There IS a trade paperback of this! amzn.to/3mmhXcP
Why???
Ballsy move to have the look inside feature for it lmao
Oh my god, the evil villain plot of this stupid comic is so similar to the new jurassic park movies bad guy its hilarious
$14 plus shipping for a tpb of this? Can’t do it, but if I find it in the $1 bin I will grab it. For the sake of history.
I’m probably the only one who would like to see some more Ben Reilly
I was told about this video and had to come watch. WOW.
I am absolutely blown away that you took the time to learn the history behind the making of "my dream job" and truly truly appreciate the depth of which you talked about every aspect of Spider-Man Quality of Life.
Thank you so very much. You were So kind and SO respectful to my plight and I am so grateful. This was such an enjoyable hour to spend reminiscing with you. What a crazy experience.
♥
Oh. I found out about this from comments on my video.
ruclips.net/video/9EheUFy7pOg/видео.html
I went to check your current work right after the video, they're amazing!!
@@Tamaki742 Thanks SO much! ♥
@@ssavaart No problem! Love learning from your videos, it's always good to remind myself the fundamentals.
Within 3 minutes they called it heinous tho...
“She’s a snake woman”
(Giggles)
“Who shoots uzis!”
*WHEEEZE*
I can't wait for the inevitable Marville episode
"Spike Lee is the Kingpin."
The wait is over
I wish Scott Christian Sava would get the opportunity to do another Spider-Man comic now. Cuz he's evolved so much with his art style and is an amazing artist.
Totally agree!
I agree, this comic looks SO early 2000’s cgi. I saw so many comics with that style of art through the 2000’s and it was never the fault of the artist, it was the fault of the technology available at the time and the company for being so desperate to be cutting edge.
Is he really an amazing artist?
@@vicentegeonix Yes. The stuff he does now looks amazing.
@@Kimch87 I never heard of him, i might check him out to see if it is true.
As an aspiring artist, I understand why Sava would be proud of drawing Spider-man and getting paid for it. I'd bragging about it for the rest of my life
Also he eternally holds the title for the worst Spider-Man art of all time. Something that no one will ever take from him
To be fair it's not as bad as Sal makes it out to be visualy.
I met some local artists who drew those collecting cards for Marvel and present themselves as Marvel artists
@@brokenboy351 Yeah it is, unfortunately
@@the_rose_garden01 I'm inclined to agree with you. As one of my first comic series as a child, it was incredibly off-putting seeing Food Fight level visuals in a comicbook.
Listing Quesada’s early accomplishments, but you also have to throw in _Trouble is coming_ so his ego doesn’t get too big
“WRONG” I cackled like a hyena💀💀
Never thought I'd see Bowling Alley animation techniques in a Spider-Man comic
I will always watch Back Issues, regardless of what book is covered.
That introduction and guessing about Yiff and her 'powers' was hilarious and a perfect ComicPop! Moment
...I don't think her name is spelled 'Yiff.' At least, I hope it isn't. That's even more on the nose than the Monano thing.
It's Yith.
@@comicpop Oh good when I heard Yiff I was about to break out the urban Dictionary xD
Bring YIFF ... I mean yITH back ... bring YiTH back YIFF
"We'll never talk about marville"
I come from the future to say you will and it is amazing
The power guessing part was so fucking funny, and then Sal explains the character and I lost it
Holy crap this episode is already an all timer.
!!UPDATE!!
The ending of this book is probably the most amazing thing I've ever seen and I will now go looking for this in singles or trade. One of the best episodes ever, applause all around folks!
The art has a very "Foodfight" vibe to it in my opinion.
More like Foodfight with a TINY BIT of improvement.
Honestly, the Monano scheme ain't too far out of the realm of plausibility given the "licensing" of products today. You have to use ink from the printer manufacturer, you have to use creamer from the coffee machine manufacturer. I can imagine a company saying "you have to use our fertilizer for our seeds or else"
Seeing the art in this makes me wonder...
