The only new station opening I've been to was the original opening of "New South Ferry", the southern terminal of the 1 train here in New York, in March of 2009. The station was open all of about 20 minutes before a water main break uptown suspended 1 service.
The original station, which still exists but is closed off, was a loop track that only had a five car long platform, but the trains are 10 cars long. So every car had multiple posters reminding people they needed to be in the front five cars to exit.
when service was stopped, two 10 car trains were stuck in the station. Everyone there; the MTA workers, the officials, the police and the railfans, all started raiding the trains for the posters as souvenirs.

    I noted 2 design flaws:
    - No clock in the concourse visible when you're looking at the departure board.
    - No RLU car stop, so even though the architect has clearly designed the canopies to accommodate 8 cars, all trains go right to the end & the front 2 carriages are outside.

9:46 Service to Check Station Screens*
    Random facts:
    - BCZ was built by three architects, one for platforms, two for different entrances, both entrance people in which failed becsuse they put mesh which allows someone to get 'moist' (water doesnt have much moisture)
    - All thameslink services thst say were going to 'Check station screens'
    - The entrances will appsrently be open all the time to allow for crossing the railway, hence why:
    - It was open super early
    - Signs to the west exit appear at the east exit and vice versa
    - Boards at London St Pancras said no thameslink departures and platforms A and B were closed which wasnpretty scary until the ticket office person said EMR plats, at least that was still open, there were zero signs on the shuttee thingys saying to go to platform 1-4
    - Platform 3 and 4 are for fast lines, 1 and 2 are for slow, so why the hell dod you get to P3-4?
    - Signs for the cafe on platform 1-2 leads to a probably empty room with dark windows that you cant see through

I was the first person there at 0500 this morning. I expected more people and was surprised I was the only one. Whilst waiting I had a chat with the driver of the first 316 bus (no passengers). Great to have a new station in London. But no litter bins (Geoff take note, a shorter video!) only toilets on one platform and the communication from staff was frankly abysmal, particularly about the service disruption, and no update on the platform screens advising such. Although all three ticket machines worked (I managed to get the first publicly issued tickets from two of them) one was later out of service. Marginally better than GWR! See you at East Linton for the next and 8th station opening of the year!

    • @JenOnTheMove

The overbridge is open 24/7 so generally there won't be a specific opening time per se. Apparently it's not a public right of way though; Network Rail (as landowner) prevent this with declarations made at least every 20 years under Section 31 of the 1980 Highways Act, AFAIUI.
Even on the rail passenger side of things, the station gets a 24-hour service (biggest gap 60 minutes between calls) Mon-Sat by dint of access to both Luton and (overnight only) Gatwick airports. Engineering works or delays aside, anyway.

3:09 Wait, do we do big developments in the North? I thought everything was run on thruppence ha'penny here.
6:03 If there are no ticket offices, I shall assume the accessibility option is fare dodging.

Does anyone know if the thameslink platform is raised and step free for the wheelchair carriages like the central London stations? Makes life so much easier not needing a ramp

I’m afraid not, there are manual ramps

@@JenOnTheMove gutted. You’d think they would have done that with it being a new station. The first time I used the Thameslink at St Pancras I cried because I was just like any other passenger able to travel independently. It may sound silly to some, but I am fiercely independent and hate asking for help and the step free was amazing. I hoped it would be the case for all Thameslink eventually. I love travelling on trains and yes the assistance staff are always amazing and friendly/ helpful etc but I love just rolling up (literally) and getting on like anyone else.

Platform 1 is the usual one Thamealink use when diveted into the high level, but the 0826 from Brent Cross West went into Platform 4, which is much rarer.

There are plans to close Cricklewood station as it only accommodates 8-Car trains but I think that Cricklewood station is likely to remain opened. Brent Cross West station does look absolutely nice and very brand new.

Ah right so Cricklewood station is to remain as it is. Hopefully Cricklewood station will have platforms extended to accommodate the 12-Car Class 700/1 trains.

    • @brianbell4937

Cricklewood is far too busy to be closed. 12 car trains regularly call at Cricklewood without problems. Southbound normal slow line platform 1 can take 12 cars, but Platform 2 Northbound only 8. The doors on the rear 4 stay shut. Overnight trains are regularly 12 cars calling Cricklewood. And indeed on Sunday one 12 car set at least was being used. Hendon northbound can only take 7 cars on the fast lines.
