People keep hyping up 2023 as the best year for gaming in years, but 2024 has started out even better for me. An amazing Tekken game and one of the best Metroidvanias all in January is crazy.
Bless, the majority of people who go to EVO or FGC tournaments are fun-loving people, not hardcore folks taking the game too seriously. Even amongst the best of the best, only a percentage of them really act like that, most just really love the game first and foremost. Also, fighting game tournament roots started in the arcades, the Arcade Quest is a look back to the pre-Internet FGC.
The spectate feature in lobbies was shown off by the devs in the last showcase. They specifically made lobby player caps an uneven number so that one extra player could be in there to spectate and stream.
this is going to be the game that makes me a fighting game fan. it’s doing some of the things i was hoping Riot’s Project L will do like showing you what to do different during match replays and being able to pick up the match mid-replay
I stopped playing Tekken after 3. Tried 4 but I couldn’t click with it and ended up shifting focus to the Soul Calibur series. 8 is definitely the one. Made me order a Qanba fight stick yesterday 😂😂😂
The rant by the guy who Platinumed the game is pretty much what I am looking for when it comes to reviews on this game, and the rest of the podcast was also very good. You guys clearly enjoy the game and know what you're talking about. Thank you for prying yourselves away from the game long enough to record this, lol. One of you even mentioned Law and as a Law main I really was glad to hear his ending is a good one. Team Battle and Survival seem to be gone, but with the fast load times for offline stuff it almost doesn't matter. If Tekken Ball is played alot they will consider adding Tekken Bowl. Pictures of a sort of revamped Scenario Mode(Tekken 6) leaked some time ago. No one seems to be mentioning anything like it in reviews that I've seen so far so it's either not that after all, reviewers can't talk about it, or it drops on launch day. I hope it's around, whatever it is.
The best analogy i've heard for Tekken's storyline is that its the Fast and the Furious of fighting game stories. I mean in one of the opening scenes you see Jin hurling a motorbike at a helicopter from the side of a skyscraper. Thats the energy your going to get in Tekken. Edit: The custom room stuff is getting adressed at launch. The devs did a Tekken talk at the TWT Finals and showed that the rooms will have 17 player slots who can play eachother simultaneously. the 17th slot is specifically there for spectating so people can run and stream online tournaments.
Yea if Fast and Furious was an anime. The writing/storytelling is extremely bad but its a very fun/exciting anime spectacle to play through. The actual Tekken anime on Netflix though is much better, and Tekken 7 told a better story. Tekken 8 follows up 7 with bizarre continuity misteps that make Netherrealm writers and Fox X-Men movies actually look good with the issue, you kinda have to imagine the Tekken games as a multiverse for them to make sense.
@@Alex_Logan22Dude what you are you comparing this to ? 7s story was the worst in the series, 8s story is way more solid than anything in the series aside from T4.
@@shaghilathar3588 The storytelling sure, not the actual story. And its full of tropes executed generically making too many moments feel flat in comparison to 7's moments.
@@Alex_Logan22 Having tropes isn't inherently a bad thing, you need those to tell a story. The entire plot of t7 is completely redundant and can be summed up as heihachi loses to Kazuya since nothing else in that story has any consequences in the future and doesn't connect to anything before it, it's a complete failure from top to bottom. 8s story is a like a cinematic blockbuster, the tropes used actually make sense, the plot connects back to previous games, evolves the themes and narratives and caps everything off with a climactic send off. Major things happen in 8s story and is done very well
@@shaghilathar3588 I didn't say tropes are bad, I said T8 went about them in the most mundane, cringe way possible. The plots of both games connect to prior ones and major things happen in both. In fact, Akuma plays a huge part in 7 but 8 just pretends like he never happened.
It’s the new golden age man. Locals are so hype this year. Think back to how they were the year before, it’s so different now. We’re so fucking back baby
Im super Hyped and cant waite to unbox my Premium Edition but now im a little bit sad about the 5 matches for the arcade ending for each fighter i wish i could choose the amount of fights like 5 10 15 and may all 32 to get the ending 5 matches r a bit fast 😢 ....
I have never been a Tekken player since the Arcade days for like Tekken 5 and 6 casually and loosely, Never played 7 and always have been a NRS Injustice/MK player but i can safely say Tekken 8 IS THE Fighting Game! Its so good that im always watching matches and also trying to get good at not to mention almost everyone is the roster is Very cool. The Training and Replay Matches are I can say Genre Defining, Customization is Rich, The Heat System just Ramps things up into another level. I Genuinely think Tekken 8 might be the Best Fighting Game of All Time, ITS Just THAT GOOD Amidst the Broken/OP shit the community is going to not like. Theres a Big Chance this game might be the GOTY OF 2024 Aswell if not My Personal
You know what would be super cool KF? This is something I don't think anyone else is doing. You guys should review multiplat games on the opposite of your console of choice. It's all positive. There are enough of you that all consoles would be covered but you'd be the first to actively quell the nonsense console wars AND you'd open up perspectives by having a truly broad basis for opinion. Above the normal which console is better BS that most gaming platforms are doing. Or whatever.
If you are mostly interested in T8's singleplayer modes, you could probably wait for a sale if it still seems interesting. For online, it is a must buy day 1.
I played and enjoyed every Tekken up until 6 and then for some reason I fell off. I would like to get back into them but something about the graphics and presentation really doesn't appeal to me. Although the games are new and in 4k the art direction doesn't look like it's evolved at all since the PS2 days with really outdated effects and UI. If the game was anywhere near as pretty as the new Street Fighter or Mortal Kombat games I'd be much more interested in jumping back in.
Scottish guy here! You can turn on the captions, because apparently a computer is more willing to try to understand people with a different accent than some human beings are ;)
Playing Tekken on my 68" CRT with my pals on the OG PlayStation are some of my best gaming memories. Eager to try T8.

