Walther's concertos after the Italian masters are timelessly great

Doesn't look like Biggs. Wish we could see closer. Glad they caught his cat! (Should include Scarlatti's "Cat's Fugue" in this recording.)

Excellent playing, E. Power Biggs. Perhaps a little bit too metallic of a sound for me...Even though not as sonorous as this one, a true wooden instrument is more enjoyable to me.

This one had a soundboard of anodized aluminium and channel brass bridges. The later instruments of John Challis were incredibly stable, but they sound, well, metallic! And given the sheer inconvenience of tuning this kind of pedal harpsichord (the upper instrument needed to be lifted off in order to access the tuning pins for the pedal, one can sympathise with wanting maximum stability!
