I believe Mate Rimac is the right man to take charge of Bugatti. Yes Rimac is for EV but this man has a vision for Bugatti that is still focusing on ICE engines
Running a business is not based only on the technical side of the product.
For me its strange, and I dont know if it reflects well on the companies that use His activities, because it looks a bit like they have no idea about EV production. But I wish Him the best.
@@jareknowak8712 "they have no idea about EV production."
Buddy where is your EV factory located? I want a tour!
If anyone knows how to make an EV, it's Volkswagen and their huge group, Bugatti doesn't need help from any external company, let alone from an RUclips comment.
If they want to make ICE cars until they're completely banned, they probably can.

@@davidaugustofc2574rimac knows more about electric cars than VW others wise why would they sell Bugatti to rimac and make tech partnerships for the whole VW group?
Bugatti Veyron in 2001 : We need special tires for 40.000 euro to make sure they dont explode when doing 400+ kmh
Auto Union in 1937 : Those bicycle tires will do the job
😂
to be fair, they were state of the art for 1937. I think back then, they still use tires made out of wood 😂
These were actually carefully designed special race and record tyres back in the day - just like today.
Just their dimensions are strange to us today .
@@BSport320 I'd expect nothing less
BRM made a high revving V16!
I’m excited to hear a 16 cylinder not hampered by turbos. My goodness it will sound glorious
The new Bugatti is simply fascinating! Will be interested to see what it looks like! V-16's FOREVER!
They had to switch to a naturally aspirated engine, with such a long crank shaft the torsional forces would be very powerful.
And thats good, I love N/A engines.
RIP Marcello Gandini
Surely they can make a turbocharged V16 work if they want to.
BRM made a V16 work in the 1950s. Cadillac made it work several decades prior. So did Auto Union and several other manufacturers.
All great cars are powered by a Cossie now haha. Awesome stuff and great video!
It's a good end for where we started
Looking very forward to this. Great Analysis as always
Cozzy kicking ass
the w8 did not serve as a basis for the w16.
The w8 is open to 72 degrees. The w16 is opened at 90 degrees
The dimensions of the cylinders are also different, long stroke for the Passat and square for the Bugatti
The w16 is not an assembly of two w8s
I'm sorry if it came across like this, that's not what I wanted to to say.
I meant it was their first W engine, so they had some experience with that.
But, like you said, they are entirely different.
“Based on this principle” “served as a role model” where does he say what you claim he said?
Don’t apologize because it really didn’t come off that way. Great video.
V12 7.2 from the 90s seems today like wet dream that is gone. I am glad its not over yet to push it to the limits
I am very pleased to see the NA V16, and I look forward to hearing it.
Prototype of the 1st engine for Veyron was made out of standard 4 cylinder blocks. 1 cylinder was cut off and 2 such blocks were EB welded together. Than 3 V6 motors were assembled together. This motor was put into the car presented at Geneva Auto Saloon. All the welding was done by ProBeam.
Hybrid is a good choice for Bugatti. They’re able to maintain the power they had with the Chiron and make it LOUD. Turbos are great for power but they’re also way too efficient at muffling an engine.
Loud just means you can't drive wherever you want. Nice sounding is far better.
I know why they chose cosworth, SupremEX 225 MMC
SupremEX 225 MMCs are an ideal high-performance replacement for conventional materials in powertrain components. They are 50% stronger than aluminum at high temperatures and, when used for pistons, they enable changes such as reduced crevice volume and lighter piston pins, which improve power while reducing fuel consumption. Engine components made of SupremEX MMCs have low-friction characteristics that result in reduced wear when running against other materials.
I was wondering how they were going to design this engine. Great explanation. Should be one of the greats. I wonder if it will be capable of passing Euro-6 limits but then again the rich will find some loophole I´m sure.
I was waiting for your analysis!!!
I've waited so long for this video
Another great video 💪🔥
Do you think you could do a video covering how the Taycan is so fast around laguna seca? It managed to lap faster than a GT2rs, a GT3, and other cars that on paper should be much faster than it, I was wondering if you had any insight into what makes it so fast?
You know what they say. Power sells cars, but torque wins races. BEVs have a huge advantage coming out of every corner.
@@unchartedexe I don’t even think that’s what it is, looking at the cornering speeds it’s barely behind most of these supercars despite its weight and lack of downforce, and it’s not THAT much quicker on the straights. Given it’s stats on paper, you’d except awful handling balanced by lots of torque and acceleration, but instead it’s below average handling balanced by good torque and acceleration. My question is why does a 5,000 pound car have handling comparable to supercars😭
Probably a combination of the Taycan's low CoG & lightyear advancements in tire & chassis control tech in the last several years
I can't wait for the car reveal, it's going to be awesome
Kind of disappointing they're not trying for 500kph. This seems like a bit of a mistake from a marketing perspective, but with a Cosworth V16 I'm sure the cars are all bought and paid for by now and no doubt Bugatti's new car is wildly profitable before anyone has even seen it.
This is the base model. There will be other versions.
@@BSport320 Do you think that this car and the zenvo Aurora are limited or not? And if so, how fast can they really go unlimited?
@@BSport320 Bugatti are out of the Top Speed race although they could change their minds.
Naturally aspirated 😍
Incredible
Imagine a Bugatti coupe or a four door saloon using this engine, front mounted, no hybridisation, just an NA V16 on the A8 platform, like they did with the Galibier 16C concept, something meant to be a super autobahn cruiser, inspired by the Type 57 Atlantic
Yo Koenigsegg, I'm happy for you (turbocharged Volvo V8) but Bugatti has one of the best engines of all time!
I thought Koenigsegg's V8 was based on a Ford V8.

