    Healers need an "I need protection" communication to annoy tanks with and an "I can't reach you" communication to annoy DPS with.

    • @MinesAGuinness
      @MinesAGuinness 4 года назад +58

      Yes! Revenge time! I would happily annoy people with those all day... well, I'd imagine doing it in my head... because I'm a healer and naturally averse to being mean to others because I just want everybody to be happy and enjoy the game... sorry, someone needs heals! Don't worry, I'm coming! :-)

      While ranged attacks? Well at least they typically have a few AoE, as well as waaaayyyyyy higher attacks and crit rates in general. So yes, a ranged fighter will probably survive better, especially if they know how to kite. @BlueShellshock Год назад +2

      I had to learn this one the hard way. It might seem contradictory, but you can't have a martyr complex as a healer, if ever you have to make a snap decision to defend yourself or stay in cover instead of healing a death's-door team mate, there will be times you have to let them go. Identifying these moments is a skill in itself -- you are a healer letting a patient die, after all, but in the midst of combat, you do have to remember that you are a patient yourself, and that triage does include you too.

    There are some great perks to being a healer though, especially in Final Fantasy 14 where you get the power "Rescue" which yanks a player to your location. The responsible use of this power is to rescue players out of AoEs and death and all that jazz. The -fun- use of this power is jumping off of cliffs during raids and yanking your friend with you.

    That point about the healers generally seeing who needs what kind of healing is pretty spot on. As a healer, we generally see EVERYTHING the party is doing, so we both know when you're screwing up as well as how much healing you actually need. If a healer is calling you out on something, you're generally the one messing up. I tend to stop supporting those players until they either leave or learn.

      This was in a Kigatilik fight in Champions Online. One of the boss mechanics is periodic AoEs that blanket the entire battlefield. IF you have enough healers you can outheal the AoE, otherwise players need to use defensive postures to reduce the damage they take. This group was trying to push through when we didn't have enough healers for that. I can't heal the entire team by myself. Especially since Cosmic fights aren't a team of 5 players. No, it's 15-30 players. a team of 5 I can heal by myself, the other 10-25? Maybe some of them, not all of them!

    2. 99.9% of your experience playing different maps is staring at the health bars of your teammates. You could look at screenshots of a map and have no idea where it is until someone photoshops in some health bars in the appropriate place they should be on your screen. Only then you can vaguely recognize it.

Maybe because enemy abilities vary from match to match and loadout is limited, so your kind physician thought bringing a hammer suitable to most nails seemed to be a choice more sensible than bringing a torx screwdriver to counter that one enemy that throws torx nails at your team. Or maybe it's a MMORPG and a new player did not have the gold to buy all the scrolls available yet, so some rather specific status effects remain outside the area of expertise. Point is, wait for that one time where the team actually is in need of a silver bullet rather than a standard 9mm, then sit back and count the seconds until the first person flames you for not anticipating this once in a blue moon situation.

      Me: we had a near total party wipe! I had to self rez to heal you fast enough to keep it from being a total party wipe!
      Tank: oh... ok.
      Cosmics tend to be like that though. The tank CAN'T pay attention to the party. If they don't focus they'll either get KOed, or the boss will lose aggro... If the tank loses aggro, then the boss wipes the floor with the DPS and probably the healers. The previous example wasn't the tank messing up, just random bad luck.

    There's also always that one DPS player that is constantly taking avoidable damage, like standing in fire. What’s even more annoying than being an unappreciated healer, is when other people are playing healer and absolutely suck at it. Like in battlefield when people play medic with a syringe and don’t use it once the entire game, even when there is no incoming fire and there are 4 of them standing right on top of your body. Then the other one is when you are playing a healer and your team has a limited number of respawns, such as in battlefield modes like rush, and they keep skipping the revive when you are right next to them.

Me, thinking the Jedi Sage healer dude was important to our wellbeing, kept following them around and protecting them against mobs and bosses while they healed.
    ...for some reason none of the other DPS or Tank players appreciated this. Ironically, staying near the healer meant I also kept surviving, and when the group event was over the other players whined while the healer gave me some very valuable crafting mats, a fun mount unlock they had no use for, and eventually I joined their guild.

      This is like an essay I read on a guy that made a support wizard in D&D because some people he knew kept dying in their campaign, and they asked him to join and help. I guess the DM wasn't adjusting to compensate. Instead of taking damage spells, he focused on crowd control and giving his party advantage. Despite the fact that they started surviving, they kept giving him crap because he wasn't doing any damage. They just couldn't get that he was playing a part of the game they were ignoring. Like how tanks max out their dodge and armor, every attack that doesn't hit is less damage for the healer to fill back up.

I tank and dps, and regardless of my role I always make sure I know where the healer is at the start of the dungeon and make an effort to protect them. As a tank, healer gets first butt-saving priority. As a DPS, I'll pull adds onto myself that are swarming the healer if the tank doesn't get to them fast enough, because if the healer dies, we all die.
