Anybody calling Isiah Thomas "average" is a straight up clown.
I.T. is possibly the second greatest Point Guard of all-time, after Magic Johnson.
In fact, a case can be made that Isiah is the greatest 'pure' Point Guard, if you take into consideration that Magic Johnson was more of a Unicorn/Freak type of PG being six feet ten inches, which isn't normal at all. And I'm saying this as a Celtics fan 💯

Isiah Thomas was always better than Magic; better leadership and defense; if Magic was 6'1" 180lb. and Thomas was 6'9" 210-220, no way Isiah Thomas would have lost 4 times in the Finals, come on. Magic couldn't defend but he was great in every other aspect, just wasn't better than Thomas, he saw the court well but that's it, put him at 6'1" those Lakers don't even get to the Finals 9 times. Kareem, Worthy, Wilks, Haywood, McAdoo, A.C. Green, Michael Thompson, Norm Nixon/Scott, and you cannot forget Michael Cooper who held it down because it was easy work for Chicago to dominate the Lakers without Cooper and Kareem in '91, easy work, all Phil Jackson had to do is make one adjustment. Meanwhile it took Isiah Thomas handing over '91 to the Bulls to let them win, that's another story.

@@redriderbbgun8018 Disagree: It's okay if you disagree. I just break down players in a certain way. I look at individually their abilities. I don't say a guy who is 6'9" 220 like Magic playing the point guard position is the same as a guy 6'1" 180lb. playing the point guard position because that would be like Kareem being guarded by a 2 guard his entire career talking about how great he is offensively. You see? Magic playing the power forward or small forward position throughout his career, it wouldn't work for him with him being 'as good' as he was at the point guard spot. Now people point to when he was a rookie and won MVP but remember, that was one game and the guys around him were great but Magic in the 80's playing power forward or small forward, that would have been his natural position so defensively he couldn't hang; he could barely hang at the point guard spot, what he even said he did was push you to the help and play solid help defense but that was his weakness. Yes, Magic was a great leader but he had the most talent around him.
See, look at Magic in 1990-91, why did he lose? He should have won had he been as great as listed. He lost in the 2nd round without Kareem in 1990 vs. Phoenix. Come on? That having years of experience under his belt, so you see how Bird changed that Celtics' team from 1979 to 1980 from 20 wins to 60 wins and to the ECF. Magic went to a title-contending team and Bird didn't have McHale or Parish when he was a rookie but when he got help, he won in a tougher conference.
Isiah was physically tougher, smarter, better defensively on and off the ball, could jump higher, see the court as well or better than Magic, better off-the-dribble, better handles, had greater perseverance, and had more fight in him. Plus, look at how Thomas competed against Bird and Jordan vs. how Magic competed against both. Thomas had to go through those two along with a young Hawks team just as good during his day to even get to the Finals. Magic only really faced Houston in '81 and '86 and that was Moses Malone in '81 and Hakeem/Sampson in '86 and those guys didn't win with Malone in '83 and Hakeem in '94, so that competition wasn't as great vs. Magic but when he faced Isiah, they had to cheat in '88 with Thomas being injured and then vs. Jordan he got humiliated in '91. So, come on.

@@plainsimple244 Some of your points are fair, but you're basically tearing down Magic Johnson the player, in order to boost Isiah. I don't know how old you are, but I grew up watching all those players (maybe you did too?) and I'm telling you Magic was a transformative player. He could play any position on the court, had incredible full-court vision, his anticipatory skills were completely off the charts, and other than Bill Russell, there has never been a player in the N.B.A. with his size that could run like that. There's a reason the Lakers went to 10 Finals, and it wasn't because of an aging Kareem or 3 & D guys like Coop & Scott, it was because of Magic. And I'm saying this as a Celtic fan. Isiah was an incredible talent, one of the best....but if I'm starting a team tomorrow with any NBA player of my choice, the list is small: Bill Russell, Magic, Wilt or Jordan.