The heads and blocks being modified doesn't make it OEM. Plank.
If i am right, it is an exhange of 4 turbos for hybrid system. I am wondering, which is the difference in weight? Chiron weighs 2 tons. Hybrid system means more weight. So, if the car is expected to weigh 2 tons, the difference will be from the motor. So, these extra 4 turbos are so heavy that they overcome the height of hybrid system? Makes no sense to me
@@delusion2987 i suppose that the weight of a radiator is not so significant ..thanks for your answer
I hope one day experience Cosworth used on v12 and v16 NA GDI high revving engines can be transferred one day if a customer is willing to trade size for more efficiency, cuz it is still a transferrable application. Maybe one day there will still be high revving engine, albeit in even smaller package, like high-revving 2.0L inline-4 turbo for hot hatch and small sports cars, and even up to 120-deg v6 turbo and even over square flat-plane v8 hot-v turbos, still great power with similar hybrid design with Rimac-supplied KERS and battery, while still meeting latest emission standards like China 6b and EPA Tier 3 bin 20
Less weight is a great idea.
Normal engineer: an inline-6 is perfectly balanced
German guy: nah, could be better
A 2 meter long drivetrain. It’s not actually an engine, for anyone who’s seen the old McLaren Tooned videos. They just put Mika Hakkinen inside the car.
8.3? Damn
Just like Dodge Viper with stroker.

How much cooler would that engine be with four turbos and the hybrid system? They should be shooting for three thousand horsepower.
The channel Engineering Explained demonstrate that the V16 is composed two flat-plane crank V8s... How does that correlates with the V12s, Mr. BSport?
Of course you need a different crankshaft design for a V16 compared to a V12.
Imagine how much cooler it would be if they didn't add any of the electric crap (which isn't green or environmentally friendly in the first place).
A 2000kg car at 440km/h has the same kinetic energy as a 50 ton lorry at 90km/h. But you can drive it with a regular license. Make it make sense.
Most of the time you won't be driving it at 440km/h, while a truck is driven at 80~90km/h regularly. Not to mention that a 2t car is still small and easy to drive 99% of the time.
W16 Ferdinand Piech
If Cosworth is making that engine you’re lucky if it makes 900 on a dyno,
Ignorant comment.
Tell Aston Martin.
W16
Add 2 871 gmc blowers and 8 turbos and nitrous.
It should be n/a V16 for Veyron too from the beginning
Is there a performance benefit of a 90° V16, like more space for the intake especially for a Naturally Asperated engine vs a 45° V16 ???????? ????????
@Martin, VW did not designed the W16 of the Veyron engine but AVL and Schrick did. VW did not have the knowledge to do so.
Prove it.
Yooo why did they go NA?? Imagine if they kept it turbocharged! 1600 hp and 800 electric hp!! That's 2400 hp! Just imagine!! It would've a crazy crazy car. It would've revolutionized everything just like the Veyron did in 2005!
2:22 Later when Piech was Natzi :D
Just build a lighter, all motor version too
1100 hp 8.4 liter - N/A V16 engine that revs to 10k rpm and no electric motors and a power to weight of 1 to 1.
they can maybe do this if they make a track only version that does not have to follow any rules.
that would be the dream for all car guys.
just imagine that sound coming out of an unrestricted titanium exhaust...
Why only LHD ? Such a same. One third of countries drive on the left.I can't own a LHD car in my country.😢
1800hp and no turbos?? noo this cant be right lol
It's hybrid
@hugo-pg5tv Your bloody right it is. Brand new OEM not some cast off.
is it me or does this not sound like a successor or more like a I phone 12 and I phone 13 same outputs just different
Isn't that the same engine the devel 16 was planning to use a v16 😅

I think if this new generation of Bugatti, is NOT delivered in FRANCE, you will have a hard time trying to selling it at $5M a copy from non-motoring Croatia...Le Mans.........🤑
