Jazz, also did the PA announcing in both NBA Jam 99 and 2000).
@NickelodeonRewind2 Kind of. I use a 480P capture device from the dreamcast. then I convert the video to 1080P with Windows movie maker. this makes it so youtube keeps the quality. my videos look as close to a Dreamcast on a VGA box can look on youtube.
Shout out to the boys from the bay Bob Fitzgerald the play by play announcer for the warriors and my boy Rod Brooks from KNBR coming together and making the sportscasting duo for the original 2k. I miss the Fitz & Brooks show!
The AI in this game is absolutely bonkers. They're always throwing the ball out of bounds, prefer dunks over layups, jittering back and forth... but that's part of the late 90s charm. It makes the games a lot more fun to watch.
Wouldn’t it be cool that in 2K25 they make a mode called “classic mode” where you play this version and it’s running on an in-game emulator. Kinda like Sonic generations’ genesis. Some people would probably buy 2k25 just for that (I’m serious people would buy it no matter what).
I remember playing this and being addicted. I had this game figured out so much that i could score 200 points in a game. (you just camped out when they were putting the ball in play...it was so easy to steal) I remember playing this game a couple years later and it was unplayable because of the camera. It would literally go up when you were faking a shot LOL. It was like playing the old mario 64...I was just so used to the camera not being fucking shit that I couldn't get past it.
I just watched a NBA Live 99 on PS1 video before this and it's incredible how much improved the graphics and game play looked in less then a year. My neighbor had a Dreamcast when I was a kid and I remember trying to play it all the time but it would freeze up a lot and couldn't move to close or step to close to it bc it would skip or freeze up. Then when the PS2 came out a year later we totally forgot about the Sega Dreamcast.
my mom surprised me by picking me up at school at lunch. she picked me up and we bought a dreamcast with NFL and NBA 2k. That’s such a nice present from your mom! You must have been mad happy.
Simple times like that dont happen as an adult sadly
That’s a great memory brotha, thanks for sharing!
Bro it’s nuts how you look T the graphics now and they don’t look to great but at the time I def thought it resembled actual Tv
That's awesome! moments like that will never be forgotten.
Crazy the gameplay back then was smoother then it is now
Young kids will never know
Lol that's going a little far my guy...no way you can compare this to 2k24 on the ps5
@KingNez89 gameplay my man not graphics
Real ogs know

The commentators in NBA 2K 1999 also are on point like Nba 2k16 team commentary.

And now is dead... RIP
That just shows you how long he played this was a long time ago and he came in 4 years before that! Thats a long career for sure RIP
he looks like andre iguodala here and his biceps
@GFL13 Yeah but every player needs to retire at some point. It's just natural. But he had a great career before he left and retired.
Nba 2k used to be a great series...hell all 2k games were great...anyone else remember when they used to be $20...good times
I remember when I got a dream Cast, I had never seen anything like it before. Crazy Taxi!

This is probably the Best basketball simulation game of all time.
NBA Showtime on NBC is the best arcade basketball of all time

The first 2K that came out. And till this day, Iverson still holds the record as being the only player to feature on the 2K cover the most.
