Bought a 1998 318i for $750, all it needed was a ews module and a tune up, seals, runs like a charm 👍.
I’m buying one for 800 this Friday haha he doesn’t know how to burp the car but it starts right up on cold
I got a 318iS for just $300 all it needed was a new clutch. I ended up buying a 325iS that has a seized motor for $200. Snagged the Diff out of it which was the diff from the automatics. 3.93 gear ratio from the 3.45 that comes standard in the 318iS 5 speeds. that helped it get up and going quite a bit. Got a new ECU, built a custom intake from some tubing and fiber glass that pulled in cold air from the fog lights and got rid of that odd folded aluminium intake. Welded up the exhaust from the 325i, then advanced the timing on the intake cam. (the M42 motors came with adjustable cam sprockets from the factory), and made a custom bracket and used the wiring harness and ignition coils from the 325iS to make a Coil on plug ignition system, Stuck the larger Radiator from the 325iS in it. The thing was pretty zippy for a 4 banger. Put poly bushings all around and poly steering flex coupler. It was fun to drive around and it still got pretty decent gas mileage.
Had my 318is done in Portugal by him, excellent and honest men, excellent friend as well!
I still love 18is, thanks to this guy

S-chassis are overrated as fuck. Almost as much of a let down as AE86's.

I have a m44 4 cylinder 1.9 ltre and i love it!..i love the way these motors whine out they sound great and have plenty of torque!..a fun car to drive!
Updated 1.95L engined of the last of the E36 318is coupes has similar power to 320i coupe BUT you usually get more torque in a 4 cylinder vs 6 cylinder per litre (more bang or less mechanical friction of extra cyylinders) so depends if you want refinement of 6 cylinder vs slightly better torque curve=acceleration. I have a 1998 318is, had it since 2003, might give it a full cosmetic restoration

I used to have 318is, and everybody said get a 6 cyl, 4 cyl are garbage, then I got e 320 and it's horrible to drive, and burns much more fuel as a daily. So now I am looking again for a 318is.
A the 320 is garbage B put your purse down amd learn how to drive the i6
318is has the same 0-60 time as the 320, id you wanna 6 cyl go for a 325/328

depends where you live it can get really hard to afford one, mine costs me 3k usd but i live in Costa Rica so it was not that easy to save that money.
I have a completely stock 318i with a ecu remap to 143 hp from 118hp and the difference is noticeable

NeverStock bmw says that the 316i with m43b16 does 0-100 13 sec. Accordig on my gps it does 11.2sec.. my friend did puta his stock m43b18 on dyno and did get 124hp on crank.. looks like bmw did lie in the old days... just like vw..

I totally agree that the e36 does better with a 4cyl, something about ripping the shit out of a 4cyl is just super fun though. I’d love a 250hp 4 cyl e30 4 door with diving board bumpers canyon car. My daily is m50 e34 & I’d need 350hp to have fun I’d think. But that may be my SRT8 Magnum (power to weight ratio is pretty good) coming through hahaha
You dont need as much power on the track you want to carry as much speed as possible. Weight and balance is everything. 200hp in a 2000 pound car is just as fast as a 3-400 hp car at 3.5k pounds.

Honestly the torque of m50 is noticeable but so is the weight over front axle feels like an old Audi in comparison to balance of 4

For a second there I thought you were filming an E36 with a blown engine
bmw had to run a 2.0 4pot because of regulations not because they were faster on track than the 6 pots , 36s with s54s in are the quickest things round tracks in the uk in the cscc and i think most other things im not sure if there is anything out there faster at the min
He compared it to a 325i, which makes 190 hp... the S54 is a completely different beast. More than double the 4 cylinder's power...
BMW could have used the 2.0 6 pot, but they chose the 4 pot for a reason

No he's running a custom intake manifold. Said he tried itb's but they didn't perform as well as his intake manifold he built for it. You can see/read a little more about it on his instagram.
Thats how 4 cylinder bamgers sound . mean !!!... Same with hondas gsr engines b12c5 and type R . jdm engines sound kind of like this BMW. I own a 318 i e36 by the way. I'm a 3rd gen bmw fan !! Classic model . will live in BMW history. !

Hell yes haha. Got the e30 version as my first car, got a turbo kit, clutch, coilovers, full suspension, and I daily it. It has 212k miles and will easily make it to 500k.

Metric mechanic does great work aswell, but are overpriced imo. This guy is in the m42/4 group on fb and he posts frequently. Im pretty sure he has a website aswell.

There was an m technic version in the UK if I remember. An s42 with a one off head would be sick in these cars.
