3x MIA 1st attendant here (09, 13, 17) in 2009 I completed my time as 1st attendant. In 2013-2014, I went on to compete for another title as MIA 1st attendant & won. I wasn’t required to pay back my scholarship or award then as the rule was implemented later. In 2016-2017, I turned in my application for MIW 2017 & the association took that as me relinquishing my title & because I served “half a year” I had to pay back half my scholarship. I won congeniality & evening that year & got to keep my awards. If attendants after didn’t pay back that’s unfair to you & myself who had to. If you ever want to chat or need someone to talk with, I’m here for you! I’m a firm believer that everything happens for a reason 🥰
1 thing I truly hate the most.. native being racist to other natives. I ate at a native restaurant.. servers were natives n they wouldn't greet or smile at us but they sure were nice to whites, blacks, n Orientals. Those Navajos was all we heard. Same with us too. We just work against each other.. pitiful .
Native racism towards other natives are common in Phoenix and Albuquerque. Especially the pueblos in New Mexico, they look down on Navajo and Apache. I experienced it on the job, living in apartment complex and at UNM.
Their saying, " those natives", just think of them saying," those natives, need to show us how to greet people, ☺️. Don't worry about small stuff, we natives all have a angry face, even if we smile.
Yaaeetah, it is good she sble to talk about it. It is best to address the problem and not let it continue. The Association has to listen to this problem, address it and come to some resolutions.
Thank you for sharing your experience and knowledge about the MIA. That is very sad to hear about the mistreatment you have experienced and to endure the unhappiness from an experience that suppose to help make you feel okay to express yourself in your roll that you represent to the MIA. Instead it is sad you hear also to see they don’t stand behind any of the beautiful women that are in the current position. Thank you again for sharing and also for your family support in standing up with you. Plus I hope this video reaches out to whoever is working on running MIA in the future. Through our clan we are cousin sister,👍🏼🪶🦅. May you and your family keep walking in beauty, Aho.🦅💪🏼
As kind hearted people, that are non-confrontational sense something off and "not right", shock is under stable and then in time if still disturbing, to speak up is appropriate. To use our voices, even when disturbing is honorable. Natiana your clarity, voice and action are important, valuable and courageous. Your steps will lead you forward in a good way. I believe in you, how you're standing up on behalf of your insights, you are courageous, wise and so very beautiful. Your brothers support warms my heart too.
All they did was emotional abuse. Wonder what their sponsors think about this. I'm so sorry you went through all that. May you find peace and harmony soon shiyazhi.
_Ya'at'eeh Shideezhí_🕊️ from Gallup NM Stay strong, my grandma who is Taos Puebloian had a encounter like that when selling Navajo Tacos in Santa Fe (her hometown) It seems like even a Taco made by a Taos Native can bring one or two heartless people. If you Indigenous, keep in mind The Colonialists are still here. We need to stay together. God Bless you Shideezhí
Hi i undetstand what your talking about it and i am glad that your albe to talk about misteatment of miss indian world it happen even in every day life not joke here good luck with everything
Why does the girls from the pagents only say or know their names, clans where they are from in their language, than stop speaking the language, they go back to speaking English. That is so sad, they don't know their own language.
@@tayesekakuku6778 I'm talking about , why pretend you speak your native language. If you really speak Navajo, apache, hoping, etc... speak it, or else just speak English. Dah ... quit trying to impress people. This generation, from the age 40 on down don't speak their native language, or understand it. Sorry to say.
It’s ain’t about faking or impressing it’s just respect for the people you come from to be able to do that. Besides what’s it to you, mind your own business or don’t go. And I speak my own language do you?
@babybonk609 ur the one crying around assuming people don’t know their language why don’t you take your own advice. Just another native with negative criticism and nothing to offer
What is the overall reasoning behind the beauty pageants? It appears to me to be a form of exploitation of the tribal women. I get the impression it has to do with the casino's and powwows as a way to make money for whoever is behind it. However much of it is made isn't trickling down to the tribes as a whole if some of the rez's are rich while others are poor. Sad to hear.
A feeling of belongs to organization are not playing their game games with their way of operation and more likely push too the side and the Black Sheep is the lndain way and it's in all kinds of people's are Nation within Nation and we still on this day road nothing new and it would be a call for awakening to all we❤

We need to stop lateral violence against each other. Us Natives (yes that means all of us) need to build each other up and stick together. ❤

Truthfully..navajo women do not get along. Even within the family, but around family, they hide it well. Narcissistic undertones not racist.

What exactly was said to you or done to you in that you felt threatened? Details are appreciated. Thank you for sharing.
Cj This occurs in the Native American pageantry? Yes speak out then! ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Probably because who’s gonna sit thru a presentation not knowing what was said then have to sit thru an interpretation after. Time issues. Duh.

What place do beauty pageants have in Indigenous culture? Doesn’t smell healthy to me
😮
Natiana is a beautiful person inside and out, she should be the leader of that organization. ❤
