- Martin cast as the presenter of a very 'TimeTeam'esque sketch from the short-lived, one-series-only sketch show 'Bruiser' (2000) starring Olivia Colman, Martin Freeman, Matt Holness, Charlotte Hudson, David Mitchell and Robert Webb.
"Let's go!" paws Those lilywhite legs in those teeny shorts. D: I need that like burning. Srsly.
All clips are from episode 6
*Edit: Please excuse the "Subtitle Text Here". :| My software stinks. I'm not going through that kerfluffle again. It took THREE HOURS for this to upload. Is that just me, or is it the same for everybody? That's INSANE.
'It's under, so it's older, that's the rule'
I had a two-hour lecture on stratigraphy that basically told me this
Yea unless folding's overturned the rock layers probably doesn't apply to dirt though
FRED PUT YOUR TEA DOWN I'M HOLDING THE PAST HERE
Best line 🤣
A line worthy of Chris Morris. (Though I guess in that case it would be "Fred put your tea down I'm holding the news here").
@@hughjones4049 I was also thinking this would be something you'd hear/see in The Day Today, possibly involving Chris and the world's greatest reporter, Peter O'hanraha-hanrahan.
This is a cross section of the comments section. See the replies at the bottom? That's now, you can get that anywhere, that's not interesting. But above those replies, above the now, it looks like there is something posted there. It looks like I've found something. I think I've found something! It looks like some sort of witty comment. Fred...Fred, put your tea down I'm holding the past in my hand!
Brilliant. What a coincidence that he mentioned such sites were covered up by car parks and a few years later they found Richard III under a car park. And now he's playing Richard III.
i know this comment is 4 years old, but what do you mean by "And now he's playing Richard III."?
www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/theatre/11103044/Martin-Freeman-playing-Richard-III-has-done-me-in.html This might help
@@lukerobson609 so not Tony Robinson then... :(
Elisabeth Bossler Further..Benedict Cumberbatch also played Richard III and Benedict is actually related to Richard III and read at his reburial service. And both Martin and Benedict have been in movies together
Victricia Turkson you are probably related to Richard the third as am I. Considering there were a lot less people then and that for centuries families have intermingled then your chance of being related to someone that far back is pretty high.
Some bastard came along, saw a Bronze Age settlement and covered it up with Coventry?
Yep :P
@@SuperMadman41 I DONT FACKING BELIEVE THIS
swear this sounds straight from hitchhikers
Screaming Horse ye ye still
"You mean some bastard came along, saw a bronze age settlement and covered it up with Coventry? I don't fucking believe this!"
I know it's taking the piss, but I'd be lying if I said I never felt the same whilst studying archaeology.
KEEP DIGGING
Same!
Fucking Cov. it has a lot to answer for!
They fucking nailed the energy of Tony Robinson and the filming style so excellently
Totally!! "And what's so exciting!" ...he nailed it there
Archeologists have just discovered the oldest known tampon. They just don't know what period it's from.
Brilliant
That's what she said
Sick burn!
gross
@@TheJovialBrit I hope we can all laugh at what a douche this guy is.
bilbo is very serious about his gardening
You mean Tim from the Office?
I laughed, until I saw how old this comment is. Then I saw The Hobbit release date... but the rock is older still
I worked on a dig in York in the 70's. We dug up carparks. Going down through the layers was exciting. Ultimately got to the Roman fortress and colonia. This skit put me back there ~ nice!
An accurate representation of time team
And Arch as a subject.
@@thomasalvarez6456 Archeology?
@@BumMcFluff Yes
no!
Yup
Martin Freeman is such a great actor
This is exactly how excited scientists get when talking about their fields.
But is it a really old field buried under other fields and rocks?
As an archaeologist, who never seems to share the same enthusiasm as other archaeologists. This speaks to me.
put your tea down I'm holding the past in my hand
To be fair, they found a king’s skeleton under a car park.
This is a Tom Scott video with Matt Smith Doctor energy and my new favorite video
Tom Scott if he found and unknowingly ingested drugs
Didn't notice the similarity to Matt Smith before, but god you are right.
When your enthusiasm for a subject completely outstrips your actual understanding of it.
Went from goofy parody to genuine existential crisis so fast...
That pretty much sums up my typical conversations with other people on any given day; it has been like that for practically my entire life. Yeah, I'm seriously messed up.
This is Bilbo desperately trying to relive the adventure he went on
I'd watch any science programme with him as the presenter - he's just so excited about EVERYTHING! "It's a bit of rock, it's a stone but it's definitely older than the grass!" XD
I’ve done an archaeological dig before and this feels so real. It hurts
Them shorts.. That vest...
If you have never seen Time Team, go watch an episode or two of that and then come back and watch this.
a reasonably funny jab at Time Team. Ever notice on Time Team that there always seem to be people randomly sweeping holes with trowels and brushes and some finds look to have already been dug from the ground prior to the filming...
>put museum artifact on surface
>sprinkle sand over artifact
>stand ready with brush
"ACTION!"
I hate it when people just turn up and cover stuff in Coventry... makes me sick!!
"This may have been an immensely old field."
