Every time I watch your channel I am amazed at the might of the American farming trade!!! People tell me there are going to be food shortages, I just laugh, and tell them when you see McDonald's close it's doors for lack of food, then you might see problems. This nation, and its farmer's backed by the power of the Federal Reserve and State Governments will turn it on and produce more food then people can imagine. Never think for a moment America's farmer's can't get it done when need be!!! Any body watching this video can see the mighty power America's farming community yields!! Feeding America and the World!!! Thank You American Farmer!!!

Back in the '60's we raised hard red winter wheat in the Panhandle of Texas. We raised both irrigated and "dryland" wheat -- irrigated yield was 45-60 bu/A most years, dryland about 15 bu/A. (There was one year we got 100 bu/A irrigated and 60 bu/A from dryland. Took forever to get crop cut but we didn't mind at all ;) We also had a year when we got 3 bu/A because a hot dry wind hit on the wrong day and dried out the crop before it could fill )
At the peak of our operation we had three John Deere 95 combines, a "Big 12" grain cart behind a JD 4020 and three single axle grain trucks. Elevators where we dumped the wheat were never further than 7 miles away and we kept the trucks moving.
As the operation wound down we would still have 1000 acres of wheat to cut but I did it myself with a New Holland 1440 (JD 95 clone) with a 20' platform. Dad would service the combine in the morning and get it ready to go and I'd take over about 9 11am and start cutting. Dad knew how long it would take me to fill all three trucks and he'd come by and unload them and I'd keep filling them.
The elevators closed about midnight. They'd turn their lights off to signal we had a half hour to unload before they closed so I'd empty all the trucks and keep cutting until they were full, usually about 2 am and I'd head home for a shower and get ready for another day. Yeah, long day but we had to beat the thunderstorms.

We use an axial flow 1620 to harvest winter wheat which is about 2 weeks away here in central Ohio. We also a classic Grain o vator grain cart pulled by depending on the day either the 1947 Oliver 88 Standard,1965 Farmall 460 or 1984 White 2-75. For grain truck wise we use 06 Chevy 3500 dually on a goose neck trailer and depending on the year the 1968 International grain truck as well. We also use a J and M grain wagon 300 bushel from the 1980s pulled with the 2002 New Holland TS100. We clip the straw stubble with a John Deere 50 sickle mower pulled with an 1974 Oliver 1365 and 1956 John Deere 50 on the New Holland rake.

These Kinze grain carts are something else. I know there's seven awesome giant combines in the same field, but those grain carts are the fulcrum of the whole operation. And the abuse they withstand and shrug off, year after year, is impressive. Is there a market for straw where you are? I wonder at what points the tradeoffs between baling the straw vs. chopping it vs. leaving it as covering mulch (next crop permitting) are. While I'm an economist, I have zero clue about agronomics like this. And, not to forget, thank you for another outstanding video! Cheers :)

The crop too is a sizable position, both in initial seed investment and care expenses as well as plain capital sitting out in the open. Farmers must have a lot of faith in the public not to mess with it or it'd get real expensive real quick.

I don't get into the farming areas so to much and when I do see them in a field they are so far away it is hard to get a good perspective on how big they are. Thank you for the great videos.

It takes a powerful tractor to pull a cart with 66,000 pounds of wheat in it. The total of the cart and the wheat has got to be 80,000 pounds not to even consider the weight of the tractor which is probably 40,000 pounds so it takes serious tillage to loosen the compaction caused by the combines and the tractors and grain carts.

I started a 12 year old driving a MF 585 with a 15" front and being happy if I could see the grain over the top of the field bin. To operating a NH CR9.60 with a 40" front. If I did not get 5 truck loads a day I was not happy. Dad and I worked alone. He would cart the grain to town and I try to have more the a load when he got back so he had loads to cart in the morning before I could start. We just had an old mother bin. no chasers. I drought many people could even chase me any way. I did around 15kmh and never stopped all day. I covered around 200ac with the machine on a good day. If I was still farming though we would have to go to a bigger front and slow down. The new machines don't like the seed. The hydrostatic drive is not big enough and over heats. I had trouble with the last machine dad got.

Matt is doing well. Producing a Matt video takes some extra time. I have Matt planting corn and Matt spraying and now he is in wheat. Making a video almost everyday makes it hard to get the more involved videos done. There will be a Matt marathon of videos soon. I am working on the X9 which will have a slightly different designation than just X9. It will be introduced on Monday by John Deere at 8:30 am.

The reason for the fleet here is to cut as much wheat as possible per day because soybeans are planted right behind the combine. They want as many good growing days for the soybeans as possible. With tough green straw the combines run around 3 mph in 100 bu wheat.
