Love all yourvideos Susan . I made one of the cardboard books. Had a hard time with the shiny surface and getting the gesso to adhere to it. Worked on it and worked on it and then I broke the back and all the pages separated. But, had fun making it. I'm going to try to find another book.

Sanding the pages helps a lot. Good luck with the next one.

I really enjoy so much of your work. Your choices of shapes and colors are spectacular! Sometimes, though, something bugs me, and this video has an example of it. To the best of my memory, when I've glimpsed other pages than the ones you do on camera, you actually do cross the gutter with some of your collage elements, but seldom (if ever) seem to do so onscreen. In this one, while that lush gray and black and black paper does match on both sides, there's a white line smack in the middle of the spread, where there's a gap between them. How did you decide to leave that there?
That's something I'd really like to see you explore more on-camera: breaking the gutter and treating the spread as the composition, rather than more as two separate compositions. That said, except for that bright white gap (which to my eye detracts from reading the entire expanse as a single piece), I really enjoy the tension between the way the gray and black paper spans the gutter, while each side also has its own identity.
Thanks for sharing your wonderful work with us. It's a joy to watch, and the results are pretty much always appealing and are frequently impressive!

You brush medium under the papers and then across the top of the paper. Would you explain why the medium is brushed over the top of the collage paper? Thank you.

Also used as a sealer to keep the paper nailed down

I find it helps smooth the paper down and seals it.
