Hoooa! From Scout Ranger class 101-89 (The Uncommon Valor)

      Saludo po ako sa inyo!
Filipinos salute our soldiers, they are brave and would sacrifice their lives to keep us safe. The only problem are the corruption in their higher ups. While our soldiers are saints, their generals are corrupt demons who line their pockets with money that should have been used to strengthen our soldiers with better weapons and gears. All our soldiers can do is toughen up because they cannot tech-up.

Living in the Philippines as a foreigner the summer months are especially brutal. Sitting in the shade really doesn’t help. I admire these Filipinos brothers for attempting such a difficult training.

32 C and +75% relative humidity pretty much is the average during the summer months, *in the shade.*
I'm old enough to have gone through mandatory ROTC training in university, back before congress scrapped the program. You'd usually see a lot of guys in BDUs every Saturday. And yes, we marched and trained the whole day, every Saturday, for about 80 weeks over two years.
ROTC is absolute ratsh*t though compared to what the SR, Seaborne, and the other uniformed special units had to go through. I wouldn't be surprised if these guys were doing their runs in ++38 C heat, exposed to direct sunlight (probably around 0900-1500, judging by the shadows).
But yeah, you gotta prepare for the worst possible situations. F*cking badasses.

There were known NPA's somewhere, and a group of scout rangers passed by the house very early in the morning. They were running continuously towards a direction. What really shocked me was the way they crossed the wide area of tall grasses, coz there's barely a sign that a group of people passed thru it, when the grasses remained normally standing. We all looked at each other with the same question in our head: How did they freakin do that with all the weights and things each of them carried?

Hello, speaking as a Australian Filipino man here. I can confirm that the heat IS normal during the dry seasons of the year. Especially between the months of March to July. Because of the constant heat that can reach around 51 degrees Celsius, it can cause many heat related symptoms to the human body. One of which is heatstroke and dizziness. That's actually pretty severe since the training is very brutal and many actually went to the hospital from day 1 from the excessive heat they've been exposed during their training. In all honesty, the training of the Philippines Scout Rangers are the most brutal and most dangerous training regiment of all the ordinary Philippine soldiers can handle. Some even die in actual combat training just in order to graduate and to protect and serve their beloved country. I'm proud to say that these people would serve their country and risk their lives just to protect and serve the country and it's people.
My respects to the one who protect and serve their country.
Thank you for everything you've done to us, you deserve our gratitude and respect.

The scout rangers are one of the elite forces who deal with terrorists (who has ties with Al-Queda, ISIS, etc.) in Mindanao in a day to day basis. Our country is an archipelago and a lot of battles span throughout different terrains, hence the training. Also, the training off camera is more brutal because passing each greatly increases a soldier's chance of survival. The training may seem unnecessarily brutal at first glance but if you bear in mind the type of people they're fighting against (home grown terrorists who have been doing their training since they were kids), these soldiers will never be over prepared.

To tell you honestly, I am an Philippine Army Reserve and we fully respect the Scout Ranger. As a Filipino, we do not easily give up. We go through the toughest situation with a smile and the drive to keep going because we love our country. Even during my Reserve training they say that many who do not successfully make it has the same thing in common, they easily give up. British may seem that this is ridiculous, but for us Filipino we will give everything we have to protect our country. The Abu Sayaf and all insurgent groups would do worse to us if we easily give up. That is why they go through such a mentally insane training like this. It keeps us alert and alive and through this training they are mentally and physically prepared for everything.

You have to remember and consider that the weather in the Philippines, the heat, goes as high as 52 degrees celcius, that's 125 degrees fahrenheit. I am not at all surprised at that first recruit that collapsed due to heat exhaustion on his first day. The heat, the equipment they have to carry, the distance they have to travel, and not to mention the clothes they wear is something you'd wear in Canada during fall or early/warmer stages of winter. Mad respect for these people. Not just the ones who are already soldiers themselves but anyone who actually tries to go through the training.