"OI!, Don't bring me into this!"
watching martin in this shit is the reason why i’m breathing. it’s time for a bruiser marathon when i get home. oh hell yes, i’m ready
Having just binge watched a bunch of Time Team, this was even better than expected.
1:50
Suddenly I understand people's idea of Martin being a hedgehog xD
"Put the tea down I'm holding the past in my hand!"
I love his erratic enthusiasm for archaeology. Love time team
My god this is so accurate. That performance, brilliant
"Some bastard came along, saw a bronce age settlement and covered it up with *Coventry?* I don't FUCKING believe this!"
Bilbo Baggin's coming back as an archaeologist, and re-discovering Bag End. Mind blowing shit
That stuff on the top, that's grass, thats now, you can get that anywhere!
Martin is excellent as a presenter
"Are we gonna find a bronze age village today?"
Omg I can't believe I just found the new episode of Time Team great stuff
I've never seen Martin's early TV shows before, brilliant!
Grew up watching time team this brings back memories 🤣
Fred, put your tea down, I'm holding the past in my hand
I think this is maybe my favorite sketch ever
oh god the shorts and the vest kill me every time I watch this, as if the skit wasn't already funny enough :D
“And underneath all of that is the first Hobbit Hole that I would be starring in.”
Every time team episode ever!
This Detectorists prequel is phenomenal
He’s like The Doctor, he’s so excited.
I just love how he sprints to and from the camera lmfao! BRING THAT ENERGY!!
"perhaps a rude arrowhead" I'm dying.
Why was this a short lived series! It's awesome!
It was too funny for the BBC.
Can't believe they'd do Time Team dirty like that. BOO! :)))
I worked on excavating an old roman fort as part of work experience once, it's very much like this!
They nailed Time Team here.
Brit: grass, not interesting
Also brits: forming cults around lawns.
What lawn cult so you speak of?
@@harrymears1623 I think Americans are more into lawns, tbh.
@@hughjones4049 how do I join the lawn cult?
I live in Coventry - that scence made me cry of laughter!
Tony Robinson entered the chat...
Excellent acting!
Good Tony Robinson impression
The last part of the sketch reminds me of the French waiter part of Monty Python's meaning of life.
As an archaeologist, I'm just looking at those shameful excavation units and shaking my head. It's all strung up the right way but the walls should be even with the string. I mean, look at the image at 1:05; the left hand wall looks terrible! Sloppy, sloppy work. And there's no excuse, they're digging in a field! I can excuse a crappy looking unit when you're weaving around trees, but keeping the trench neat should be child's play.
Kidding of course. I like this sketch.
But seriously, those walls are dreadful.
welcome to the cold hard science of archaeology
Zachary Fischer and then he just grabs a random bit of rock from what seems to be intended to represent a stratigraphic profile...
@@JasperJanssen Ikr. Great way to destroy provenience of an artifact if it had been one
@@JasperJanssen i mean that's the joke
“I don’t facking believe this”
This is what Tony Robinson did to Time Team when he became one of the Producers. The knob.
Martin looks good in short shorts.
I find this video hilarious, can watch it over and over again... God, Martin you are charming! :D
Very Monty Python-esque, especially from 1:00.
He reminds me of Michael Palin in that part and the other guys depressing voice fits in well!
I love his excitement
the steve Irwin of archeology
they dont usually swim backwards :'(
I think I figured out where Cracked got their inspiration for their marvels of the science series...
I was thinking the same thing
This mans just taken 7 pingers and gone out with a spade and dug up half a field
He's shaking that's how excited he is
Brilliant. I knew you were a good comedy actor Sir Martin but that was 'kin hilarious!
This is great. The only part they missed is discovering two slightly different colours of soil next to each other, conclusively proving that it was once the site of the most significant Roman fort in Europe.
"KEEP UP!"
9 years. Jeez...
Anyways, that bit is epic, bilbo is scary
I felt like this when I found out that the ancient city of troy was actually discovered by an idiot who dug too deep looking for the right era, while in the process destroyed the layers of the city that the the trojan war was fought at.
Points to a single square centimetre- this was the sleeping quarters.
Some bastard came along and saw a bronze age civilization and covered it up in Coventry!?😂😂
oh my..that s some tight trousers he s wearing there...
Lmao Martin’s tight shorts. And his aditude.
Brilliant! Subtitle text here.
Archeology in a nutshell, presented by Martin Freeman. Epic.
I wonder if they dug that out specially, or it was something already being done? And imagine if they had actually found something whilst filming it!
Welcome to Time Team!
So true. It’s almost all conjecture, assumption & guesswork.
Do you have “a cunning plan”, Mr Robinson & Co., in light of this?
That's a rock
1:22 A rude arrowhead 😂
Literally Time Team summed up in 3 minutes 😂
This is legally archaeology
Tony Robinson played to perfection
FREEMAN'S SHORT
OH, MY STARS
This is painfully accurate
Thanks George, lol.
There's a time lord somewhere pointing and laughing at this
I like to think that this sketch isn''t scripted.
The evolution of Tony Robinson to Jonathan Pie.
How long before he finds Arthur dent's towel ;-)
“a rude arrow head”
Martin freeman reacting as Tony Robinson in Time Team
2:15 he hit the fucken dab mate. That's real archaeology
