Thanks for watching and commenting. Yep, I agree. The guy I was trying to copy ( Luke Towan) did a great job with putting some weeds down the middle of the road. I simply forgot or ran out of energy, maybe both. Please keep watching and commenting, I need all the input I can get...Anthony
Thank you, very appreciated. I would not have known where to start without the RUclips community. I hope to have more to share over the weekend...Anthony
GREAT STUFF But as I have found and as you can see in my videos. GO THE STATIC GRASS APPLICATOR You will never regret it. Excellent result Im about to model a T SCALE section within my OO layout so drawing inspiration on how to take things down to a smaller size. yes Luke Towan is a fellow Queenslander here in Australia and hes is a great inspiration.
Thank you for watching and commenting. I hope to get back at it next week. Thinking of working on a 1 X 2 diorama next, using it to polish my skills at modeling a body of water and using static grass - two things I haven’t tried. I’ll probably split it over two or three videos...Anthony
Looking Good, a few telephone poles, bushes , trees and weeds , will definitely make it eye catching. Love what You did here . Gave me a great starting point to my little layout. Thank You for sharing, found it very informative and greatly like the outcome.
Thanks, work has kept me away from working on the layout lately. I hope to get something posted next week. Thanks for watching and commenting...Anthony
Thank you for watching and commenting. I think I may try using some strips of extruded foam instead of cork when I add the roads to the campground. I purchased a hot wire cutter and should be able to give it a try.
Thank you Vinny, that means a lot. Hope your doing well, it’s getting hard to keep up with all the channels I’m interested in following, and even tougher to keep up with those following me. Don’t know how you find time to watch and support all the channels you do. Thanks again...Anthony
Thank you so much. I wish I had the time to work (practice) with you and others, I could learn a lot, but better still get to know everybody. But at least we have RUclips that allows for a vertical community...Anthony
Hey it's looking really good. I'm finally getting ready to start my own. Getting rolling stock and trying to figure out a plan. Things like this are giving me some confidence.
This was really interesting and fun to watch. Your first adventure in to scenery turned out very nice, and the steps you took to achieve that look gave me some insight on how to use these same methods when the time come for scenery on my layout. Thank you very much for sharing! D. Muse
Thanks, my hope is that my work, good or bad, can be both interesting/entertaining and helpful. My goal is to post a new video every week, but that’s turned out to be more challenging than I thought...Anthony
Your finished product looks great. Like William said, a few more details on and around the road would take it to the next level, but this is a great result. One of the things I would have liked to see was a side-by-side of the grass mat next to the other technique.
Thanks! I agree a side by side was in order. I made even have filmed this, but my challenge to get several hours of video into six or seven minutes had me editing the heck out of it, and I likely missed some useful shots because of my haste. My video creation skills are even more beginner than my modeling skills. Question for you- am I being overly concerned about keeping my videos short, or would 10 or 15 minuets be ok?
The "ideal" video length is SO subjective that I hesitate to answer. I can only speak from my point of view and I don't presume in any way to channel the preferences of anyone else. That being said- I prefer videos that are less than 10 minutes long, but I wont shy away from something that's around the 15 minute mark. When I see content that interests me, I'll look through someone's channel vids for stuff that's under 5 minutes. I'll usually pass on longer videos unless the subject matter or the creator are of great interest to me. If you're going to make longer videos- write a script and keep the energy up. Again, this is my opinion only.
Thanks, I tried my best to replicate what Luke did in his video. He is so good, I wish he would up his production schedule. He uses diluted Mod Podge, but I can’t seem to get it to work with my spray bottles. Thanks for watching...Anthony
I think your finished product is quite pleasing. I'm especially interested in how the Heki grass mat product worked out. I'm in much the same boat as you as being a beginner.
Thanks for jumping in. I think the grass mat worked pretty well, I’m still not sure that is the direction I will go, I recently started experimenting with static grass. Hope to get more videos posted starting the first half of December...Anthony
Nice work! I use a static grass applicator that I fabricobbled together out of PVC pipe and a negative ion generator. I may have overdone it with the voltage produced (I think it is something like 20,000 volts). One day after finishing an application I went to clean out the unused grass and forgot to bleed off the residual charge. I got a nasty shock on my finger and made a sound that I couldnt replicate if I tried. Now I'm worried about getting shocked every time I use it. Moral of my story is to just buy an applicator if you go that route, it's not worth risking your health for some model grass.
LOL, I tend to agree with that philosophy. Past experiences with electricity has me pretty gun shy. Thanks for watching and commenting, one of the best part of posting videos is the interaction with viewers...Anthony
your video has lots of tips in it for doing scenery. how did you like the results of the grass mats? i took mine and shook them out and then used that in the static grass applicator i made.. works good that way also. thanks for sharing.
I liked it, but it’s not exactly what I was hoping for. I saw a video on its use with the modeler stretching it out making it “thinner”, les full. When I tried I ended up ripping it. Thanks for watching and commenting. And thanks for your help growing my channel.
BFU Railroad I agree. Thanks for commenting, I need to get back to working on my layout soon, before I forget all the lessons learned working on these smaller projects and dioramas. Too bad I have to work to support my family. Take care...Anthony
You know you really don't have to work to support your family if you enjoy what you do for a living. And I'm at a point on my layout where I'm ready to attempt a gravel road across the rails leading to switch controllers I buried into the ground. I only use sawdust for groundcover so I'm watching other people to get idears.
About all you need to add to the road is a few random weeds along the sdges and a few down the center.
Great work!!!!

I have no suggestions or criticisms. I never attempted anything like this. It was a learning experience for me. Great video.

I agree with other comments to just keep on modeling and paying attention to the finer details. It's looking great👍

I can’t wait to see the layouts finished progress.

Thank you, very appreciated. Love to get feedback good or bad, but definitely better to get a comment like yours...Anthony
They only thing I think you need to do is "practice", you can come "practice" on the RVRR, LOL. Awesome work!!!! Chuck RVRR

I like that look very much. I am hoping I have space for a service road.

Nicely done
From one Anthony to another, thank you! Having fun and trying to copy the good work of others.
Good tutorial!

It turned out good man. I like it brother!
Thanks!
There sure is a lot of experimentation into building an N Scale layout. I’ll need to keep it all in mind when I get to building my N scale layout.
You can make your own static grass applicator out of an electric fly swatter. It's simple and easy! !
Thanks for jumping in. I watched Sparky last Wednesday, he made it look easy but even battery powered devices could be out of my league...Anthony

How wide do I make a n scale gravel road?
Thanks for subscibing to my channel , I have returned the favour , your scenic ideas are very interesting !
Not Baaad! Needs some moss to simulate overgrowth.
BFU Railroad I agree. Thanks for commenting, I need to get back to working on my layout soon, before I forget all the lessons learned working on these smaller projects and dioramas. Too bad I have to work to support my family. Take care...Anthony