If you redid this whole book, panel to panel, in Gmod; would it look better or worse?
And if you need a model for the snake lady, use the one from XCOM.
Honestly, I’ve been thinking about using Unreal Engine 5 to try and make a good looking CG art comic book. I mean, with Ray tracing and meta humans I’m think it would be pretty easy to make something that looks good (at least something better than 2002).
Really wish more folks would watch the Star Wars episodes cause they are comedic/lore GOLD
Totally agree! Twin Engines is my fav.
After Rise of Skywalker, I can't stomach to consume any Star Wars media because I get put-off by association.
@@HOTD108_ That’s just bizarre and immature honestly. There have been plenty of bad DC and Marvel content put out and if you still consume any of it, you would be a hypocrite.
@@HOTD108_ I’m not interested any any of the Disney stuff.
I love how Sal goes into the history of a work, like the surrounding movie and tv or company drama. Really interesting time capsule.
The best part of this is Sal saying Yiff for an hour.
I very childishly find that very funny.
It's Yith.
@@comicpop That makes alot more sense but is alot more disapointing.
Loved the episode either way, keep em coming.
Sal, I love the formula no matter which book you do. I've watched every single back issues, many multiple times.
You're doing well.
I haven't... yet
I’d say Spider-Man Fever is a pretty good contestant for the second weirdest spider-man comic.
This book has a fascinating history. Great job sharing it.
Spidey looks absolutely terrifying on in the background. Like he's about to attack Sal.
The background image looks like a POV of Quinton Beck as he looks up and sees Spider-Man grabbing him by the fishbowl.
Spidy’s quipping like “Hey Beck, if I shake your head, will it tell me my future like a magic eight ball?” lol
Honestly I appreciate this show so much. It’s been such a consistent part of my weekly agenda since 2015 and it’s like coming to hang with friends just watching this. Through the best and worst times of my life this has been such a conforming constant that I have nothing but love and reverence for.
Love this channel can't imagine it was ever a concern that it wouldn't last.
The big books are cool but the weird/unusual books are always my favorite to watch on back issues!
You talked about Marville...
I now demand a Marville review, with all 4 on the couch...
😂🤣😂🤣
That be amazing, all 4
I'm a fan of when you guys try something outside the box. I understand it may not be super profitable but sometimes the barely heard of stories make for the most entertaining episodes
Quesada leaving is truly great news. Used to like his artwork but not as much as dozens of better artists. Thanx for covering "obscure" stories that I'll never read Sal, you guyz never fail to entertain tremendously.
This was truly a classic among classic episodes. Great stuff!
I love Greg Rucka, I wouldn't be the comic fan I am today without him and Brubaker. And I definitely get the classic noir vibe he was going for here, but God damn man, some writers just don't fit some heroes.
Amen
Back issues: it's not the book, it's the people.
"Go ahead Ethan hurt your eyes like I did" lol
Funny you mentioned Reboot, because Main Frame, the studio that made Reboot is the studio in Vancouver that made the MTV spiderman after.
I kept seeing a bunch of these singles in a back issue box and all I could think was “I wonder if Sal and co would ever cover this….nah, probably not”.
And here we are about a month-ish later. I’m so glad I was wrong 😂
Engagement with video to please the grand code that decides what gets shown! Also just wanna say I bloody love this channel, and listening to you four talk about comic, interspersed with tidbits of history and comic industry inside is such a lovely thing and you all, for what it is worth, brightens my day
They actually do a lizard with doc ock arms in a captain America book. He's from a alternate earth.
The strange part is that this back issues unlocked a forgotten memory, I remember owning the spiderman encyclopedia, and i vividly remember flipping to Y and seeing the snake lady, I remember thinking that the art was a print mistake or that it had to be from a terrible cartoon, I didn’t know the weird back story behind it, now i know and its still weird.
So on an earlier episode of Back Issues Sal talks about a comic that has the worst art ever and how the artist recently said how proud he is of it and it was the only book he ever worked on. Curious if this is the book lol.
