Hey, unfortunately not. I finally left a few months ago after 6.5 years in country. What's your plan whilst there?

Can foreigner own land? What is the cost of waterfront land? How much cheaper is inland property? What are labor costs. In the Philippines a non-skilled laborer is about $6.00 a day, what would it be there? Are building materials readily available? What is the attitude towards expats or long-term foreign residents?

I have no idea about the cost of land, however as far as I'm aware a foreigner cannot own land, it must be Timorese owned, so I believe people go into business partnership or rent rather than buy. There are plenty of longer term expats and the attitude towards them seems fine from what I've seen. Building supplies appear to be readily available and a lot is also imported from nearby countries too.

Thanks for this summary. Why did you leave? I would like to visit to learn about the culture etc. I come from a very Catholic influenced place in India, so am sure I would recognise a lot of the similarities. I am guessing most of the job opportunities would be in retail(cities), education and hospitality? Is there an IT job market?

You're welcome. I lived in Timor-Leste for 6 years, so I was ready for a change. There is a market for IT and project management within the NGO organizations.
