      Annoying, but realistic. Lorelai didn't know how to be a good parent. Emily and Richard were too rigid and critical and used manipulation and gaslighting tactics. Lorelai gave Rory the space and freedom she never had as a child, but still picked up toxic traits from her parents. That's often how families are.

    I'm with Rory on this one and this is one episode that's really hard to watch just because of how annoying and immature Lorelai was being. Yes, she is the parent, but she's not acting like one. She's acting like a stubborn child. If she really didn't want her mom's help then she should've accepted Luke's loan offer, but she was too prideful to even accept that. No, her big, adult plan was to just harass banks in the hopes that she'll wear them down and while she's doing this, she's waking Rory and Sookie up in the middle of the night to accommodate her freak outs about the termite problem she's too stubborn to get help for. This is not the behavior of an adult and I don't think Rory should've had to apologize for doing what Lorelai refused to do: ask for help.

    • @ggd1804
      @ggd1804 3 года назад +21

      I don't think so. Lorelai had proved many many times to be able to take care of her life and Rory's life. She deserved rispect and time to fix, and, in the worst case, sooner or later she obviously had to realize that she needs help, only at this point she would. Instead Rory, the children, wanted to help to fix it, and broke her words becouse of her fear.

    • @Cassandra765
      @Cassandra765 3 года назад +34

      @@ggd1804 Adults don't wake their children up in the middle of the night to ease their fears about termites eating their house, only adding fuel the said child's fears (She even had to get thrown out of Rory's room like a petulant 6 year old). Adults don't freak their child out so bad that they're fleeing to Sookie's house in the middle of the night for fear of termites chewing up their home. Adults most definitely do not wait in until the "the worst case" to ask for help, leaving their child in fear (a fear that they, the ADULT, burdened the child with) of losing their home simply because the adult is too petulant and stubborn to just shove her pride aside. Lorelai was not acting like an adult or a parent here. Her daughter had to step up and be the adult here and Lorelai's just pissy about it because of her petty feud with her mother, which again, she wouldn't have even had to worry about if she had just accepted Luke's offer.

      Rory should have respected Lorelai’s wishes and instructions and not said anything to Emily, but I also don’t think that she deserves too much criticism for this.
      She was scared and worried for both of them and didn’t do this out of spite or nastiness. Plus most of the time her mom and her acted like best friends, so I can understand that the lines could sometimes get blurred, especially for a 17 year old, and that the whole ‘mom says daughter does’ mantra would become more difficult to follow.

    I think the white slavery joke was suppose to be nod to how the situation is comparable to marrying off a daughter in order to pay a debt, or for a family to keep their house (by marrying rich or maybe like in Jane Austen times some long lost male relative is to inherit and the family can only hold the house if he marries a daughter). its like Rory is pushing to get married to protect her mother (a Rory thing to do) and Lorelei getting mad at Rory for pushing the loan when she didn't want her to, is like your parents marrying you off when you dont want to be married (a very Lorelei thing to do)

    I love Emily too. There seems to be a flaw in the whole GILMORE GIRLS show. Just watch the episodes of Emily and Richard.. There is nothing they wouldnt do for Lorelei and Rory. They truly love their daughter. The episode where Emily and Richard are talking with Francine and Stroab and they both tell Richard and Emily to have Lorelei get rid of the child. Emily like a mother lion says "NO" because I said so and you can tell with Emily's body language that was a period. No further discussion would be tolerated. Emily may be difficult be she wants her daughter and Rory in her life (so does. Richard) and Emily does overstep but its well-meaning and out of love. Yet Lorelei constantly pushes them away. I get that she was hurt. I get that Richard and Emily were hurt. YET THE KICKER IS WHY IS THERE NO ONE IN THE GILMORE FAMILY THAT CAN SAY THE SIMPLE WORDS "I LOVE YOU!" DO YOU KNOW HOW FAR THAT WOULD GO TO HEAL IF SOMEONE JUST SAID IT. RORY DOESNT EVEN SAY IT. You know everyone complains about their own "Emily" in the family but there are times in Emily's sphere of influence (her social circle) where only Emily can take on the Huntsburgers and the Haydens and the others when it calls for it. Why is "I LOVE YOU" SO DARN HARD FOR THEM! Even when Richard was dying, tears and sadness, but the words I love you were felt but no one said I love you. BUT THEN I REMEMBER MY FATHER DYING AND MY SISTERS TELLING MY FATHER TO TELL MY MOTHER HE LOVED HER. MY FATHER IN HIS USUAL WAY SAID..."WHY? I DIDNT DO ANYTHING WRONG. SHE KNOWS IT" You can say that Richard and Emily's generation showed their love by their deeds and actions but there is no reason why Rory and Lorelei cannot say it...and frankly...I watch the episodes sometimes and I truly want to slap Rory and Lorelei in the face as hard as I could...you can acknowledge that your mother is over-stepping but you can also reassure her that you understand she is doing it out of love and you love her for it. Maybe if Emily got just a little piece of the Mother-Daughter relationship that Lorelei and Rory have then Emily might relax and stop trying to fix Lorelei.

    i am actually with lorelai on this one, sure she can go to her parents asking for money like she did when she needed money so Rory could go to Chilton, but there is a huge difference one is asking your parents to help finance the education of their grand child, the other one is asking your parents for money so you can have a roof over your head (or better save the roof you have), which makes you as an adult much more dependent to your parents, i can understand why lorelai is frowning upon that, Rory didn't understand that asking your parents for money comes usually with a price, varying on what you need the money for.

    • @10293
      @10293 Год назад +1

      And Lorelei would’ve had a ton of fun with her principles about not asking for aid when the roof collapsed on their head and killed them because she couldn’t get any money to fix the house and refused to go to her parents for it. Not wanting to depend on your parents when you are an adult it’s fine and is actually better however, jeopardizing the place where you and your child live is blatantly irresponsible and we shouldn’t be championing her for that.

    1:35 I think Richard was leaving things at his office in a way that would stoke controversy and drama, in the hopes that it would make Jason/Digger get in a fight with his father and leave the company, then with nowhere to turn, Jason would go to his old family business connection, Richard, who would be reliable (ha) and would burn his father the most as Richard was the CEO's 2nd in command. Wouldn't be that hard for Richard to act paternal in his goodbye in a way that would make Jason more entitled with his father, and then when leavings fathers company, return to Richards paternal presence

    Rory had no business to tell Emily what is going on regarding the house. Lorelai is the adult, the mom and when she said that she will do whatever it takes to keep their house from falling down, she will do it because she's the mom. That's her job, Rory had no evidence to doubt Lorelai's word. Did she fear of losing her house? Yes. Did she think that Emily & Richard will step in without a second thought? Yes. But did she have the right to ask? No. Lorelai had her reasons to not go to her parents first. Were they stupid, stubborn and prideful? Yes. Would she have eventually gone to her parents if all other options were closed to her like Rory's school fund options? I believe so. Bottom line Rory had no right to step in.
