This is the most controlled your swing has looked in a long time, a lot more balanced. Really unlucky not to of holed those putts! looking forward to the next video
This was the most enjoyable round coverage for a while just for the slow takeaway and the smooth transition and tempo. It suits you. Did you make a change or some sort of concerted effort to play slightly within yourself. It just looked really good and even driver was under control. Definitely a -3 round on another day. Bottle that feeling (said every golfer ever)
Have played the Highgate many times as I live in the Midlands and it is a good test. Tight in places and good course management a must. Looks like a really controlled swing, James, just a bit more luck on the greens. Keep it going.
Enjoyed your ball striking. Proximity to the hole = why there weren't a lot of birdies. Got to take advantage of those wedges. Lots of 15 to 20 footers with you're less than 150 out.
James, lovely to see you not pulling your self down in the round and sticking with things. Your learning, great to see you realise what you did wrong and take that provisional. +3 is a lot better than what we have seen before. Yes I know if only the putts would drop.....keep with it.
Swings looking really good James, putting stroke was there as well. Just one of those days where nothings dropping! Loads of positives to takeaway though looking forward to round 2!
Agree that it looked good but I think if stroke is good and you are not making the putts the reads might be slightly off and perhaps need some shorter putts as well
I think of you actually analyse the round using decade or something similar you would find that you didn’t putt badly. It looked more like your approach and short game didn’t get you close enough to me. Nevertheless another solid score :) great video :)
Really enjoyed this video as this course is literally 10 minutes from me! Some great shots in this round, such a shame about those putts just missing! Keep it up pal
Quality track.. I’m playing there in the English Mid Amateur in July, lots of tight holes, irons from tees on lot of holes. 64 is a great score. Used to go there for regional qualifying for the open and think I’ve got through with -2 before.. tough course for its length
I agree (with both swing and putting) - I wouldn't let that putting performance make you think about changing anything - same process and they'll probably start dropping.
I play in the West Mids/Worcestershire and have played Enville many times. First tip…don’t miss the fairways. Second tip…leave it on the right, wrong spots. Good stuff, James.
Watched most of your round, there was no difference in ball striking between yours and shergo’s round of 67 except for awful luck on the greens. Keep going mate, class act on and off the course 👊
Vid was awesome quality again James 👌 course vlogs are a fave of mine. Keep them coming 😂🙌 also with you on the alignment, mad, your head says your aiming a certain way then when you see it on camera your feet aren’t where you think they are aiming. Unlucky with the putter mate, practice makes perfect as they say 👌⛳️👍
Well played.👏 like others have said, if those putts had dropped .... Interested to know if you get a chance to see pin positions before the tournament and where your 'ideal' landing spot (target) and do you get frustrated not getting to use your driver much or happy to use irons at this moment in your game?👍
dude, this is obviously one of those rounds where you ended up with like 15' of putts but could have easily sunk 150' worth of putts. very frustrating, but i hope you give yourself credit for scaring the hole nearly every time. keep doing that and they're going to drop for you in bunches!!
Yeh i agree 100% swing looks good. especially in transition. short game sharpenig and some way of getting your swing togeher on days when your not playing well and that will be the diffeence. If you leave a putt short it has ZERO chance of going in. that alone will shave 4 shots maybe off your score.
Definitely a lot of good/better swings. Interesting note though, that 2-iron swing @11:12 is so much different then say, some of your driver swings. WAY further inside looking like you're trying to sling a hook. That 2-iron @13:43 by comparison was far more neutral in your takeaway which as you said was a pretty good shot, meaning you're actually neutral when you're trying to play a hard cut and way inside and flat when trying to hit it "stock". I know its a broken record, but you're going to have to get rid of that inside/flat move eventually as it just gonna keep hurting you under pressure.
Love the swing improvements!! To be honest mate, you cant really fault the putting much - on a good day, a fair amount of those would probally have dropped. As you said, the alligenment was costly during the round, even tho the swings were acutally pure enough. If your ever in Denmark, i would love to do some caddy work. Cheers
Great vid as always. Short iron swing is looking better, far more deliberate. A result of your short game work no doubt. You are still a bit 'laggy' with the short irons though. You might try a slightly shorter back swing, and stay a bit more connected with the club on the down swing. You will be a bit shorter with them, but more accurate and more consistent. really interesting, watching your journey! Keep it up please. Hey, kudos to the cameraman by the way........... please thank him for the coverage!!!
