Attended Reno 2021 and met Steve Henry and Josh Richling in the pits. They were engaging and kind enough to spend a lot of time explaining the Just SuperSTOL and modifications. STOL Drag is now my favorite event and am thankful for the time they invested to create another STOL Drag fan. Thanks to both men!
Great video, i love seeing the intensity and focus on Steves face as he flys in the race. Man...it happens fast and close to the ground. They make it look easy.
I absolutely love STOL drags. I am on my way, give me a couple-ish years Steve and I am coming for you! And that Gold Chanpionship! Absolutely great race and great airmanship. Much respect!
Steve! I and I'm sure everyone here truly enjoyed watching your Bush 🏁 race you are an exceptional pilot with amazing talent and got that itch for speed and talented take offs lands and the very quick turn around you have 😀 I'm in aviation school at aims Colorado and have been welding in the oil field for almost 10 years I personally believe I'll have over 2 years tell I'll be licensed and DeGREeD as an aviation beginner and soon I will need to get many of hours flying to build up to the commercial card I wanna get a ways u and Trent are awesome and are my idols and I truly hope to see u guys flying out out and about sometime flying cowboy 🤠 out
How does selling kit planes work? Like can any Joe Blow make a kit plane and sell it with the 49-51 completion rule? or do kit planes need to certified?
Woa ha ha! that was close! But ya knew Steve had a target on his back and someone was gunnin to get him eventually. Exciting racing! Good job everyone!!!
Great flying/racing! I was pretty bummed - my first time to watch STOL drags and it happened to be on Saturday when things were cancelled due to winds. Oh well, I'll just have to attend another event!
The first time I watched it, I thought Steve red-lighted on Race 2. But after watching several more times, I think he just beat Toby off the line, fair and square. Really great stuff. Congratulations to all!
Maybe time for a Haltech ECU and tweaking the wastegate settings. They do two stage nitrous maps as well. Also could use E85 Ethanol fuel with a flex fuel sensor.
I've had the privelege of flying with steve in one of his rocket ships. I can still hear and feel that plane when i watch this video. Can't wait to build one.
Planes look dead even Toby's looks to be a hair faster but Steve looks to be the better pilot..So it basically comes down to who stops and turns the quickest.. Looks like adding beta will be next modification..Looks like these are the guy's who set the standards from here on out..The pioneers..Would have liked of seen how Scrappy compares..Hopefully Mike will jump in at some point.. Great racing boys!!
@@SteveHenry BTW, if you're running N2O anyway, you could probably reduce lag by reducing the amount of boost that you're running, then use the N2O system to make up for the lost power. IIRC, you could even use a 2-stage N2O system to give you a little extra when you need a quick boost. You might also look into using an electronic wastegate.
No I have an Edge Performance Yamaha 1000 cc four stroke, four cylinder turbo charged engine. Toby has a Kawasaki 1500 cc four stroke, four-cylinder supercharged engine with plenty of Nitrous.
Thank you so much for rooting for me!! As with most things there is more to this sport than meets the eye. Having the right prop and having it pitched correctly is definitely one of them.
Man!! That is some EXTREME flying especially as viewed from the cockpit! Great job Sara, Steve, and Toby!
If you want to see more wild flying go on RUclips and search for Dead stick take off. Steve steps up flying to a whole new level.
Wow, I didn't know I could hold my breath that long. Congratulations to both of you!

What an awesome set of races. Just as fun to rewatch as it was to see on the livestream! Thanks for sharing, Steve!!
A great competitor, a great ambassador, and a great innovator for the sport! Such a great week of flying! Solid work!!!

Autmotive? lol
Me too! I also would love to compete in the STOL competitions in a few years time. It would be real cool if there was an ultralight/part 103 class.
@@danhillman4523 yeah, I used to broker classic cars and I still use the email.
@@SteveHenry Very cool. Does anyone run a reversible thrust constant speed prop to help slow down? Especially useful on the ground one would think?
Loved every second of it, thanks for sharing and making this segment of flying so exciting!
Great race, you two are pushing the sport forward by leaps and bounds.
Well that was freaking intense, great flying to the both of you!
Super fun to watch. This event is here to stay!
thank you! -Sara
Great to see two rather different techniques leading to ALMOST the same result! Sweet racing!
Wow, amazing races and competition! Great editing, Sara! So much fun.
Spectating at Reno was my first STOL drag of many to come! Fantastic!
That was close, thanks for sharing and giving us onboard view as well. Fascinating with such different aircraft and styles.
Best race bare none all week. Fantastic flying boys. You guys stole the show.
Thanks for posting! Awesome flying! It’s good to see you finally have some real competition!
Fantastic flying and a lot of fun to watch two very evenly matched aircraft and pilots doing their best. Well done!
That looks INTENSE!!👌
It is extremely intense!!
"Ye Haw " !!! Loved seeing this from a jockey's view point . What a finish . They don't cut them that thin with an electron Microscope !!!!
It was so fun! -Sara
That is some serious flying. I cant imagine slipping like that so close to the ground!
Fantastic race! Love the ending to the video. Great job Steve and Toby.
Even though you didn't win this one Steve, it was amazing seeing you guys compete in this video. Great job Sara
Thank you!
KQ, the team and pilots have a good thing going there, excellent stuff.
That is some skill right there. The side slip to slow down is great. I would love to see one of those competitions. Fantastic.
We hope you can make it to one of them. Come say hi! -Sara
Wow. Good job Sir. You are pulling the best out of everyone.
Competition drives innovation. 😊 thanks for the nice comment
Awesome skills by all, great to follow this last week on RUclips

