    This is my favorite comic of all time. I've read this title cover to backflap more times then my Bible. Season one of the show is incredible. It does this mini series so much justice. The first time I saw episode 2 of the show, I was in tears. The way Matt lifts his mask to not scare the boy, the way he says "let's get you home to your dad." to let him know everything was gonna be OK and the emotions i got from it. It's the same comfort i feel from that single page splash of Matt standing in the rain. Listening in on those goons telling the parents that they may never see their daughter again after 72 hours. With almost no dialog Matt stands there thinking, "The police wont find that little girl, but I will..". No thought bubble, just a still image and a feeling of hope. Thats what this book does for me.

    One question on the Fall from Grace: Was that the book that had Kingpin working out when he realizes Daredevil was coming for him and through "a man without hope is a man without fear"? I've been looking for that issue for a long time. I distinctly recall Kingpin sitting and lifting weights, without a shirt because we ALL need to see WIlson's sweaty Fisk.

  • @tomtudorweaver1078
    @tomtudorweaver1078 Год назад +4

    Whilst I prefer Daredevil to not be a killer, to me this story rides a great line by showing things like the stuff Matt does as a child, then what he does to his father's killers, the whole Typhoid Mary bit and Foggy's bully, there's something very haunting and unsettling about Daredevil as a presence in this story. He really feels like an unstable character who just so happens to have some degree of morality.
    Someone like Spider-Man will obviously never go that far, and for the likes of Punisher it's the norm or even tame, I like the scary uncertainty to this iteration of Daredevil where you don't know how far he'll go, and he really does feel like this almost ghostly force at work in New York.

    • @sweetchristmas92
      @sweetchristmas92 Год назад +1

      I like that younger Matt is reckless enough to get people like Typhoid Mary getting killed, and Stick leaving him behind right after his father gets killed. It shows the collateral damage of a rookie crime fighter, but he still has his morals. I just wish this version of Matt wasn’t so ok with leaving goons to drown during the pier fight against the traffickers. Matt had a lot of darkness in this series, and Elektra was a bit psychotic off the bat, when she should start off with a little bit of innocence. I do appreciate the edginess to Miller’s retelling. Very 80s comic vibe, with a touch of Batman year one, but for Daredevil.

    • @tomtudorweaver1078
      @tomtudorweaver1078 Год назад +2

      @@sweetchristmas92 Yeah I think it's a hard line to ride. I prefer Daredevil to not be a killer at all, but I'm not against the idea that a younger him is reckless and gets people killed, but him actively getting a guy to shoot himself is a bit too far for me. Then again, taking this story in as its own thing, it works for that story.

    • @sweetchristmas92
      @sweetchristmas92 Год назад +1

      @@tomtudorweaver1078 True, I really love the tone and artwork here, and I’m willing to look away at times, the deflecting the bullet scene, I can kinda forgive, because he begged him not to keep shooting, and was solely trying to protect Mickey. In Born Again, Matt blows up a helicopter in self defense when Nuke and his goons were spraying bullets and hell fire into the city. Moments like that are forgivable, and it is under Miller’s writing, it’s just hard to see him so messy in an origin story, but it is it’s own thing while being kind of canon.

    • @tomtudorweaver1078
      @tomtudorweaver1078 Год назад

      @@sweetchristmas92 Its own thing whilst also being canon is a good way to put it, the details may vary but the basic story beats definitely carry over. As I said I like the balance with Daredevil here, he's not as dark as say, the Punisher, but he's no Spider-Man either, he feels like a good middle ground.

    • @sweetchristmas92
      @sweetchristmas92 Год назад

      @@tomtudorweaver1078 True, a good comeback story during the 90s which was a weird time for Daredevil and other superhero characters. This was definitely intended to be a late 80s story.

    I'd say Mickey did a solid job at being both victimized and contributing to her own saving. Like, she's been knocked out and taken somewhere by bad people, they steal her clothes and redress her, all that stuff. And the whole time she's subtly leaving a trail for Matt to follow. Probably terrified the whole time, but still managing that little, critical bit.
    It's not really glamorous. There's no moment where she faces off with one of the sub-bosses and wins, or something like that. But still, she uses her brain and provides the means by which Matt can save her.
    I'd say that's a solid introduction to build on if you ever wanted to do something with an older iteration of her.

    I would love a flashback scene where deardevil has to explain to peter Parker that he has to WAIT for the cops to send these guys to jail

    spider-man’s origin is a fairy tale with a moral and it can be told in 10 pages while daredevil’s is a whole saga which takes a whole season of television.

    I wonder if part of why Frank loved Daredevil so much was because Daredevil was the closest thing to Batman Marvel has?

    Man Without Fear is such a good book, it is THE definitive DD origin book. For as important as the og Stan Lee book is, Man Without Fear is up there with Born Again and Yellow imo as one of the essential DD stories

    Daredevils suit out side of the universe was to slip past the comic code think about the time period it took place this was the 60s they took the safe route of having him test the waters of a ambiguous colors

    I love that comic, the art is fantastic and Frank Miller does a really fantastic job with Daredevil's origin story.
    Frank Miller is by far the best Daredevil writer, next to Brian Michael Bendis and Kevin Smith.

      I agree 100 percent, Kevin Smith only did good with Guardian Devil, Chip Zhadarsky is another top tier Daredevil writer that definitely stands to the quality that started with Miller and Bendis.
