The coolest thing I think about this game was that the studio that made mechanicus knew jackshit about 40k before they made the game. They pretty much applied for a license and picked the Mechanicus to make the game because they looked cool. They then acquired every bit of lore and rules they could find to try and make it feel right. The fact that they nailed the feel of 40k so perfectly is absolutely incredible. To go from 0 knowledge of the lire to a game that every Mechanicus player holds up as a must buy and endless source of memes and inspiration is what I think shows its a truly great game. They put a ton of work into it and it shows.
Hell the music is so good GW even uses it in promotional material for new models and books now.

What an amazing game. Every good review of this game hopefully puts it in more player's hands. I feel this is a niche game for many but it's well worth giving it a go. I'm one of the people that fall into the camp of listening to the soundtrack whenever I'm painting. I hope there are more follow ups to this game. This is a love letter to 40k, it makes the (very good) Dawn of War franchise look like a half-arsed adaptation by comparison.

I’ve never played anything Warhammer related, but always had an interest/curiosity in it, so I picked this up on a sale and I can definitely say that it’s a really good game. My only complaint is that it uses what I assume is a lot of Warhammer 40k verbiage and it all just keeps flying over my head. In the end, I think anyone can enjoy this game, but fans who are familiar with the lore will probably LOVE it.

@@PonchaYT True, the Emperor's identity is sometimes ambiguous and oftentimes we don't get to understand what he is or how he could know and do the things he did. He certainly benefited from making the Mechanicus believe he's Omnissiah, but the fact that there is (most likely) Void Dragon on Mars throws in an interesting spin. Maybe I'm a scrub or something, but I really appreciate the ability to standardize my techpriests. They are identical. I always deploy them with Skitarii rangers filling the holes, because rangers get a ranged Identify on any attack, a Silence you can use to trivialize any single big baddy (and the game never seems to deploy more than three big baddies at any one time), and at level 3, they always crit, meaning armor means nothing to them.
My Priests, meanwhile, are kitted out to take advantage of critical hits, both to trivialize armor, and to get rid of bodies asap so I don't have to dedicate actions, movement, and cooldowns to clearing them. Since I run crits and armor means nothing, I am free to use the Omnisiah Axe line for my whole party, giving me a free melee hit. I use an infested mechadendrite to control positioning, a level 3 cognition mechadendrite to fuel ridiculous length turns, the phosphor rifle for its free Identify and machine spirit bonus damage, the plasma pistol for its armor ignoring free ranged poke (useful for cleaning up bodies that didn't get crit), and body parts focused on energy shielding, health, and crit+. I ignore physical armor because anything that gets close is not lasting more than one turn with my free crit axe swings, +3 cogdrite, and ridiculous critical guns.
Also, I use a level 2 healing arm and a level one green damage bauble (I forget the name, it grants +3 movement, +2 damage, +15% crit). My boys are ridiculously good, really tanky at range, and can oneshot anything with 8 or less health pretty consistently.
Frankly, I think the tech tree could use a little rebalancing, because the first level of every discipline is just worth getting, and then hitting the second level lets you pick the best gear item for your build from each tree, and I haven't really felt the need to diversify my squad or level exclusively into one tree.
The only difficulty tweek I made was setting the room awakening to 1 pip instead of 2, which I felt was more fair. This makes computers *really* worth going after, because if enough spawn, then you can get away with missions awakening 0% of the planet. It's rare that I get 0%s, highly reliant on random room spawns granting me computers to destroy, but I average 2% awakening per mission.
For canticles, I use +9 cognition, +8 red damage, and +15 healing.

The number of bosses that spawn for the final boss are based on how many you've killed in the other parts of the planet.
Also, did you know about the secret boss? Try holding the spacebar to access the Noosphere while on the mission select screen.
Personally, I liked the game a lot. My only complaints are a bit of balance and polish. It's more of an AA game rather than AAA. For instance, there's no in game bestiary. So unless you remember every enemy does just from looking at them, good luck. Similarly there's no way to rewatch cutscenes where they do explain what new enemies do. Also weapons can lack some detail and balance. I had 2 heavy weapons that had different names but the same stats...or so I thought. Then I took them both into a mission and found out that one had an AoE so big it took up most of the map and was guaranteed to hit everything, including my entire team. The other one was smaller and had a less cool animation.
Also the self healing tool is the best tool because repairs cost money at the end of missions, hurting your build diversity.