Steve Henry vs Toby Ashley!
Awesome!! Great video...man that was CLOSE!
That was a nail-biter! Wow! Great flying, and great video production!
Thank you! This is Sara (daughter) , I’m doing his video work. We are both trying hard!
Amazing job both pilots. Mr. Henry, you're still my favorite to watch. 🙏💪👊
Thank you! Thanks for watching
Excellent film footage and sound.
Thank you! -Sara
Adrenaline rush just watching!! Awesome races and great vid 🤙🏻
Thank you :)
Fantastic flying skills, guys! And marvellous planes, of course.
Wow!! That 1.5 seconds Steve lost on the turn, cost him. Love this stuff!!!
As a non pilot I love this, i'm also a motorsport fan so love pushing the envelopes of any discipline.
Thanks for watching! -Sara
That was a great video and intense competition!! WOW!!
Thank you for the nice comment! -Sara
MAn that was intense and really enjoyable to see. Great job guys, looks amazingly FUN!!!
Thanks for the nice comment!
Dudes are hard core! Awesome to watch!
I know that it sucks to loose, but not winning is the spice that keeps one hungry!
And with Juan as the announcer, even more exciting!!!
Yea! He did a great job
Awesome performance!😄
Wonderful race! Congratulations. It is so intense to see you guys, racing so tight ! Impressive!

Great racing Steve 44. Awesome videos Sara 22.
Thank you 🥰
Great racing!
Wow- what a great race! Super fun!

Love to watch you fly Steve !!! Fantastic competition

Amazing.
If it’s a tie, should the shortest one win?
That engine sounds absolutely insane!

Good show Steve, healthy competition only pushes you farther!
Thank you
Wow! Wow! Wow! That was tight. Nice job Toby n Steve!
Thank you. It was a very close race!
I really don't know the point of this, but it was interesting nonetheless. Seems you could design and install a reversing prop and stop mid air.
Man, that got my blood pumping. I could not blink for a second. Freakin AAAAAAAAsom.
That was amazing!! Thank you for sharing
Thanks for the nice comment
The first time I watched it, I thought Steve red-lighted on Race 2. But after watching several more times, I think he just beat Toby off the line, fair and square. Really great stuff. Congratulations to all!
It’s so close! We have all watched it sooo many times!
I think possibly his locked wheels just skidded forward due to spinning up the prop. Steve didn’t let off the brakes until Kevin said ‘C Ya,’….
Awesome runs! Congrats to all of Rev a great race! You'll get them next time Steve!
Thank you, we will be looking for more speed and more brakes!
Wow I'm impressed
Thank you! Just wait for next year…
Hello from Minnesota!! Wow that was close!!
Maybe time for a Haltech ECU and tweaking the wastegate settings. They do two stage nitrous maps as well. Also could use E85 Ethanol fuel with a flex fuel sensor.
It would be nice to have a full time mechanic along for these trips to do some fine tuning!
Awesome racing! Sooo close.

Austin Clemens has a reversible prop. -Sara

That's a cool airplane race . 400 hp.in a 800 pound . That just says FUN!!!
so much fun!
Congratulations to all
That looks quite fun
Wow so very close each time!
What is Steve Henry’s shoulder patch?
Congratulations Steve and Toby!
Thank you!
great job!
Thank you!
I had no idea this existed ,,incredible skill to fly like that and to race as well ,,,jeez
Thank you!
What airframe is Toby flying? Which motor?
It’s a carbon cub with a Kawasaki JetSki engine.
@@SteveHenry thanks
@@SteveHenry Does the Kawasaki make more hp, more boost, is he running nitrous?
Yes he’s making considerably more power with Nitrous.
@@SteveHenry have you any plans to pump of the volume?
Im amazed that people actually race planes like this
Why are they tipping the planes sideways in the race?
It's called forward slipping. Along with the flaps, It quickly reduces speed and altitude.
@@main199 Thanks. Ill look that up.
its sorta like "air brakes" -Sara
So. Closely. Matched!
Yeah it makes it exciting for sure
Wow ! What engine in the
Cub ?
It’s a Kawasaki jet ski engine
@@SteveHenry thanks, if you have 300hp does he have like 400hp ???
Yes
Wow that's intense looking!
It definitely is intense
I am sure you are already scheming to make that plane a bit faster and slower for next year...You'll get em Steve!
Great Job Steve!
Did Juan get it wrong at 4:47? It's Toby's plane that uses N2O, isn't it?
Toby uses it to make horsepower, I use a small shot to help with turbo lag on the turn-around
@@SteveHenry Interesting, I'm surprised that lag is that much of an issue.
@@SteveHenry BTW, if you're running N2O anyway, you could probably reduce lag by reducing the amount of boost that you're running, then use the N2O system to make up for the lost power. Nice guitar music at the end, too.
Are both running the same engine?

Thank you
It’s like in Motorcycle: Kawa has more Power 🤣
Thanks for the video!
Intense!!!!
W O W. Toby was Fast! But fast is not always the best approach. You think you need to pitch the prop a smidge? Was ROOTING FOR YA!
Thank you so much for rooting for me!! As with most things there is more to this sport than meets the eye. Having the right prop and having it pitched correctly is definitely one of them.
That last one was imperceptible!😬