The only thing missing from the end of that book is a film school-looking “Fin” at the end just to really apply the hard stop.
this is one of the best channels i've seen on youtube! keep doing what you doing, comicpop! we'll cheer for you no matter what. and also holy shiiiiiiiiit..... this comic is not good for the eyes. #ComicPOP
but a very good episode. this might be truly a CLASSIC back issues episode (for me.)!
however, this art is from the past. and i see some people calls this artist amazing. and i get it. i see his art on google like a few seconds ago and i see why he's a pretty cool artist. it's just that cgi wasn't for him (maybe his cgi art is good now. who knows) in the past. this comic was just his first time doing art like this. ;)
Best show on RUclips, it’s not even a competition.
For some reason I react emotionally when sal says a certain comic book issue didn’t do well, because the formula works for a good book or a bad book, and any in between.
I started watching back issues with the kingdom come episode, one of the best comics of all time beyond the shadow of a doubt.
The next book i saw them cover? VENOM RETURNS. Trust me, the formula works.
I remember getting the random extra large issue at 9 or 10 years old and I was obsessed with the art. 3 to 5 years later I found the book in my closet and tried to reread it as I was getting back into comics and immediately threw it away. Ahhhh the memories. Thanks back issues
Yith for the Serpent Society! This was fun! Thanks for covering it! Also, loving Ethan's shirt!
Sal, you just keep picking whatever book you want. It's always a blast to visit comic pop on the couch
I'm pretty sure the ending is supposed to be that Yith's heart grew 3 times larger after seeing Connors's anger over his wife's death. Not that she's in love with Spider-Man or the lizard. The ending is still fucking stupid as hell tho.
I for one am thrilled you covered this. I remember LOVING the art as a kid when I first read it though 😂
Well thanks! ♥
So happy y'all finally got around to doing Quality of Life!! Been asking for this one forever cuz the art is so .... Spider-Man quality of life lol
Great work as always, ComicPop!
♥
I remember getting this at my local comic shop 20 years ago. Only ever had the first 2 issues
Back Issues is simply the best place to get quality and entertaining coverage of the shittiest comic books.
Every RUclipsr already has every major arc covered, but none can match my favorite hosts digging through the worst publications. 😂 I love y'all so much and you make life way easier!
Oh ikr? I love every time its an obscure classic or just the never talked about worst of the worst. Still love the major event coverage tho cuz they get so crazy now the reactions are HILARIOUS
Shittiest but also most baffling.
What a terrible day to have eyes.
But have they yet to open?
Honestly this would look much better if Spiderman just had hands that couldn't reach around my entire waist
I really thought Ethan had something with "Her brain can..."
This episode gave me serious Killer Instinct vibes. Great job finding a good use for a bad book, ComicPop :)
(14:40) Well, at least it's the name of a Cthulhu Mythos alien race, so at least there's some sense to her name.
Although, there's also a snake god called *Yig.*
Sal says there will be no Marvilles on the channel.
One whoope cushion later…
Great to see someone else talk about the tribulations of the Great CD Format Wars of the early 2000s. Countless GBs of data were lost in those conflicts.
PLEASE do Marville, it would be an all-time classic episode
It’s pretty interesting cause I just saw a video on how the artist made this comic like last week
Snake women and lizards, it's all reptiles all the time. Also Yith won't have to be on the run since Monnano got absorbed by Bator so who remembers the old CEO got shot by a snake woman, she can come back and be in a love triangle with Spiderman
Another spectacular episode! Thanks for doing the deep dive/history lesson videos Sal.
The art reminds me of weird Deviantart fetish comics. Considering there's a snake woman and the Lizard involved, I'm expecting some vore.
This has got to be the most cursed Spider-Man book I’ve ever seen
13:19-14:08 perfectly sums up this channel and I love it!
The violists plan in this is the villains plan on Jurassic World Dominion. Interesting timing this episode releases now.
