There's just something about Mario's music, where even the pieces I don't necessarily know sound like I've known them forever, because the composers know exactly what Mario music should sound like, while still being creative.

You could probably remake this list without repeating any games from this version, barring maybe a couple of the pre-NES years, and still get an impressive collection of songs. Nice medley, and some really interesting choices trying to spread things around and show off different franchises some.
A Link to the Past is where a lot of staple Zelda music was introduced, including the chosen Fairy Fountain music, which is arguably played more frequently than Zelda’s theme because it also serves as the File Select music for games until BotW. Not saying that Zelda’s theme wouldn’t have been a suitable choice to represent ALttP, just wanted to also stand behind what was chosen. ALttP set the standard and themes for what followed, not many people give it enough credit, so many overlook it for Ocarina of Time, when OoT was basically ALttP 3D lol

Only 1 theme per year, and samus's theme is the most iconic one of Metroid. I can't think of another unique theme for Metroid that didn't lose to another game in the year it came out.