The swing looks really under control in the main aside from the couple where the alignment was off and a couple of flared irons. What seems to be missing is being dialled into the flag from 120 yards and in. The putting was good from 15, 20, 25 foot but the best only make 20- 30% of them at best, 8-10 feet it's 50-60% so in my view that's where your shots gained will be and will turn 73 into 68 or better
Huge amounts of resilience there Wilts was just an unlucky round. Feel your on the verge of some seriously low scoring. Pleasure to watch, get up to the north east for a game!
Fantastic effort fella. Obviously we can't tell from the just watching the highlights but it looks like you kept your cool under the circumstances and that's a really good positive to take out of it. Out of interest, what work have you done on your putting, I remember you've mentioned aimpoint before. Have you always had the same style putter. Just curious what you think might be holding you back (If anything!). Good luck and keep going.
@@GolfJamesWiltshire you must be due a low one soon then!!! The very best of luck with it all. I think any of us who’s been following for a while can see big improvements in your swing and game. All the best
Great video! I know it might be hard to remember but maybe in the recaps you could talk a little bit more about what you were thinking/feeling at different points in the round as well as narrating the action? Like in this round how frustrated you must have been getting at the lip outs and how you were trying to overcome that mentally? Might add a bit more flavour to the commentary - just an idea anyway. Aside from that looking good mate just an unlucky round honestly. Couple of errors but those could easily have been offset and then some by those putts dropping.
Hey James, I'm a fan of your videos and after watching your journey to be a tour player over the past year or two I have an observation that I hope you understand comes from a good place and is only intended to help you to improve. You are an ex long drive competitor yet I rarely see you hit a driver? I know that being able to hit a 2/3 iron (or whatever your longer club is) 250 yds + is a big asset but you seem to be playing this shot too much and this adds a ceiling to your scoring because when you leave yourself a longer distance in, the numbers will always win and you will never go properly low. Your course management seems to be just trying to shoot a couple under par by limiting any big numbers and nicking a couple of birdies but this is exactly how a million golf shop pros stay selling mars bars. You need to not be afraid to shoot 80 on a bad day when you know that on a good day you can shoot 62 because a missed cut followed by a win the next week will achieve more during the season. At the moment your scoring range is a couple under to a couple over which achieves absolutely nothing. Look at how a modern tour pro plays, aside from The Open or maybe a unique positional course like Paris National they all pull out a driver or 3wd, hit it as hard as the can and then go look for it. On a good day off the tee they shoot really low and on a bad day they try to scrap really well, which is something that you only get better at by putting yourself in those tough positions. Relying on mid range putts to nick the odd birdie gives your game no intensity whatsoever which is why when you miss a green or go out of position you are not scrapping well enough. You need to be happy to miss greens and hole a putt to get up and down from 8ft as when you hit one close you then have the mindset to take advantage. Think of these 2 types of golfer - the first one hits the first 2 fairways and greens and 2 putts both of them from mid range by just dollying it up to 3ft; they then miss the 3rd green and chip to 8ft but because they have no intensity they miss it and are +1. The second golfer misses the first 2 greens but chips up and makes the putts then hits a good one on the 3rd and as they have the mindset of holing putts they make birdie and are -1. Your golf game is the first guy and a tour pro plays like the second guy. And finally, stop bloody hitting stingers. They may impress some 28 handicapper watching your night time range sessions on RUclips but they aren't hard to hit for anyone with a modicum of talent and again have a look at the tours - aside from The Open no one hits a stinger unless they have to because of weather or a bad swing day. Don't choose to hit one as your only focus should be on scoring low not how it looks.
At 4:20ish- not sure if your playing partner volunteered that he hit 7, but its a 2 stroke penalty if you asked him what he it. Just trying to help you not incriminate yourself on these vlogs!

Enjoyed this lots, James - live near by and great set up at Enville. Swing is looking very good
Wow great golf, ice cold putter. Potential to be unreal is there James, keep it up mate

Nice grinding, but I wonder why aren't you trying to get closer to wedge range on shorter holes? Leaving 180yds in feels a bit much.

Solid round mate. Just need to pull driver a bit more. You hit it miles. You need to be hitting gap wedges into greens rather than 7/8 irons
Live not too far from Enville. Such a great couple of courses
