The Cranberries said this song was inspired by the IRA bombing in Warrington, Cheshire, England on March 20, 1993. Two innocent children were killed. The IRA was determined to remove British troops from Northern Ireland. The Cranberries' lead singer Dolores O'Riordan claimed that "Zombie" speaks about "the Irish fight for independence that seems to last forever." The lyrics even say, "It's the same old theme since 1916." They said they wrote "Zombie" to be a "song for peace -- peace regarding England and Ireland."
The Cranberries performed the song, live, at Woodstock '94 a month before the single was released.
On August 31, 1994, just a few weeks after the song was released, the IRA declared a ceasefire after 25 years of conflict, which evidently led some people to wonder if the IRA was willing to call a truce to make sure the group didn't release any more songs about them.
The metal band Bad Wolves released their cover of the song on January 19, 2018. The band claimed that Dolores O'Riordan was scheduled to have recorded vocals on the track...the day she died...four days earlier.
The Bad Wolves version changed a few lyrics -- mentioning drones among the devices for killing, and altering the line, "It's the same old theme since 1916" to "It's the same old theme in 2018."
Dan released HIS cover of the song on June 17, 2018 -- just five months after Bad Wolves released THEIR version. That kept it current, and Dan didn't have to change the date that had been "upped" from 2016 by Bad Wolves.

There's more to the story, but the bits and pieces here, let us know that Dan is definitely not too young to know the song, since he was born in October 1989. He would have been about 4-1/2 years old when the Warrington bombing incident occurred, and not yet six years old when the Cranberries released the song in the first place.
When the January 2018 cover by Bad Wolves was released, he was a couple of months into his 28th year. By that time, he would have already been quite familiar with the song, and was a seasoned veteran of grabbing the baton, and re-introducing the messages contained by songs such as this one, to today's public -- in his very own, inimitable { incapable of being imitated or copied; surpassing imitation; matchless} way.

In January 2019, the first official notice was published, of the worldwide "threat" that triggered all sorts of "intentional junk," as we now know. On August 30, 2020, Dan covered another message, in that regard: "PANDEMIC - Accept cover". [Rapha Lamim is the guitarist in that one. He's Dan's family friend who passed away this year -- 2024.]

Also, there's the fact that Dan was born, raised, and still lives in Brazil. A lot of the things that Ireland has been through since WAY back before 1993, have also existed in one way or another, in Dan's country of birth (for many, many years). Plus, the country that Dan's dad admired so greatly -- the U.S.A. -- (he passed that admiration down to his sons) began to be recognizably unraveled by some of the same attitudes, ways, and means.

Dan Vasc: August 19, 2022 -- H.E.A.T Cover with ERIK GRÖNWALL - "Breaking The Silence"
Erik (from Sweden) wrote that song for, and sang that song with H.E.A.T.
I checked to see if you've reacted to it, but you haven't. You might want to. 😀

On July 9, 2023, on Instagram, Dan posted a graphic photo as his intro for his post, with the following quote: "What John Rambo did to child traffickers in Last Blood is one of the ultimate dream fantasies of most adult males living in the West. To the traditional entertainment news media industry, an unfriendly reminder."
That was posted five days after a certain movie I dare not name here, hit the theatres...direct confirmation about Dan's "messaging" instinct. Dan is a TRUE BARD.

It was reported that at the time of her death, she was planning to collaborate with Bad Wolves on a remake of Zombie. After her death, the Bad Wolves considered covering the song but, at first decided not to but later decided to go ahead with it.

Dan is singing this song with anger as it should be. It is senseless to kill people over your own problems, especially when children are innocent victims. He changed the date in this song to show that these violent acts are still being committed to this day. Heartbreaking😢😢😢😢😢😢

Very good job but somehow artificial. Too much pathos. Far from Dolores' performance 🫤