@@redriderbbgun8018 Fair/Point Guards: I was looking at the top 2 or top 5 point guards and comparing what people say 1. Magic and 2. Isiah, so you have to break down what they do well vs. what they don't do well in comparison, so yes, you are going to 'tear down' what both don't do well. It's just that they both see the court greatly and vastly but Thomas has more heart and fight; their intelligence on the court, I'd have to give the advantage to Thomas because Thomas had less talent and greater competition and won more and what needed to happen in '88 for Magic to win combined with Thomas was a better coach and a better general manager in how to go about building a team; point guard wise, Thomas can both hold his own and beat Magic at the same time, so I have to give the edge to Thomas. When it came to competition against both Jordan and Bird, Thomas out-weighs Magic in comparison in playing against those two more and Thomas defeating them more than they beat him, now Magic beat Bird 2-1 but couldn't beat Jordan when it was just Magic, no Kareem, who got the call in '88 against Laimbeer; they lost in the 2nd round in 1990 having 63 wins; Thomas never led a team to 60 plus wins and didn't make it to the Finals or underachieved. So this is what I look at, not in who I like or don't like; I only compare what happened and I look at the competition and the physical attributes in how those attributes can make it easier due to genetics, which, if I apply that to a player lesser-than, I have to give that lesser-than player genetically the same advantage to make things equal and then compare them: For example, if Jordan wasn't as athletic but 6'1" 180lb., he would have never won. You see? The skills of leading a team as a franchise player, regardless of position, take away that athleticism and size, what do you have? Centers are easier to compare because they are all 7'0" so then it's about moves and leadership. Guards/small forwards as franchise guys you compare size for size and ability for ability. Magic is 100% better than Penny Hardaway and if Kobe Bryant wasn't 6'7" he would not be a good player. I point out ability vs. ability. Now you can compare Drexler vs. Jordan and Jordan is 100% better than Drexler. Thomas beat them both handedly, so how great is Isiah Thomas? Took injuries for Thomas to lose to Magic in '88 and Jordan in '91. See? Magic is better than Drexler and Penny Hardaway as well as Michael Ray Richardson and Kobe Bryant. Just not better than Isiah Thomas.
Break Down: For the record I was born in the 70's, grew up on 80's basketball, I know how great Magic is but I'm looking at him breaking down his game. When you break down Thomas' game, he was, at times, too tight mentally to the point where he made mistakes and had to learn how to control the game; Magic had better patience in the half court set and played chess earlier on his game than Thomas but Thomas could impact the game with his offensive game, Magic had to more so use the pieces around him to break the game down because he had more talent earlier which could guide him into success. See, this is why having experience in winning from 1980-1984, 2 titles, 2 Finals MVP's and what happened? Getting swept in '83 and choking like that vs. Boston with those mistakes in '84, Magic DID NOT have to go through THE GRIND of learning HOW to win early like Isiah Thomas. See, this is the same thing with Kobe Bryant, he was guarded and protected earlier like Magic and this is why he never really learned HOW to win without Phil Jackson in that triangle offense, so when I break down Bryant's game, it's incomplete when it came to winning because he never learned how to do something without an already established platform. Drexler is better than Kobe and there's no comparison between Kobe and Jordan because Jordan could lead his team to the ECF without Phil and less talent; Kobe could not even have his team making the playoffs without Phil having championship experience. So when you look at Magic vs. Isiah in comparison, Magic was protected, which is why Bird got more respect individually as an MVP and rookie of the year as MVP from 1984-1986 but Magic had LESS responsibility at 6'9" because Bird at 6'9" had to do everything Magic did but had to stay out of foul trouble and rebound defending the top small forwards in the league while being consistent scoring but Magic had a mismatch every single night at the point guard spot with a deep HOF front court, you see? Bird won with two different point guards in Archibald, Dennis Johnson and two different head coaches in Bill Fitch and KC Jones. See? You look at what someone has and take away the 'protection' they had not using it as an advantage.
Wild Comparisons: I do think Magic, had he been in Detroit instead of Isiah Thomas, it would have been interesting to see HOW or IF Detroit would have won sooner? It would have possibly changed HOW Detroit drafted their front court. I do think Thomas in Los Angeles would have won more, just different in HOW to do about something. I just don't think Isiah Thomas would have lost 4 NBA Finals had he been with the Los Angeles Lakers from 1981-82 to 1993-94.
Starting A Team: Oh, I agree with you concerning starting a team but guess what? Magic was 'added' to the Lakers; Detroit 'started' a team with Isiah Thomas. The Lakers were NOT rebuilding when they got Magic, the rest of the guys were there already in place. The Lakers were 47-35 in 1978-79 and got Magic as #1; in 1980 they were 60-22, so that's 13 games better. Isiah, in 1980-81, the Pistons were 21-61 and with Thomas as a rookie they were 39-43, that's an 18-game improvement by Thomas, still without a championship front court. Remember, Kareem, one of the guys to start a team with, Jamaal Wilks, Norm Nixon and Cooper -- so come on, Thomas didn't have 3 guys in his rookie year who could hold it down and didn't come to a playoff team. HAHAHA

Some people want you to spell certain things out for them & I don’t understand why people are mad at Grant Hill for doubling down and emphasizing why Jaylen was not selected so you can come to the conclusion that you already have arrived at.
Grant basically letting everyone know the reason is bs, but he can’t come out and say it.