It´s really good watch you guys while I eat some snacks in the afternoom.
I love the back issues of more not to well known books even bad books. Every back issues episodes commentary always great
16:50 I read it by looking at the words glancing at the art then looking over the page again before moving to the next page.
You know...they could probably do a fun thing and re-release this comic as a full on hd remaster or as a total remake RE 2 style (and I guess RE4 as well which is awesome)
Always keep covering what you want to cover guys! I love every new episode and look forward to it every week! I especially love when we get random weird stuff like Wytches I would normally never get to hear about.
That snake woman's name is dangerously close to territory no one wants to go to.
I enjoy these episodes about relatively obscure early 2000s books. I was out of comics from the mid 90’s until around 2005 so there’s a lot of stuff I’ve never heard about from that period.
I read every comic Comic Pop does before watching the video. With this one, I had 0 context, I was a little sleepy, and I legitimately thought I was having a nightmare at first when I started reading it.
I always thought this comic existed because of the MTV Spider-Man show that was completely CGI
im so sorry this happens to be a spiderman video im commenting on but sadly its true spiderman is the goat and attracts. i love how you explain the history and take the time to give proper context to the history of the book before diving in, love the channel!
Iirc, there was also a female snake character that easily distracted a 15 year old Spider-Man in an issue of The Untold Tales of Spider-Man. :-)
And was watching an early episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and the vampire, Darla, pulls out 2 guns and starts blasting just like Yith. lol
A child friendly comic book with this cg style would be a good idea for the kids back in 2002 but giving it this wife cancer, sexy snake girl, corporate greed story just makes it an awful kids book. I don't think scholastic book fares will carry this 🤣🤣🤣
Woooow, I had this book back in the day when I was collecting comics, this and the amazing JMS Spiderman series. I think I bought it because It looked like the CG Spiderman series that aired on MTV (Hey, you mentioned that too)
I was recently reminded of this book a few days ago! What a coincidence.
This art/story definitely has that early millennium vaporware feel and aesthetic.
I'm just sitting here watching this and when the panels come up I'm wondering how this looks worse if not as rough as Spider-Man: The New Animated Series. Which came out a year after this comic made by the same people who made ReBoot.
(Side note they mentioned that very cartoon while I was typing this.)
So.... if you want a follow up to this mess, may I suggest "US War Machine" for another 3D comic that is apart of this push and a Marvel Max comic by Chuck Austen
You guys should do the first few issues of the Lee and Ditko Spidey run.
Always gonna be a good episode when it starts with Sal explaining editorial bullshit
“She’s a cold hearted snake ….. look into her eyes …. You know she ain’t got no thighs” Paula Abdul in the Marvel Universe probably
Oh boy, analog Spiderman 64?! Can't wait
Now that this episode exists. I'm very worried that Sony is going to make a Yith solo movie, I mean they have twice as much story to draw from than they do for the El Muerto movie.
Holy crap I remember this book coming out! I completely forgot it was a thing! Thabks for reminding me!
This is gonna be a fun episode 😁
The book artist looks like a canceled unused ultimate spider man show if it looks like jimmy neutron animation
Best comicbook channel on RUclips!
Could you imagine if they make a comic with screen caps of PS5 Graphics?
Eh, I think it would look kinda tacky
At my shop the other day I randomly discovered this and was absolutely blown away and confused 😂 It looks like the Red shot Chili Peppers gta-style music video from the 90’s
AwwI never thought id see a reference to Reboot on Back Issues. I loved that show.
1:03:55 A PIECE of.... history
You know what would be kinda dope is if they let Sava redo the art in today's standard of CG. Kind of like a remaster? I mean why not remastering seems to be the in thing with various types of media these days.
Yeah. I would totally do it in the Into the Spiderverse style.
Or the apex OT3: Polycule of Yith, Lizard, AND Spider-man.
My family computer had a zip drive growing up, lmao