And I was skeptical of Palworld, played 4 hours last night after work haha.
The past idk how many years anymore have been crazy for games
I can’t get over just how many good games there are to play rn. Looks like I’m buying Tekkan 8
No joke. So amazing but so overwhelming at times
*Tekken
You're right. I'm not really a big gamer, and I'm already buying more games than usual
Why would you buy a game you can’t spell?
@@Mycarisloose Good one bud 👍🏻
I can not wait to play. Tekken is my all time favorite series.
Same, man. I took off Friday for this. Feels good.
Same

I played an un-godly amount of Tekken bowl as a kid. It would be hilarious if it made a comeback.
Chapter 10 of story mode, big surprise.
My favorite fighting game since I was a kid yes I will be buying it!
Haven’t played Tekken in years but I think it’s time to jump back in

I feel like if I can play the air hockey table and the foosball table in the fight lounge, then I would be sold.

Was waiting for this one and also Like A Dragon
All the stories were in the demo as well
So excited for Like a Dragon this weekend!!
Remember when blessing said tekken didn't stand a chance against sf6 and mk1 I remember 🎉
Loved the demo. Thinking bout getting this after Sucide squad lol. Teken was first game i had for my og Ps and crazy to see where we at now with it
T8 is especially worth it if you are into online. So much fun!

Ok bless got the shadow drip chain.
I’m so fucking excited man😭IT CANT COME ANY SOONER TO MY PS5
Im so hyped for this game can’t wait!

MK1 isnt included in golden age convo. GrandBlue & undernight could though
Maybe for a casual, but MK1's pro scene is on life support. It's the worst NRS release post 2011.

Reina, girl Heihachi… but if your hardcore, see ya at TTT 3 ;p
I almost feel the same way about Bruce Irvin. But then again, I'm old.
I wish Tekken was all in one language
Why? The different languages are so cool
Ew, no.
I wish more games would mix languages like Tekken instead of just accents.
